I’ve been shopping here off and on since probably 1990. Gail has always been great! I don’t buy much high end stuff, just had all of my basic set up and repairs done there by Harold before he passed(RIP) and Don before he moved on. I pick up strings and misc parts now and again, but have bought a handful of guitars and cables from them as well over the years. They’re not competitive price-wise with the online retailers in my experience, kind of a «mom and pop vibe» but always treated me right. I took lessons from Harold for years, and whole heartedly endorse guitar lessons from Jeff Anderson as well. GREAT teacher, and genuine good dude.

I stopped by while on business in Lafayette on a whim. I noticed the sign but the approach of the building is a little stark, not much to draw our eye to the front door. The staff was super friendly and asked if I needed help finding anything and struck up general musical conversation. It seems most of their business comes from giving music lessons. Most prices were on par but I didn’t notice anything grossly overpriced. Of course you can get better deals on the Interweb, that should go without saying. If you want home town customer service then this place is a fit for you. Perhaps if you’re into whoring up your axe with hotrails and Bigsby’s or building a touring grade drum kit maybe not. But they have a good fender amp selection in the back room, lots of Ibanez guitars. Plenty of entry level electric and acoustics, I even saw a resonator back there too!

Not the biggest but they have a very good selection of guitars to choose from all different brands and different prices. We got a very good deal on a very amazing guitar. I will be coming back here to buy my next guitar.

When my son was 5 he began asking to learn how to play the drums. After a year of his asking, I finally started looking for an instructor. McGuire Music & Sound was the ONLY place I found that had an instructor who was willing to give lessons to my 6 year old. The other people I spoke to would not take on students younger than 8. I am happy to say, my son has been a student at McGuire for a year and a half now and he really enjoys his lessons with Joe! The staff and instructors are knowledgeable, pleasant, and fun! If you are looking for a Music Store that will make you feel like part of their ‘family’, look no further!

I have been frequenting music stores for the past 18 years. I know music stores. I’ve been in the best(Gruhn’s in Nashville, Manny’s in New York, American Music in Seattle, Make’n Music in Chicago) so I know what good is. And I can honestly say that if McGuire Music was located anywhere else, where there was some semblance of competition or notion of quality, McGuire would be out of business. Dismal selection, poor service, and abnormally high prices. Order online at Musicians’ Friend before stepping foot in this place.

This is the place where I had my first guitar lesson so I’m a little biased. This place has a large selection of tons of instruments and the prices for the lessons weren’t bad. If you are a pro or just getting started in music, go here. You’ll find something that you like.
