Ken’s Olden Oddities

The young guy behind the counter was «RUDE». I asked about prices and items. He kept saying «the old man doesn’t make deals». Or the old man makes the decisions. No motivation. No help.

My Husband just picked up an antique table that was was supposed to be stained and repaired by Ken Olden. I’am very unhappy with his work and his work ethics or lack there of. This table is a mahogany wood table which I wanted stained a satin black. This table has been in my family for many many years and I entrusted it in Ken’s hands because I had used him in the past to restore an antique buffet back in 1970, but then he did beautiful work and was a man of his word about his prices. Ken had my mahogany table for months since August of 2014, he claimed there was difficulty in finding the stain, I was very patient. He kept changing the original quote which I had a receipt for in writing. I would remind Ken on several occasions of his original quote and tell him that my expectation was that he keep his word since he had given me a quote in writing. Ken stated «I will not change the price again this is firm you give me the deposit and your balance will be $ 240». Ken requested a deposit of $ 650.00 dollars which I promptly mailed him. The balance owing was $ 240.00. When my husband picked up the table today 02-​23-​2015, he inflated the bill by another $ 60.00. The original receipt stated he would make a leaf and restore the table for $ 800.00. He never made the leaf, there are nicks in the table and he didn’t even bother to polish the brass hardware on the legs as promised. He did stain the table black. Don’t go to Ken Olden he will swindle more money out of you even if you have a receipt for his original estimate. What ever difficulty he may have encountered during the restoration should have been handled in a more professional manner, since he calls his self a business man. He should have asked if I wanted to pay more for the restoration before charging me above his original estimate. That’s why you do an estimate, I thought I was dealing with a reputable person obviously I was sadly mistaken. The one star is for getting the color right.

Ken and his boys are the best of the best. If you are looking for antiques or just old stuff, Ken has it! If you have something made of wood and it is damaged or missing parts, Ken can restore it. BTW, he is within a block of the L.A. County Fair Grounds.
