I’ve only had them at Off the Grid, but they are the best donuts I’ve ever had, hands down, and I love donuts. They are like gourmet pillows of sweet amazingness.

After reading these reviews, my husband, son and I were excited to check it out. We drove 15 miles on a Sunday morning, to find a «closed» sign. CLOSED??? On a Sunday morning??? I’ll update my review after getting a chance to try this place out when they’re open, whenever that is!!! What a disappointment.

Johnny’s glazed raised is the best donut I have ever had. It has a slightly crispy outside with a fluffy, doughy inside. Just superb. Can’t speak to the other flavors as I can’t get myself to order anything else. They are very friendly and always go out of their way to interact. The inside is like a time capsule to donut/coffee places of the 60’s, great vibe.

I would happily give this place 5 Stars but now that the idiots in Lafayette think they can take their dogs into a food establishment I am not going to give it more than one star. And on Monday I am going to call the Health Department! Dog people get a clue… NODOGSINRESTAURANTS! Because of your arrogance places like this will wind up getting closed down.

Visiting from SoCal and Unilocaled a donut shop while staying in Walnut Creek. We ended up here in this cute mom and pop shop in Lafayette. Worth the wait!

I am such a huge fan of this doughnut shop! The doughnuts are scrumptious and the customer service I receive from the woman working the front counter is always so wonderful. She is always super friendly and is so great with the children I nanny for. She makes them feel so welcome and always gives them an extra doughnut hole with their sprinkled doughnut. I love all of their doughnuts but especially their jelly filled doughnuts and the maple iced ones. I wish it wasn’t cash only but I understand. Parking can be a little tough in this strip mall because of the CVS and Diablo Foods located nearby.

This place is incredible, I don’t even like donuts! I loved the old fashioned and the raspberry covered plain donut. You can find Johnny’s with upgraded branding and design at Off the Grid Fort Mason on Fridays

I’ve been going here my whole life. There is a review that they used to post outside their establishment which talks about how Johnny’s is better than Krispy Kreme. It’s all true. I loved donut holes because of this place: it’s not too much donut and yet here it’s light, it’s sugary, and it’s unbelievable. The service is also wonderful: the people are incredibly friendly behind the counter! In front, I usually see septuagenarians who have probably been coming here as long as I have… that’s the lunchtime crowd for this place. But let me tell you: the maple bars… they are NONPAREIL. They are oozing in maple frosting which melts perfectly in your mouth(unlike M&M’s, they’ll also melt in your hand too…) and the bread part of the donut is not really like bread. It’s more like a puff. A puff of magic. But truly, this place is unbelievable. It’s been a fixture in Lafayette for a while. Go there. No regrets.

We appreciate this cute little shop now that we can sit down and chat with everyone. Customers clearly have their favorite donuts and make it a part of their daily routine. Lounge at the bar if you’re by yourself or sit in the mini-booths if there are more of you. The shop keeps early hours.

After flakeys donuts in walnut creek closed I needed a new favorite donut shop. I bring these into work and everyone goes crazy over them. Best donuts I’ve found in our area.

Great donuts in the area! Easy location to find with plenty of parking available. Good customer service and friendly staff. All purchases are cash only but luckily Wells Fargo Bank is directly across the street. I came here during a Sunday morning. The donuts were fresh, soft, and very tasty. The donuts were not greasy or oily. I bought a dozen donuts for my coworkers and they all agreed these were good donuts. I will definitely return and tell my friends about this spot.

Best. Doughnuts. Ever. Always have the best selection of doughnuts, and prices are excellent! The owners and workers are so friendly. They’re very vested in their customers, what great customer service! Try the cake doughnut with chocolate frosting and sprinkles. You won’t be disappointed :)

Tried the chocolate glazed cake donut, old fashioned and apple fritter. I wasn’t too impressed by the first two — standard donuts — unmemorable. But the apple fritter! Super greasy buttery goodness. Crispy glazed outside and moist apple filling. It’s also huge. Like way too big and rich for one person. I recommend splitting it at least two ways. First couple of bites were amazing then by the time I finished my half I was like«stop, enough».

This place is just ok. The donuts are dense, and this, not that light and fluffy. Also, the glaze isn’t sweet enough. The service is good though!

They lose an incredible amount of customers because of the way they run this business. Although they have good donuts, I think it is absolutely absurd that they only make enough for the first hour or two of business. There have been multiple occasions where I have come in with my family and they only have two donut types to choose from. This happens to friends that come here as well, I have decided to stop coming.

Ahh yes, donuts, the staple of the American breakfast. Johnny’s has been here in Lafayette for as long as I can remember and its a local secret that you won’t hear about outside the city. The inside retains that classic American diner feeling and when you walk in, the scent of donuts fills your nostrils. This place is poppin’ in the mornings and they make a ton of batches so that you know you’re always getting a fresh crisp donut. They close at 2pm everyday where they will be been completely sold out. The establishment is cash only which may be difficult if you’re ordering in bulk for an event.

THEBESTRAISEDCAKE donuts in the valley. TOPS all others as their yeast culture has been around since the early days. fluffy and great flavor — you will notice with the FIRST bite. Worth an out of the way drive? maybe not for most people — but to eat these donuts will bring you back to your youth and the days of a GREAT tasting donut. Johnny’s SELLSOUT everyday by 2:00 pm

They only have two cases to hold all the donuts, but because they fly off the shelves, especially before 10am or so, they are never in there long enough to take up that much room! You won’t find lemon pistachio, maple bacon, or any other nouveau donuts here, just a solid selection of classic raised, bars, and old fashioneds, plus a few custard filled, cinnamon, and apple fritters. Their donut holes are still $ 2/dozen and on a busy Saturday they will go through three or four batches. And Peerless coffee too! They are cash only though, which ticks a few people off in 2014, but hey, they are a small business, and if they don’t want to pay to lease the machine, and pay for each transaction that’s up to them. Not as many donut places in the far East Bay as there are in SF/Oakland but these guys should satisfy just about any sweet tooth.

We finally tried this place when we were in the area. I must say that I wasn’t a big fan. Selection was not big since we came later in the morning. The doughnut holes for me had a strange after taste. The kids had a sprinkle doughnut I had a maple. It was just okay for me, I was expecting something better. Would not return again since it was under whelming.
