There is not one thing here I’ve had that I didn’t love. Boudin balls are the best I’ve EVER had! Shrimp poboy is incredible.

Found Leonard’s on Unilocal and decided to give it a try on our road trip from Austin, Texas to New Orleans. The lady at the counter was nice and helpful, she showed us the electronic menu on the wall and it displays an «*» next the meals that are the most popular, that was helpful in our choice. We decided on the chicken fried steak with potatos and vegetables, great choice for a meal and super large portion and at a reasonable price! The taste was southern home cooking, the good was hot and fresh. This is southern casual dining, so come as you are and just expect to get a great meal!

I had the seafood platter as recommended by the young lady at the counter. It consisted of a fried catfish fillet, 4 fried shrimp, potato salad, shrimp ettouffee and toast. That potato salad is most likely the best I’ve ever had. The shrimp and fish crispy and fresh. The ettouffee was nothing notable. I picked up a sweet potato cake for later. The platter is large and I could not finish it in one sitting. The ambiance is nothing fancy but the food let’s you overlook that.

I first walked in and was overwhelmed at how busy they were during lunch, and I ALMOST left. I’m so glad I didn’t, the staff did a great job getting people’s orders in and out. I ordered the seafood combo, and it was very flavorful and tasty! Great serving size as well. Will definitely be back!

There is absolutely nothing above average about this place, except maybe the low price. There is no service, by design. You walk up to the counter, make your order, and get a buzzer. Find a seat and wait for your buzzer to go off. Then go get your food. Overall, the place is well kept, but the booth I sat at had not been cleaned, nor had any of the adjoining booths or tables. The food was average and the servings were small. You don’t get any options to modify your order. All eggs are scrambled. Period. Don’t bother trying to modify your order. I asked for cheese on my eggs. I confirmed this when paying. Sure enough, the food came up, no cheese. The cook took back the plate, threw a slice of cheese on the eggs, nuked it, and Viola! Cheese on my eggs in 30 seconds. Overall, I was not impressed. Probably won’t return.

Pulled up best restaurants in Lake Charles on Unilocal and this place came up. It was my first time in Louisana and wanted to try one of the best places to eat. Let’s say I was far from disappointed. I tried the boudin balls and smothered chicken. Jalapeño and cheddar boudin balls were darn good! Smothered chicken… just like home! Cant wait to go back.

Only ate breakfast here, but it was very tasty and such a bargain! Less than 5.00 for scrambled eggs, hash browns, grits, biscuit and one meat(I had bacon, husband had sausage). They were quite the popular place for drive-through, but we ate in. If our visit to Lake Charles was longer, would have loved to gone back for dinner.

Hole in the wall not worth the drive. But I do appreciate that I contributed to a local business that supports its local community. I’ve tried soul food but this place is pretty much what you pay for. That’s why Im harsh on the stars.

My wife and I love this place. Since they have re opened we have eaten there too often. They have one of the BEST jalapeño cheese stuffed boudin balls around! Great prices and authentic flavor. Definately one of the Lake Areas best kept secrets.

It was exactly as I expected. Great food, great prices, and nice people. Four of us ate for $ 34. I am going back and taking a great friend who loves seafood and thinks he’s the best at preparation. Just want him to see how good this restaurant really is.

This place has been around for a very long time and its well known for great food especially PoBoys sandwiches. I ordered shrimp poboy sandwich large size fresh and it was delicious as i remember. Price was around 7.50 and if you want fries that’s extra cost. They have so many great things on the menu from seafood to burgers to bbq many great options. Great customer service as well. You can’t go wrong coming here and give it shot you won’t be disappointed.

I love places like Leonard’s; good food, good prices, nice people, and you’ll see a lot of locals, and people who have been coming here all their lives. Once you eat at Leonard’s, you understand why. The plate lunch was $ 9.00,and was delicious; crunchy garlic bread with just the right amount of garlic and butter, a huge piece of fresh fried catfish, that was too hot to touch, as they had just cooked it. Good catfish has a bit of sweet freshness to it, and this large filet was perfect. I also got a seafood rice dish and potato salad, both generous portions, and both good. My husband ordered a shrimp poboy, which was on wonderful, fresh French bread. They do dress them, as it should be. I like less on my poboys, so would ask them to dress it lightly, as I like the fried shrimp to stay crunchy. Between the two meals, and sweet tea, we had plenty to eat. If you can’t save room for dessert, be sure to take some of their lemon cake and sweet potato cake to go, as they are wonderful with your morning coffee, the next day. We will be sure to head to Leonard’s any time we plan on being anywhere near Lake Charles. If you go to the casinos, get to Leonard’s for lunch, you’ll be glad you did!

Absolutely amazing! Why have I not been here before?(Was the first words out of my mouth). Leonard’s Food Quarters is really good. When you walk in you order at the counter and your food will be brought out to you. They sell boudain, potato salad, rice dressing, you name it they sell it for you to take home. I can’t wait to go back!

We had a good lunch here. Leonard big salad had meatballs, ham, cheese, olives & eggs. It was fresh & huge! Very good. Sister had the lunch special– Fried fish, seafood rice, potato salad, bread & drink For $ 9.99. She loved it. Shrimp poboy was large with deveined butterfly shrimp! Very good!
On a day trip to Lake Charles in search of cracklins we found this little spot. There was nothing special about it, but the food was served super hot and really delicious and there were very large portions. The cracklins were decent too. Would definitely go back if I’m in that area again. If you don’t try anything else, you have to try the boudin balls, they were huge and delicious!
