I love treasure hunts. I look for ways to do things with my kids. My kids like Phineas and Ferb. I can say that this was the best thing of Epcot for me. Pretend to be an agent and accept secret missions in a country of your choice. Each country mission will take about 45 minutes to complete. The FONE will provide clues and instructions to stop the plans of evil Dr. Doofeenshmirtz. You will search for places and role play with some park workers. The FONE can also send signals to activate various boo-be-traps. We laughed, were surprised, saw detail things, worked together, and had a blast. That is what family vacation is about, to have fun together.

Ever wonder what happened to the old flip phones? They’ve been given a new lease on life at EPCOT as part of Agent P’s World Showcase Adventure. The easiest way to describe this adventure is that it is a scavenger hunt with modern technology. There are several kiosks located throughout the World Showcase where you can sign up, receive your flip phone and begin your adventure. Once you have your phone it is easy to pick a country. I do suggest walking to the country you pick prior to beginning the mission as I believe they are timed. If you start too soon, and the park is busy, your mission may end before you are able to complete it all. We signed up at the kiosk next to Norway so that is where our adventure began. The clues pop up on the phone along with short videos and photos to help you along the way. After finding the location described in the clue, you will get a visual cue that you’ve found the right place. I don’t want to ruin the surprise, but you will see things most visitors won’t and your kids will eat it up. Depending on the age of your kids you are likely to have to help them a lot. The phone can be difficult to see in bright sunshine and hear in large crowds. I suggest finding a shady, less crowded spot before pressing the button for your next clue. I don’t know if I would have had the patience to complete missions throughout the entire World Showcase, but I did enjoy working together to finish the mission. If you like scavenger hunts, I encourage you to give this adventure a try.

This attraction is hard to describe, but at the simplest level it’s a series of technologically-enabled scavenger hunts at various pavilions at the World Showcase. You can have fun completing just one hunt at one pavilion, or do all seven. (Mexico, Norway, China, Germany, Japan, France, United Kingdom) The hunts are enabled by an adapted cell phone(or «F.O.N.E.») which you can pick up at many sites in the World Showcase. It’s also a conceptual tour de force, as a mash-up of the Epcot World Showcase physical environment with the Phineas and Ferb plot and characters, all enabled by… an adapted cell phone that Disney provides. My issue with the attraction for first time visitors who may not ever return is that while it happens in the World Showcase, it isn’t really about the World Showcase. While playing the Adventure, you won’t be seeing the shows, doing the rides, enjoying the architecture, seeing the films, or exploring the shopping in the pavilions. You completely will never see the forest for the trees. But on the other hand, that’s also why it’s such a great attraction for repeat visitors. There are little annoying quirks that Disney never really thought of like where if you are doing the hunt in the UK during a performance of British Revolution you will piss a lot of people off since the clues you need to follow will have you right in their sight lines during the show. Also it’s not uncommon to get a F.O.N.E. that locks up, randomly stops working or has a very low battery that will crap out after only a few minutes of use. I suppose Disney’s thinking is that while Mom and Dad are shopping/boozing it up at the different worlds, the kids will now have something to do as well and while for some people that’s great, don’t forget to see all the neat things that EPCOT has to offer since there is a lot.
