We chose this place because of the Unilocal reviews. It was an excellent choice! We asked for recommendations and was told that the crab cakes and fried shrimp were exceptional — so we ordered that along with a red snapper fillet. The salads were good and cold. The crab cakes were delicious and had a nice sauce on them. The shrimp were huge and battered in a light beer batter with a side of spicy cream sauce. The snapper had lump crab and a couple of grilled shrimp on top with a great sauce. The sides were a delicious skin on mashed potato and some grilled asparagus and squash. A delicious meal with exceptional service. The place is bring-your-own-bottle. It looks a little rough, but inside is clean and neat with a 100 rating from the health department. Packed house and everyone was enjoying themselves. Go!

The service has gone from bad to worse. Waited 5 minutes after I got to my table to get a menu. Got the soup of the day(crab bisque) and it was just barely above room temperature. I did what I almost never do and sent it back(I ain’t taking chances with a cream based seafood soup). They grabbed it and took it away, no comment, no visit from the owner/manager…nothing. And they kept serving the soup to others… extremely disappointing. The owner did say something to me as I was walking out the door, but it’s really too late by then. Sat and waited a couple of minutes to get someone’s attention after they brought my entrée salad to tell them they never brought me a fork. Helpful hint: they sell sodas in cans only, so do not expect a refill on your $ 1.75 can of Coke. They seem to be doing well enough to put in a small, tabletop machine. It’s annoying And that’s the problem with the service issues, they take your focus away from the generally very good food and starts you to wanting to nitpick stuff. They really need to sort this out.

Excellent hole in the wall. Everyone is very friendly. Don’t expect a high-class restaurant, but you will get great food.

I like this restaurant. Always good with fresh seafood prepared correctly. Wear your boots if it rains… parking lot of this hole in the wall is treacherous! BYOB so you can bring your best wine to enjoy. Have fun!

Casual and fun. The food is awesome! You would pass this place a million times before stopping by and eating there. Make a point to drop in. One note — they don’t serve alcohol but you can bring whatever you like in and they’ll provide the glasses. Just go!

8 guys traveling back to New England we needed fuel and happened to Unilocal this place for food. We arrived and they had just closed but said they would stay open for us. Lucky us, the food and service was fabulous. Everything we ordered was great. We will make it a point to stop back next year.

If I didn’t read the reviews on Unilocal I would not have even thought this place was a restaurant. Don’t let the outside fool you. This place was busy and had everything from lobster tails and steaks to burgers. I had their burger and it was excellent but all the food I saw looked really great. You can bring in your own bottle of wine as well. This is definitely a gem of a place and I would return and try something a little more pricey on the menu next time.

When we got there, the house was packed, so we stayed despite the 30+ minute wait in a very warm space. Based on other Unilocal reviews, we had the burger and Cuban– both with fries(other options were $ 20+). Burger was good with high quality sirloin, but boring. The Cuban tasted like a ham sandwich, as the pork, mustard and cheese went unnoticed. Fries were greasy and cold. Overall– we were underwhelmed.

Absolutely incredible!!! Don’t let the outside, putting range, barn appearance fool you! The food is innovative, tasty, and always fresh. I had the Black Grouper with potato chip crust and buffalo butter sauce, mashed potatoes and asparagus. So good! I haven’t had a bad fish dish here yet. The shrimp and sauce they come with will melt in your mouth. Take a chance, it’s a must try place!

This place is pretty good. I give it 3 stars because it’s average. Nothing really to write home about, service was nice and the food was good. I feel like my expectations were high because of the other reviews. If I was a local I would come here occasionally, but I was simply meeting my father halfway between Atlanta and Montgomery and I think next time I would probably pick somewhere else to explore. This place was nice though, they close at 8 but didn’t kick us out right away we were just chilling and talking.

I rarely do this. As far as reviews go. But this place is amazing simply put. I will not delve into detail but please take my professional opinion and come eat here. It is 4 star food that you get for double the price in Atlanta right in our own back yard.

WHATJUSTHAPPENED!!! never in my life would I have considered stopping here to eat lunch — the outside resembles an outdated pool hall/bar/driving range and don’t get me started on the inside — but all this just added to the experience — upon walking in i find business men, farmers, and average guys just chowing down — at 11:30 the place was packed for lunch I ordered a cheddar bacon burger and the meat was fresh but under flavored — the fries and slaw were fantastic — i’ll be back to try something different and maybe they can earn the elusive 5th star overall if you’re in the area then stop by and experience cart barn grille

If looks could be deceiving, this place would be the poster child! Inside of an unassuming old building attached to a driving range is a rock solid, hole-in-the-wall dive with some seriously kick-ass food! Our large(golf-nuts) group stopped here for a lunch meal while on a trip. Everyone was completely satisfied with their meals. Most of us had some sort of sandwich… Cuban, Burger, Shrimp Po-Boy…and they were all cooked perfectly and tasted wonderful. Their fried were crispy and not greasy, which is always a plus. I know at least one person got crab cakes and he thought they were quite tasty as well. Do yourself a favor and give this place a try… just don’t try to wander off with one of the large winner’s checks hanging from the wall! You’ll see what I mean when you get there…

STOPIT! You really cannot tell a good restaurant by its cover! Normally this place wouldn’t jump out at anyone, but too many locals told me that it was an amazing place and they had killer burgers — so this Unilocaler HAD to check it out! The burger was AMAZING no question about it. The fries — top notch — only problem is — malt vinegar has not made it to the south for fries and these fries would have been PERFECT for it! Price and parking were both great — server was friendly, speed was on target, but the place looks a mess from the outside and the inside isn’t too much better. However, the meal was so good — I HAD to overlook a few things and just kick back and say yall … if in town — put this on your list!

A diamond in the rough! We are so happy Unilocal had reviews on this restaurant because it was amazing! We were driving from ATL to the Gulf Coast and were debating on a regular highway stop… then I found this option. The best! Now, they do not have much of a sign out front and it looks like a red abandoned golf shop. But then magic happens. We walked in to a fry smoke room filled with aromas of wonderful food. A woman from across the room yelled over to let us know we could sit any where. We sat by the open kitchen to see what they were making. Everything on the menu looked like perfection. The seafood looked fresh and was put together with care. We unfortunately only wanted a quick small bite before heading back on the road so we did not order their classic fresh seafood entrees. We chose a burger and a shrimp poboy. Both melted on our mouth and had homemade sauces. The fries were fresh and the free bread was hot and came with melt in your mouth honey butter. The staff was fun and they seemed to know all the locals. Beware of their spunky humor, it will keep you entertained and want you to come back soon! Give a shout out to the chef. It is odd such a talented chef is in an interstate dive, but it make it makes me happy to try something local.

By now, I feel it’s safe to say that I’ve tried my fair share of «Atlanta’s best» burgers, from fast food to gourmet. So when my friend told me about Cart Barn Grille’s amazing burgers, I had to give them a try when I was in LaGrange. The first time my friend brought me here, it was a Saturday afternoon. There were zero cars in the lot, and we thought this was strange. We looked at the business hours posted by the door, and my heart sank when I saw that they didn’t open at all on weekends. And I was really craving a good burger. =( Fast forward to the last time I was in LaGrange on a Friday afternoon. They only open for 2.5 hours for lunch Monday through Friday. Wow. We drove to the little old golf«cart barn,» which had been converted into a restaurant, and strolled in around 12:30 pm. The parking lot was packed, and so was the restaurant. There was literally one table that was free, so we sat there initially. We didn’t like the table because it was 1) near the entrance, 2) close to the restrooms, and 3) barely lit. However, we proceeded to look at the menu and ordered our food. Later, we moved to another table as a group left and also noticed they had some patio seating available. I already had my heart set on the«Barn Burger» cooked to medium temperature, and it took me about 10 seconds to decide I wanted to add cheddar cheese and bacon to it. Since I usually prefer to have a soda to wash down greasy food, I ordered a Diet Coke(they don’t offer Coke Zero… boo). My friend also ordered the burger. No more than 10 minutes later, out came our burgers! * Barn Burger($ 8) w/Cheddar Cheese(75 cents) & Bacon($ 1) — The burgers are served with fries, coleslaw, lettuce, tomato, and a peperoncini as well as a packet of mayo(which I didn’t use). I was impressed with the size(larger than average!), temperature, and texture of the burger as well as the generous portion of perfectly cooked bacon that topped it. However, the flavor didn’t «wow» me as much as Bocado’s or H&F’s burgers. The seasoning was a lot more subtle. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the large burger and was extremely full when I was done. The fries were great and reminded me a bit of In-N-Out’s delicious sticks of potato. I like to dip my fries in sauce, so I had asked our server if they had BBQ sauce. Since they did not, I asked if they had ranch. They did. Score! The fries were even better dipped in the fries. Normally not a fan of coleslaw, I actually had some of it and thought it was good because it wasn’t too sweet and just the right amount of mayo in it. The peperoncini was a nice extra touch and was great with the burger as well. My greatest peeve about Cart Barn Grille was that soft drinks, which cost $ 1.75, are NOT refillable. At first, I didn’t know this and thought it was strange that our server didn’t automatically come to refill my Diet Coke when I was finishing it. And they have both the canned soft drinks as well as a fountain machine. Hmmm… My assumption is that it costs you the same for either a fountain drink or canned drink since you don’t get free refills anyway. I guess it’s a matter of personal preference. I was not happy that I didn’t get a free refill. Overall, Cart Barn Grille gets 4 stars for their great burger and fries and super quick service. Honestly, I would have given another ½ star if they offered free refills. I needed more than just one cup of Diet Coke with my burger but wasn’t willing to shell out another $ 1.75 for it, so I got a cup of ice water instead. I guess business so good that they don’t need to open long hours or open on weekends, which is awesome for them. At the end of the day, I’ll admit that I would come back if I am in the area again on a weekday and craving a huge, tasty burger. [Review 365 of 366]
