Ocean breeze and the sound of crashing waves. Big fresh kale salad and Monchong fish sandwich. Helpful and friendly staff. A perfect mid-afternoon lunch.

Fabulous ocean front restaurant to dine in and enjoy the water, warm and friendly atmosphere & of course the fresh & fabulous FISH. We have lots of favorites — Ahi Bruschetta. Sat had amazing oysters, beet & ricotta salad. Mongchong was out of this world fresh. Dined on Maine lobster even though was hoping for Hawaiian lobster. It was cooked perfectly, sweet & delish. Michelle Ellman greeted & seated us on the lanai. She immediately made us feel welcome. We were dining at a fabulous vibrant restaurant but we felt at home. Our server was equally on top of her game. Super friendly but very efficient service. Live on the South Side but Honu is worth the scenic drive to Lahaina. Mahalo for a fabulous dining experience.

Amazong place with such great food. We had the Kobe hamburger and the Margarita pizza — both were excellent. Can’t go wrong here.

Usually love Honu but very disappointed last night. Dungeness crab salad way overpriced. Lamb riblets tasty but very fatty and greasy and lobster pizza special so loaded with cheese that that was all you could taste. Lobster an afterthought and at $ 37 for a small pie kinda shameful. Spoke to server about it but they didn’t seem to care much. Left over pizza given to parking guys… hope they enjoyed more than we did?

I would eat here every night of my life if I could. Don’t leave without trying the ahi bruschetta! Sunset views, great drinks and amazing seafood makes for a perfect evening in Lahaina!

Bang. This is the place you’ve dreamt about visiting when in Hawaii. Dining tables are practically on the beach. Food is on point and not pretentious. Service is Aloha, but also very attentive. We had the mai tai and the cucumber breeze, both were terrific and mai tai served in a super keen tiki glass. Pizzas are perfectly personal size with fresh tomato sauce that kills. Fish & chips are as good as you could hope for. Romaine salad with fresh fish is amazing. If you’re gluten free they have a HUGE menu to accommodate you. We had no room for dessert, but we’ll be back Fo sho.

Honu gets only 3 stars and this is why. If I had to rate on a scenic and hospitality scale I’d give them 5+ stars. Absolutely beautiful location. Staff were all very friendly and attentive. They definitely lack on their wine selection. Maybe from being from California and surrounded by awesome wineries I can be a bit snobby in that department, but the wines were very over priced and tasted just okay. All the other alcoholic beverages were great. I ordered the Sausage Pizza for dinner and it was great. Very tasty and perfect size for two people to share if need be. My girlfriend ordered the«Special of the night» which was a delicious white fish with mixed vegetables, and a quinoa blend. She loved it! We also ordered the Caprese for an appetizer and it was just okay. I felt the prices were a little high and the food quality was just okay. Overall, watching the sea turtles from our table and watching the beautiful sunset is worth any price so I’d definitely go back.

Honu gets 5 stars on all measures(food, view, staff, food, drinks, food… you get the point). This was recommended to us by a local who is gluten free so we knew we had to try it. I called ahead to ask about celiac/gluten fre and they were well-versed. We went for lunch and sat right on the water and had a great server who was completely aware of my dietary needs. She put the fried chickpeas down and told me they were made in a shared fryer so they weren’t guaranteed safe for me(that’s 5-star worthy right there). I had fish of the day with seasonal vegetables and turkish quinoa. It was perfect. The fish was mahi mahi and was so fresh and perfectly cooked to soft but flaky delightfulness. My husband had the fish and chips and loved them. We shared the mozzarella and tomato appetizer on the gluten free bread(kinda pita like– so good, I wish I could have packed a suitcase of it home). I also got a mai tai– fabulous! They fresh squeeze their fruits for fruit juices and use only fruit juices and rum– no weird mixers, better for a celiac and better for tastebuds. We couldn’t resist– and went here again for dinner on our final night in Maui! With my fresh mojito in hand, I ordered the lobster gluten free pizza. This was also delicious! My husband had the lobster mac and cheese, he liked it but it was a bit rich for him. Both times our servers were perfectly attentive and conversational without sticking around too long or checking in too much. This is a must when in Lahaina!

The service was great but the food did not meet up to our expectations. They start you out with a bowl of warm chickpeas which are delicious, a nice change from bread. The Kale salad was light and refreshing. Those were my likes. Now to dislikes, the butternut squash soup had too much cumin, it overpowered the other flavors. The Brussels sprouts were good but they were covered in to much cheese and cream again it overpowered the flavors. I also ordered the lamb riblets which were sweet but a little greasy, I could only eat a few. The restaurant has a great setting right on the water, they have free valet parking, service was very good but the food was just okay.

My husband and I were looking for places to eat while we were in Maui and came across this gem and are so glad we did! We saw it on the Maui vacation channel on our tv and were skeptical that it might not be that good and that’s why it needed the extra ad time on tv. So I immediately came to Unilocal to see what others had said about it. As far as Maui restaurants go, it is light on reviews, but 4 stars was a positive sign and the menu and photos looked tasty and it is right on the ocean so we decided to give it a go. Definitely make a reservation if you are going to come here! And if you are a bigger group(4 or more), maybe make it a little earlier than you want to eat as we saw people who had reservations waiting outside for a long time as the restaurant was so busy. We were only 2 so we were seated right at the time of our reservation. We were lucky that we got a table right on the ocean too! So peaceful listening to and watching the waves lap against the rocks. Beautiful. We ordered our drinks and were brought some crispy chickpeas. They were just ok, but a pretty good bar snack as they dry out your mouth a bit and make you want to drink more. I had seen photos of the pizzas online and they looked delicious, so that’s what my heart was set on and I ordered the margarita pizza. Beautifully oven fired and thin crust with fresh ingredients. One of the better pizzas I have had in a while. My husband had the crab mac and cheese and was pleasantly shocked at how much crab there was in it. It was creamy and delicious and worth every penny. We were far too stuffed to eat dessert, but I have no doubt those would be delicious too. Definitely worth a trip if you are in the Lahaina/Kaanapali area.

We had Christmas Eve dinner here and we had a really good time. Food was good and the cocktails too. The Ahi bruschetta, Dungeness crab Mac and cheese, New England clam chowder and the whole fish cooked in the wok were really good. But what makes This place really special is the beautiful view during sunset and all those sea turtles coming to the rock shore to rest.

Happy hour from 3 – 4:30. They have a nice gluten free menu. The gluten free mushroom pizza is phenomenal. The Ahi bruschetta is fantastic– a must order. Mahi mahi in their caper buerre blanc sauce is outstanding. Beautiful location right on Front Street. Ask for a table by the water’s edge. You can watch the turtles while you eat!

Nov 2015 dinner You can’t get any closer to the water if you can get a table by the water. Most tables are close to the ocean. Excellent service. Butternut squash coconut soup with 20 year old balsamic and coconut cream garnish was truly memorable. Delicious and the presentation was awesome. Spanish grilled octopus although pricey($ 24) is still a really great small plate. «Lifeguard» dinner(ahi, veggies, mashed potatoes) was excellent($ 40.) The ahi poke although presented nicely wasn’t as good as I had hoped. Maybe I’m just spoiled and too picky from 2 amazing poke restaurants in Kona(Umeke’s and Da Poke Shack). The poke today just didn’t seem local and tasted like the poke from the Philippines that is sold at Foodland grocery store not far from Honu’s as well as the pita bread seemed old. Excellent Pina Colada and Mai Tai’s(they better be as they cost $ 13.50 each). I will be back again and again as long as Honu is able to keep focusing on freshness and quality. If that means they need to lower the number of different dishes by 30% I’m totally fine with that. I hope they only offer local today caught poke or if unable to then to take it off of the menu. Overall Honu is one of the best restaurants in Maui and I highly recommend it. Think Aloha.

This place was just so wonderful. I do not know where to start. We were seated outside on the patio where you are gifted with an ocean view and have the feeling you are eating AT the beach. The scene is perfect for first dates, as it has a dim light and has a cozy and romantic feel. The service was absolutely amazing and efficient. Shellsea, you were wonderful. We had the AMAZING, Ahi Bruschetta(a mix of edamame purée + ahi tuna on a flax seed toast, tomatoes, and 20 year old balsamic vinegar.) This is a MUST at this place. I have never had such as delicious explosion of taste eating a simple ahi tuna, as I experienced it at this place. We also had the marguerita pizza, which was equally as delicious and fresh. I was so delighted with my experience that I convinced my fellow new peers at the resort to give it a try and they all had a wonderful experience. When I return to Maui, this place will be a «must go back to» item on list.

Honestly, not a fan. I went to Mala on my last visit to Maui and was underwhelmed. I was really excited to try Honu this time and see if I enjoyed it anymore. The ratings are great and my extended family goes every year when they visit the island over Christmas. With high expectations, I made a reservation for our latest vacation. We arrived to Honu and were greeted by the not so friendly hostess and sat at a table squished up right against the people next to us. I was confused at first when we sat down because this place is literally identical to Mala. The set up was basically the exact same. That was a bit of a disappointment, I would have hoped they had done something different with their two restaurants. Regardless, we sat down and began to peer over the menu. The prices were outrageous. For the quality of the food it just isn’t worth it. The best thing I had the whole night was the Ahi Bruschetta which wasn’t even something new as they also serve it at Mala. That was a bit of a bummer. I ended up just ordered a Kale Salad for dinner with Ahi Sashimi on it. There were only about five pieces of ahi on my salad. Again for the price, I don’t know how that is justified. My mom and her boyfriend had the Crab Mac & Cheese and a Marargita Pizza. The Crab Mac and Cheese was okay, but for $ 34…no way! My moms pizza was decent but for a place with pizza in the name, not great. I am not trying to be negative or picky. I was truly let down and with so many options in Maui don’t see myself returning.

Wow! What an enjoyable lunch at Honu Seafood and Pizza in Lahaina! After walking blocks in the blazing sun and intense humidity of Lahaina, what a cool and serene oasis to be welcomed into, literally at the water’s edge! You can hear the gentle clicking of the smooth stones on the beach being tumbled by the waves. Upon being seated, we were served fried chickpeas, which was a different and tasty teaser. We chose a starter: ahi bruschetta, edamame purée, flax seed toast, local tomatoes, 20 year old balsamic. So ono, we cleaned the plate! Next we chose our entrée: fresh ahi lifeguard, lightly seared ahi, miso ginger glaze, tomato caper salsa, grits, vegetables. Delicious and most enjoyable! Definitely worth finding and dining here! Woo hoo!

We had to drive into town so had the concierge recommend something good but not fancy as we weren’t dressed for fine dining. The view of ocean and sunset was stunning and the staff were busy but still took time to chat with the customers and make them feel welcome. The food was very good. I has a cup of the seafood chowder and oysters sandwich with fries. My hubby had same sandwich but shrimp cocktail instead of soup.

Came here on a recommendation. Glad I did. We were seated by the water so we had a great view. We were served roasted chickpeas which had a nice kick. My husband and I split: Ahi Bruschetta(edamame purée, flax seed toast, tomatoes, and 20 year old balsamic) — This was so amazing that we were inspired to go out and buy 20 year old balsamic immediately. We ordered a half portion which was more than enough for us. The pieces of toast were large. Margherita pizza-pretty good. Reminded me of a better version of Dominoes pizza Shrimp Sandwich with regular and sweet potato fries and cole slaw-just like a lobster roll but with shrimp. It didn’t have a lot of flavor but that’s probably because my husband requested light on the seasoning.
