Worst gravy I’ve ever had. Canned gravy has more flavor. The pancakes didn’t even taste like pancakes. Bacon and eggs were exceptional somehow. Save your money.

Place is VERY clean nowadays. Which is good. As a matter of fact, they were spending so much time cleaning and organizing, we didn’t get served very well. And it wasn’t too busy when we were there, late morning. Maybe trying to get everything cleaned up after morning rush. Food was fine, and lots of it. First time we have eaten there in years, which is silly considering we live very close by. Hopefully next time the service is a tad better.

My wife and I had breakfast. I’d place the quality of the food about the level of Dennys. I had the skillet which was heavy on the potatoes and light on everything else. Extremely overpriced at $ 12. Many better places in McMinnville.

Decided to give the Café another try after new ownership and claiming to have the best chicken fried steak around… well we took the whole family on Halloween morning for breakfast. I will try to be polite here but the worst part about our breakfast was the waitress’s costume… she pretty much had nothing on and she was not some young girl that had any excuse to be dressed like she was… not even then. My children were even uncomfortable and we had to just tell them to look her in the eye while ordering. We laughed more than anything but C’mon… it is a place of business. On to the food and service. just ordinary. had to wait for coffee etc… the chicken fried steak is NOT the best around… my biscuits and gravy were pretty good though. Typical slow service, we were a bit disappointed because our usual breakfast place has been incredibly lacking so we tried the café for a change… off to Mcminnville for breakfast from now on.

I have stopped by here a couple of times fora quick bite and have never had a great meal, just OK! I have never had the same waitress or cook for that matter so there must be a lot of turnover here making it hard to get consist food. Last visit, biscuits were rock hard and gravy was bland with no sausage in it which I love. My wife’s country potatoes were just potatoes fried and that’s it, no onions, peppers, seasoning nothing. Probably won’t be going back here until I try the other breakfast places in the area and figure out where I want to spend my hard earned money.

The food was below average. The pancakes were chewy and rubbery. My son could not cut his own cakes. The bacon was not crisp and it took forever, almost an HOUR, to receive our food. The roast beef has a green hue about it(old)!!! The bread was not fresh and the tots were rock hard as they were really overcooked. I cannot believe that this place is rated so high. They must all be family. It is after all a really small hick town. With that being said cereal at home is a huge improvement over breakfast or lunch here. The price/quality differential here is really harsh. Save your money and eat at a restaurant that hires actual cooks. We did not get sick. That is the best thing, or recommendation, that I can give on this greasy spoon.

Had a great breakfast here recently. We both had the excellent Chicken Fried Steak! Great service, very friendly owner and staff. Super clean, nice atmosphere, good coffee and good menu.

We waited 40 minutes for our food and we had to ask for refills on our drinks. The beef on the French dip was green in places(old) dry and fatty and the pancakes were like a chewy sponge. The tator tots were over cooked and were not seasoned. To top it off the«lemonade» was cheap and tasted more like Kool Aid. This was a huge disappointment. Save your money. Don’t eat here.

Big portions. Decent service. But nothing great. The turnover of this business leads to me trying to order the same thing every time and getting something different every time.

I hate to not meet everyone else’s rating expectation, but I wasn’t all that impressed. Yes, this place was clean, friendly, and comfortable, but the food took quite a long time(over 20 minutes for a tuna sandwich and a salad) and it wasn’t all that spectacular. Don’t get me wrong – I would go back, but I’m not feeling as enthusiastic about taking others there…

A great, locally-owned diner. Friendly prompt service. Every part of our breakfast had good flavor and the food was hot. This can often be a problem with a busy restaurant. Stop by if you want to support a family-owned & operated restaurant.

Wow! Great breakfast and friendly staff. I ordered chicken fried steak and it arrived on a platter because it wouldn’t fit on a plate. Another gem discovered on Unilocal

Some of the best chicken fried steak we’ve had. It was a huge amount of food, glad we shared a meal. Great service and nice people. This has become our new«go to» breakfast place!

We were looking for a new breakfast place to try. we did some searching on Unilocal for restraints in the area. Barb’s, from the looks of the previous ‘American Café’ reviews and closed status, looks like a re-opened new ownership type of establishment. We were greeted when we came in and immediately seated and our drink order was taken. I ordered a veggie omelette and asked for very little cheese with fruit as the side instead of potatoes. My wife however ordered the American Café Omelette which was sausage, ham, mushrooms, grilled onions, green pepper, cheese and smothered in country gravy. Her omelette was suppose to also have bacon in it, but they were waiting for their delivery(no biggie). My veggie omelette was cooked perfectly and the ingredients were so good. There is something very tasty about how they grill their veggies first and not just heat them up to add to the eggs. My wife loved the gravy. She said it was rich, flavorful, and thick(cream)y — not thick(pasty). The server was very attentive and friendly. Barb’s has that good ‘diner-type’ feeling to it and we will definitely come back.

Very nice, local, clean café. I had a crispy chicken sandwich with a side of homemade potato salad. Very good. Staff is friendly and is familiar with the community. A good resource if looking for something locally. I recommend.
