Dr. Schoenau has been excellent!!! She has diagnosed an issue that I had been suffering with for more than five years and knows what tests to perform to find answers!!! In another emergency situation that I had she was the only one who found a large lump that ER missed the 3 times I was there and 2 other specialists as well as 4 visits with my GP. I was in so much pain and needed help and she found my issue within a few minutes. She is a great and efficient Doctor! I totally recommend her to anyone who has a difficult issue to solve!!! Or even routine care!

I went to Dr. Schoenau to help diagnosis stomach issues I’ve had for over ten years. No doctor has been able to figure it out — I thought maybe a new one could help. After researching Celiac online, I thought I may have it, and she was able to send me for blood tests to see if I did. I went to her office to find out the results and she told me there was no way I had it. When she gave me the paperwork right before I left, it said«confirms a celiac diagnosis.» I was confused. I went up the receptionist to ask if I could see the doctor again briefly before I left, as I wanted her to explain the results to me. She had me sit in the lobby for a few minutes before calling my name and telling me that the doctor didnt have time for me, and to just discuss next time I came in. I went to another GI! He confirmed my Celiac diagnosis within a minute of looking at the blood paperwork. I would NEVER go to Dr. Schoenau, in fact, I would urge anyone who does see her to get a second opinion immediately. It could save you years of stomach discomfort. Plus, I was intensely dissatisfied she couldnt give me a couple more minutes of her time. I’ve been gluten free for a month now and I’m feeling so much better already. Had I not gotten a second opinion, who knows how long it would have taken me to figure out.

I began seeing Dr. Schoenau more than 15 years ago for occasional rectal bleeding. I was a bit nervous about seeing a female doctor for such a delicate condition, but having heard from others how good she was, I scheduled an appointment. She asked a few questions about my overall health, and assured me my «problem» was not uncommon. She gave me a gown put on, told me to lie down and get comfortable on my left side on the exam table, and that she would return in a minute to take a look. She returned with her assistant, rested her hand on my shoulder, told me what she was going to do, and just relax and it would be over before I knew it. She then gave me a gentle but through rectal exam and concluded the cause of the bleeding was caused by several small hemorrhoids that would become irritated and burst from time to time, and that unless they really bothered me, just leave them alone; however, to be sure there wasn’t more going on, she recommended I return in a few weeks for at «flex-sig» exam. She explained this was a visual exam of the inside of the rectum and descending colon using a flexible tube with a TV camera inside. Right before the exam, I would be given a mild sedative to deal with any discomfort, so I needed someone to drive me home afterwards. To prepare, I was given instructions on what I could eat and not eat the day before, along with a prescription for a strong laxative that was to be taken the night before. Although I was a little nervous and apprehensive beforehand, the procedure itself went well. I remember little, except for the kind words Doctor Schoenau’s assistant whispered when she placed her hand on my back while the doctor inserted the scope(I learned later that was done so I wouldn’t move suddenly and injure myself while the she was guiding the tube into me). The results were negative, but she encouraged me to return in a few years for a complete colonoscopy since I was nearing the age when such a exam is recommended every 10 years. She explained that the exam is done under a light anesthetic and that the prep isn’t much different than what I had done for the«flex-sig». Since then, I’ve been back for two colonoscopies. I am completely comfortable with her and I feel I can discuss anything with her, or ask any question I need an answer to. She has a great bedside manner, is gentle, and takes all the time necessary to be through.
