My daughter has been taking piano lessons from Mr. Burd for about a year and a half. She started as a complete beginner and now she can really play and read music on her own. We are amazed by how well she can play. Mr Burd is very patient with her and takes the time to explain everything in a way that she can understand. He really focuses on piano technique, theory and artistry while choosing pieces she’s interested in. He has pushed her in a very gentle way to become a better musician. We would highly recommend The Music Lessons Studio to anyone wanting to learn to play the piano and a good solid foundation in piano technique.

I have been taking piano lessons from Paul Burd for two years now. I am an adult student that returned to the piano after an extended hiatus. I studied the piano and saxophone from elementary school through middle school, but Paul is the best teacher I have ever studied with. In the past two year, I have learned more about music and technique than I ever had when I was a child. Mr. Burd is very encouraging while trying to bring out the best in his students. He focuses on technique and provides excellent constructive criticism. I really appreciate his ability to focus on my personal growth by tailoring his lessons to strengthen my weaknesses. His passion for music is inspirational, and his knowledge of music is expansive. TL;DR, Mr. Paul Burd is an excellent and knowledgeable teacher. I highly recommend him to anyone with a desire to study music.

I’ve been taking piano lessons at the Music Lessons Studio for several years now and I can tell you the instruction is top quality. The lessons cover all different piano techniques and styles of performance, and Paul is friendly and approachable yet keeps you on track with furthering your ability. You learn all different genres of music throughout your studies, learning not just to press the keys the right way but also how to really play the music. And each lesson is truly fun and insightful. The moral of the story: if you’re looking for piano lessons in San Diego, you’ve got to come to the Music Lessons Studio.

I(adult student) have taken accordion lessons from several teachers but did not stick with it until I found Paul. Paul is a true professional, having university degrees in both piano and accordion, plus obvious enthusiasm and passion for music. He is a teacher who teaches, with a lot of constructive critique, rather than just giving assignments and then letting the student perform sloppily. He is good at letting me go at my own pace while still nudging me to progress. Paul provides both technical exercises and beautiful music to play. He is proficient in and teaches all genres — classical, folk and jazz. Highly recommended!

Paul is as good as it gets when it comes to teaching and playing the piano. His mastery of music concepts and ability to simplify them for his students makes learning fun. As a musician and collaborator, I highly recommend his studio if you’re looking for piano lessons in virtually any style!

Paul Burd has been my 16 year old son’s piano teacher since September of 2006 and my 8 year old daughter since 2010 and they both are doing very well. Paul incorporates all of the important aspects of a musical education in his instruction including technique, rhythm, arrangements, music reading and writing, as well as history. I feel our son gets a complete and balanced education from Paul. Always professional and on time to his lessons, Paul also shows a sincere interest in my son’s development as a musician. Paul treats my son not like a child but simply like a student of music. He has high expectations and is both supportive and critical in helpful ways. He challenges my kids to improve without pressure or degradation. We would recommend Paul Burd to anyone interested in seeking a musical education and we highly respect him. It has been a pleasure having Paul teach our children for the past six years.
