Hogsbreath is always good and consistent. Atmosphere is comfortable and feels very local. Happy Hour and bar menu excellent and great way to get together with friends and vacation guests.

I’d like to give 3.5 but we know that’s not possible. Prices were high if you ordered off the regular menu. Doing the«sunset dinner» is absolutely the way to go(ends at 6pm). Sunset menu is a 3 course meal — soup/salad, entrée, ice cream = $ 20; myself and my friend picked from that menu. I like smaller menus as to not be overwhelmed while ordering so it was fine that there were only 5 or 6 entrée items. My husbands steak alone, off the regular menu was $ 33. He said it wasn’t worth it, it was tough even with being cooked to medium rare. I could only imagine what well done would be like. Service was fast and attentive. Waitress didn’t know how long steaks were aged — didn’t bother to find out for us either. She also had a difficult time describing the desserts. If you want to sit at the bar or bar balcony, you seat yourself. We wanted to hear the piano player but picked outside anyway — but in the regular dining area. The bar balcony was scorching in the sun even w/shades down. We also wanted to sample the appetizers which are only half off at the bar section … So annoying! The regular dining balcony was shaded until the sun began to set, we were dying — only mister and slowly moving fans. We moved inside for dessert and the staff seemed irked, especially the manager. And the piano player — even in the bar you could hardly hear him. The upright/not amplified piano is pushed against a wall — um hello, that’s where the sound comes from! The few bits and pieces we could hear sounded great. If you’ve got a live musician, celebrate him & show him off!

Went to hogs Breath for a cocktail and app. Calamari. The sauces were fantastic. The calamari reminded me of Bazooka Joe, only breaded… wampwah. Service was outstanding.

My wife and I ate here the other night, at a sold-out time of approx. 8pm, and they sat us out on the balcony, overlooking the street. Not the alley, but the street… :) The salad was excellent(Caesar), the pasta was VERY tasty, and the drinks were well made/mixed. We’re not lavish spenders, so we didn’t do everything on the menu to test-drive our new gold card, but we found the pricing to be decent, the service excellent and attentive, and our overall experience was very good. Thank you!

Food has always been mediocre. Older tourists, snowbirds, attracted by Clint Eastwood memorabilia. Eastwood only lends his name to the place, no direct involvement. Give it a miss.

I had a really good experience here today. Parking was really easy to find. There’s tons of spots outside the restaurant and we just took the stairs right up. The first thing I noticed was the demographic. This place mostly caters to the older crowd, but I think it’s nice to visit for all ages. We came in a group of 11 and made reservations for the Sunset dinner. This included a soup or salad, a main entrée, and ice cream. I started with the artichoke soup, which is reminiscent of a chowder, but has a beautiful artichoke flavor. It’s topped with 3 croutons and even though its a small cup, it’s rich and gets your appetite going for the main course. I ordered the flat iron steak with mashed potatoes and green beans. The potatoes were well-seasoned, the green beans were crunchy/fresh and tasty, and the meat was tender and perfectly cooked. I finished with a generous scoop of super-chocolatey ice cream. This ran me a mere $ 20! Plus a glass of the house Merlot for $ 6 makes me a happy camper. I also tried the Miso Salmon which was also really tender and tasty. Food came out really timely, service was friendly and attentive with both refills as clearing plates, and the décor in this place is unique and rustic. Note that the sizes for the main entrees for the sunset dinner are a bit smaller than from their actual menu, but the 3 courses are oh, so super filling and good. They were even so nice as to bring out a special dessert and candle for a couple’s anniversary we were celebrating! I’d suggest making it here, especially if you take advantage of the Sunset dinner(must order before 6pm!) Price is more than fair considering the area and quality of food!

Knowing this was a Clint Eastwood establishment, I dared them to make my day. They did! The filet was tender and delicious. The seabass was fresh and tasty and paired well with the house pinot grigio. Service was friendly and attentive as well! In conclusion, this place was all good. No bad. No ugly. Stay hungry my friends…

I’ve been going for their happy hour at the bar lately and I must say their poke stack is one of the best I’ve had! Also, the mussels with chorizo are a must. The sliders are decent and the drinks are awesome! The bartenders are attentive and friendly. I’ve only had dinner here once and I had the peppercorn steak, the sauce I wasn’t crazy about but the meat was tender and juicy. The ambiance in th place is perfect with a piano man in the background who takes requests ;) A must for a romantic date! Love this place!

Attentive service and nice atmosphere, but the meal was inedible unless you like your fish tasting of ammonia and disinfectant, drowned in cream and cheese, and your vegetables swimming in oil and garlic. This was odd since I asked the server what might be a plain, light meal without any cheese. Perhaps it was meant to be «French.» Worst meal in a very long time :(

I have been to the happy hour and bar more times than I want to admit and eaten in the restaurant several times. I have been there on my own and with friends and family. We have never had anything less than a great experience. Based on my experience it is hard for me to understand any of the negative reviews. Try it for yourself. Let Stephen make you one of his signature cocktails, enjoy the food, live music and the beautiful view. Cheers.

Hog’s Breath had a great lunch special in its half sammich and soup combo. The artichoke soup was awesome, but the soup of the day was cream of butternut squash. This one left a bit to be deisred. Despite attempts to season it, it came across too sweet. Maybe it would’ve worked as a cold soup. The sandwiches were great and so were the cocktails. We’ll be back…

Stuffed Halibut ~ Enough Said!!! Love that Old town La Quinta has been Revived! I moved to La Quinta when I was 16, when very few street lights existed in this town! Circa 1986 La Quinta helped shape me into the artist I am today! Enough Said, a Magical Town with Some Great Restaurants. Had Dinner with mom Sandy Lee Huntley the night before another surgery, not knowing what was to come, this restaurant helped us relax and savor the wonderful fish and took our minds off worry for awhile. Good Memories, and the surgery was a SUCCESS~

I tried to give this a 0 rating. Anything above a 2 star rating makes me question who they they hired to Unilocal good things After walking through the front door we we shuffled to the back corner of the restaurant. It was a room al by itself and we were the only ones in it. Food was bland, overpriced, and service was awful. I wish a read a review like thus to save me a trip and an overpriced bill. Reminds me of a bad banquet room.

Sat outside and it was Very cool. I love the little downtown La Quinta area where Hogsbreath is located. At first we sat at the bar and that seemed fun too however it was pretty early 530 or so and outside was still pretty. We had calamari appetizer and it was very very good. We had the early bird dinner specials which were a pretty good value at 20.00 each and they came with sides etc. and they were good. Will defiantly be back.

Only a little experience so far(a few weeks ago) with this bar-grill-café in the Kaiser group, but that experience was delightful, and when visiting La Quinta I’ll make a point of returning. Hog’s Breath occupies a large upstairs space in LQ’s «Old Town» commercial development(Old Town, rebuilt a decade or so back, is a shopping and business complex in a pleasant village format). Had some excellent daily specials in an off-season mid-afternoon lunch visit. Very savory lentil soup; refreshing herb salad with nut-crusted salmon filets, orange segments, pomegranate seeds. Highly restorative in the summer heat! Hog’s Breath is located near some other gastronomic businesses — other restaurants as well as the Wine Bar(under new ownership) with its impressively well-chosen wine inventory at all price ranges; a coffee roasting company, and others.

The Reader’s Digest version: Came for cocktails and an appetizer around 2:30. The tuna was very nice, I had the ‘pinto’(house) margarita and my wife had the ‘Cadillac’. I liked mine, and she thought hers was a whole lot of alcohol. The happy hour starts at 3, and the menu has a lot of interesting things to try. One item I recall thinking about was the Fillet Mignon quesadilla, but I was there at the wrong time. Concern: The server was chatting with other staff, loudly, about customers out on the deck and we were inside and able to hear the conversation. Obviously these kinds of conversations happen, but they shouldn’t happen where one customer can hear the conversation about other customers. This is not a good thing. Summary: Tee-shirt was $ 20(skipped it), drinks were nice, tuna was exactly what we expected and wanted, Clint paraphernalia is all over, two TV, s in the bar, but it all could have been better.

Hearty happy hour with the greasy cheesy bites — homemade potato chips with sour cream and blue cheese dip, steak fajitas, and spinach salad showered with blue cheese. A piano player all the cougars sidled up next too, filming him with their iphones. We were the youngest in the bar area, by at least two decades. But maybe because were there early, around 6? Or maybe because it’s La Quinta! There are indeed posters, murals, photos of Clint Eastwood, but I get the feeling he no longer owns it, but sold the original in Carmel to the restaurant group and now they’re hyping up the founder(even though there’s no longer an existing connection.) Clint doesn’t seem the tacky type to own a restaurant with a giant mural of himself…
