I love when I am in search of a lovely card for a special individual because that means I get to stop by this little shop and find a perfect card. I seriously love browsing in this store. I have been in here a handful of times and haven’t even made my way over to the other non-card items the sell. The cards they sell her are so unique and of such good quality that I feel like I am giving someone a small gift instead of just a card. I have never had a complaint about the customer service here. All of the women employees that I have interacted with have been very professional and helpful.

This is a lovely«special occasion» paper and card store, with no other store nearly as nice in this area. It is part of a chain and I have found each of their stores to have beautifully presentations and only selling quality, first class merchandise. If you are looking for a beautiful card and are willing to pay the price, this paper store should be your one and only stop.

I will go here when I want a unique card for my wife. Not sure what else they carry, but if you want a card that looks like it was custom made this is the place.

I went into Papyrus on Monday to buy some greeting cards, and I saw some notecards on the counter that could be personalized with initials. I liked them, so I paid for a set to be made with my initials. Carrie waited on me, and said she would call me as soon as they were ready. She called early the next day and said the cards were ready. When I got there, I didn’t like the way one of the initials looked on the card. I thought it looked slanted instead of straight, and I was noticeably unhappy. Carrie took the time to explain, in a friendly, patient and professional way, how the printing was done and, how little control she had over the angle of the initial. The computer program slanted the initial, not she. As I continued to be unhappy, she went back to the computer, searched for and found another font, asked me to look at that font, which I liked much better, and she reprinted a new set of notecards for me that I really liked. It took 10 – 12 minutes(which is a long time in a retail environment, but she persevered). Carrie gave me superb customer service, and never seemed impatient or defensive or irritated in the process. I was really impressed and very grateful.

Best place to buy great cards for all occasions! Yes the cards are not cheap but sending a card is much better than sending a text message. I get compliments all of the time when I sent these cards. They are beautiful… If the store has one negative it is all of the customers from Trader Joe’s that believe that they have the right to park in the lot. Karen is super helpful and really friendly and make its it a joy to shop here for those special cards!

Though I live in Lafayette and this location is the closest one to my home, I find myself driving to the Walnut Creek location simply because the customer service is so incredibly terrible here. I have never met snootier salespeople. The only reason I’m not giving them 1 star is that I love Papyrus products. If you feel the same way about the quality of their cards and stationary, I highly suggest making the trek to Walnut Creek.

Snooty. I was looking for a specific product. The lady behind the counter acted as if she couldn’t be bothered to help me find what I was looking for.

First, the good news: the product is incredible. Beautiful cards, the only way to get better ones is to make them yourself, and at this stage of my life, I don’t have time to do the Martha Stewart gig. I spend a LOT of money in this store, bought my Christmas cards here, am heading there today to get cards for a certain occasions. If you live in Lafayette, this is a very nice store and within walking distance of downtown. The bad news: this is ANOTHER example of below average customer service. The cards are wicked expensive, and I feel the check-out clerks are perfunctory at best. They seem to enjoy gouging customers without expressing any appreciation for our business. I am saddened but not surprised at the experience of Beth G. reviewer. It would be so easy for them to smile and say, «Thank you for coming here,» instead they barely make eye contact with you and act profoundly bored. If there is a sale, they do their best to make sure you get the lowest possible savings. So go ahead and stop there, but ONLY if you live close by, and bring your K-Y and bend over as you approach the cash register.

I work as a sales rep, and I needed to buy new thank you cards to send to customers. Since I was passing through Lafayette, I decided to stop by the Papyrus there. I felt a bit guilty going to them versus the locally-owned and operated Elmwood Stationers in the same lot, but I have an annual Papyrus membership, so I popped into them instead. The shop was smaller and more cramped than some of the other locations I’ve visited, but they had free parking out front and a decent selection of cards for the amount of space they had. That’s part of why I bought the annual membership – because I like the quality of the company’s designs. They have more hits than misses. Plus, they stocked a lot of Crane products, and while I didn’t buy any of those this visit, I love seeing a classic company of my home state do well. It was the check-out experience that ruined the store for me. The woman was friendly enough until I told her I had a Papyrus membership, and then she barked, «Which one?» She asked if I had a card, and I said no, I usually give my phone number and that I had bought my membership at the Berkeley location. Her tone remained rude and cold, and she let me know that they did not participate in that program, but she would give me the discount«this time.» She acted like I was a pestering beggar. I will never buy another card in that location again. During a sales transaction, customers should not be made to feel that they are being impositions if they have spent time and extra money to join a loyalty program. Those customers are likely to spend more than average on cards, and that means those customers if made loyal to a particular location will spend that money there. I’m guessing that the woman was tired of being asked that question, but there was a way to turn the situation around to be a positive for the store. She could have politely while smiling told me that her store did not participate in that program, but that she would honor my membership discount this time. Then she could have launched into a discussion of why her store was unique from the other Papyrus locations and let me know what if any loyalty program her location participated in. Instead I was scowled at and treated like an unwanted customer, and I am not going to take my business where I am not appreciated.
