Met a bunch of my friends here over the weekend for some fresh seafood. I can’t get good seafood in NC. I love coming here. The food is always AMAZING! The best seafood I have ever had. Much better than those busier places, like Acme Oyster House or Deanie’s Seafood. My husband and I shared the big seafood platter. It was a ton of food. We barely ate half. It had fried fish, fried shrimp, fried crawfish, fried soft shell crab, fried crab cakes(my fave), fried stuffed shrimp, and fried stuffed crab claws, along with fries and toast. It’s definitely worth the price!!! The seafood gumbo was okay. I’m not a big fan of sausage in gumbo, so I could’ve done without. This is a great place to eat and hang out. I’ve heard they have really good pizza, but I’ve never had it. Always seafood!!!

Restaurant in the boondocks that charges French Quarter price. The food was good. Seafood was well fried, jambalaya was solid, and stuff fish was good. Though the crawfish sauce had no taste. The gumbo was very watery. It was like a soup. I don’t think they took the tine to make a rue. The service was very sloooowwww… We waited an hour for our food and they tacked on 18% gratuity. I probably won’t go back there again.

Red Beans and Rice with Catfish, the food was great and the service awesome. You will not be disappointed with this place. Small but great!!! We had an airboat swamp tour and was given another place to try. They were closed and happened upon this place further down the road. The tarter sauce is home made and unlike any you have tried, great! The special was Red Beans and rice and catfish. I thought that was kinda strange cause you are usually served catfish and cole slaw or fries. Ordered it and man, large plate filled with red beans and 5 to 6 catfish strips plus a large portion of buttered toasted French bread. Great experience and great service from the ladies. Supper nice!

We stopped in for lunch while wandering around trying to find a place that wasn’t touristy. This is perfect! My husband had a seafood platter and I ordered red beans and rice with sausage. The portions are enormous. The food tasted great and the service was really friendly. The restaurant is very small and filled with locals who all know each other. Absolutely nobody was rude(like a previous review stated) but we certainly looked different from the locals and gathered a few curious looks. Had we spoken to anybody, I’m sure everybody would have been very nice. A nice drive if you are looking to get out of New Orleans and see local culture!

Came here at the recommendation of my cousin Dave. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. The restaurant is family run, and the food is like Louisiana home cooking but with flair. Highly recommend this place.

I have stopped in here for lunch several times. I’ve had the daily specials and grilled shrimp salads — everything has always been good.

If you’re looking for terrible food and unfriendly service, this would be a good place to go. If you’re not a local, plan on being uncomfortable. It is obvious that tourists are unwanted here. Definitely not worth your time or money. Beware! My husband and I got food poisoning here.

Much better than Jan’s. This is the«other» restaurant in town. Much nicer atmosphere, better food, and friendlier service. We had the sampler appetizer platter – bacon. wrapped. fried oysters! And they cooked our fresh redfish for us, bronzed and almondine. Everything was delicious. Voleo’s ain’t fancy, but it is good. Lots of brown, fried food, though. That’s what they do.

I called ahead on a Wednesday to see what time they closed. They stayed open just for my friend and I! The stuffed flounder was UNBELIEVABLY amazing. Do yourself a favor and eat here soon!

Was in Lafitte for a fishing trip and had a late lunch here on a recommendation. I had the shrimp and eggplant creole. They served a HUGE slice of fried eggplant with shrimp creole on top. The shrimp were large and there were sliced mushrooms in there as well. My parents both ordered seafood platters and said the fish was very fresh. It’s a bit of an adventure getting here, but it’s worth the trip! Will be back!

Great food, great service, and great environment … They cooked the fish we caught and served it to us … Staff is very friendly and courteous. I will definitely be back next tune I’m in town.

So I’m trying something new in a very small town called Lafitte, less than 30 minutes from Nola. I figured it would be typical Cajun food. Well, let me tell you… I was pleasantly surprised. Their seafood was fresh! Yup. You read that right. They get their seafood from local fisherman and you get fresh catch all the time. Their oysters were delicious and fish superb. Don’t expect bread before your meal. They give saltine crackers and spread. I wish they would’ve used the bread for their po’ boys as the bread or nothing at all. But that is not a big deal to me. Seafood gumbo was really darn good. The flavor is spot on. It is not as thick but who cares. The flavor is great. I wish I had gotten the large. We got their combo appetizer… fried bacon-wrapped shrimp and oyster. Yummmmmmm and plump! Then We GOTTHE Assorted seafood platter. Again… yummmmmmmm…the only one that was ok was the crabcake. It was just good… not grreattt. Locals go there. Fishermen go there. Service is great. People there are local. I would go back. It feels good to have Cajun home-cookin’ and to support the locals! Seriously peeps… give it a try. The only reason they didn’t get 5 was the crabcake and the whole cracker deal. But the rest was fresh! I care about that in seafood. Note: I can’t speak for how the burger and po’ boys tasted, but they looked really good. My friend who is a southerner said it looked just like what he grew up with. You will pass through the really small main town before you hit the restaurant. You will pass by piggly wiggly. I took a pic since we don’t have that in LA. You will pass by some really nice homes. Happy Eats!

We ate here on our way to the national historical Park. The atmosphere is very down-home and the staff friendly. Although they have a coffee machine, they really don’t serve coffee. The waitress went out of her way to learn to make coffee in order to serve us. She gets an A for effort. They had a dish called Creole trout or something like that. The fish did not taste at all like trout. It was a very oily fish and reminds me of Swamp fish. It seemed like a cousin to the catfish. I really liked it but some may not. The shrimp and eggplant shrimp Creole was a refreshing healthy change from the usual deep-fried Southern meats with no vegetables involved. However, the tomato base was just spaghetti sauce. The fried chicken was some of the best I’ve ever had. The batter was very light. Nothing like KFC. Don’t bother with the frog legs. Get the fried chicken instead.

Loved this little place. Not fancy but it’s some of the best fried seafood and gumbo. The restaurant was filled with locals when we went. Great place to go after a swamp tour

There are some standout tidbits about this place but as a whole I couldn’t give it 4 stars. The food is mediocre: using store bought dressings just seems like something that can’t be overlooked. We had the cajun eggrolls for 10 $ you get oysters and bacon wrapped in a wonton wrapper. It had no texture or color and felt like something I could prepare better at home. The gumbo was pretty flat of flavor and again I could make better at home. Where the restaurant shines is fried seafood. I thought the portion was appropriate, batter was nice, and the seafood was fresh. Overall I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here; and since that is exactly what it takes to eat here I guess I won’t be coming back. Not missing much.

So you know when you’re in the middle of nowhere and you’re hungry and you see some people walking down the road with takeout containers and you pull your car over and ask them where they got the food? That is how this adventure began… We went on an evening airboat ride with airboat adventures just up the road. After the tour we wanted to see the area and check out some of the houses and such. On our way back we stopped in here, the sign is really easy to miss. Their menu has a lot of random stuff on it. Eggplant Parmesan? Seafood AND Pizza? But, perhaps when you’re the only show in town you have to be diverse. I would consider this a dive/diner. Nothing fancy. The seafood seemed fresh and prepared properly. The pizza was fine(premade crust). Good portions. The staff was friendly. The prices were decent. If in this situation again, I’d probably wait until I got back to NOLA and eat around there, but in a pinch, it was an interesting experience with some local folks. The only real disappointment was the fried green tomatoes, there is a decorative sign with a picture of fried green tomatoes and really made me want some, but they don’t make them!

You have to know its there to find it but well worth it. Ask any local and they’ll direct you… probably just having you follow them there. Place was packed on Friday at 8:00pm with a mix of locals and visiting fishermen. Eggplant Dupont(fried with crawfish sauce) was excellent appetizer. Seafood gumbo was New Orleans style and very good also. We’ll go back again!

I agree with everything the other posters have said about this place. Voleo’s is a small family owned restaurant in the even smaller family owned town of Lafitte LA. There are not a lot of dining options here and the other place, Bouttes, is terrible so if you find yourself finishing up a swamp tour and eager to hit up some really tasty, authentic local fare, give it a try! We ordered the BBQ shrimp, fried chicken, and stuffed crab. The crab was a little doughy but that seems to be the way they do it down in these parts. Personally, I prefer a lot of crab meat with only a little binder but everywhere I’ve been in LA they seem to like a little shredded meat mixed into a bit ball of seasoned dough. Kind of like a crab-flavored hushpuppy. The shrimp were awesome. Lots of rosemary in the butter sauce alongside bread for dipping. The chicken was fantastic and in my opinion, rivals any of the famous chicken places up in New Orleans. The ambiance was very laid back and the servers were friendly and attentive. Definitely give it a shot if you find yourself in the area!
