I feel it my solemn duty to strongly warn anyone against going to Eye Associates of San Diego located at 5565 Grossmont Center Dr., La Mesa. Had I read the only Unilocal review about this place before I went, I would’ve steered clear. I had gone to Dr. Wasserstrom’s office in 2010 for new glasses. I had glasses made off of an existing prescription with no problem. The next year I had sunglasses made, again, with no problems. In November of 2012 I decided to get new contact lenses. I was impressed, my exam was very thorough and they even did some things I had never had done before in an exam. My new lenses were ordered. After a few weeks I got a phone call letting me know my lenses were in. I made an appointment for a fitting, the next available appointment was a few weeks out. When I went in for my fitting the right lens was fine but the left lens was about as comfortable as a plastic bottle cap.(I’ve been wearing lenses for 30+ years by the way.) The tech examined the fit of the lens, which I almost couldn’t keep in it hurt so much. Adjustments were made to the prescription and a new left lens was reordered, they held onto the good right lens for me. No big deal, over the years this has happenned a few times. Several weeks later, I got the call the new lens was in, scheduled an available appt a few weeks later. The second lens still didn’t fit, but not quite as badly as the first one. Dr. Wasserstrom came in and looked at it through his apparatus and said it looked fine. It wasn’t even close. Every body’s shaking their head, saying they just don’t understand, all very nice mind you. Still, I’m not mad, maybe it was a goof-up at the manufacturer or something. I got re-examined and adjustments were made to the Rx again, and a third lens was ordered.(For the record, I did have a minor eye injury which was treated by Dr. Rice between the second and third lens fitting. I was unable to try on my lenses for two months or so while it healed.) When the third lens arrived, I made yet another fitting appointment. I tried the third lens on; the fit was fine, but I couldn’t see, it was blurry. I was told to let my eyes adjust, it was suggested I take the lenses home to get used to them. After 15 minutes of blinking and hoping, I still couldn’t see. I didn’t get one image when I looked through the new pair of lenses, but two distinct different images, the right eye clear and the left blurry. Again, head shaking, «We just don’t know, etc.» A fourth lens was ordered,(I know, by this point I can’t believe I stuck it out this long either.) Now it’s November of 2013, a whole year later, and it’s the same with the fourth lens, it fits and is comfortable, but I still can’t see clearly. The technician was just about the remeasure me again for a fifth try and I said ‚“Never mind, it’s so late in the year, I’d like to use my insurance benefit for something. I just happened to bring my old glasses in case this lens didn’t work, can I get new lenses in these frames?” No problem. I think she was relieved honestly. A few weeks later I got the call that my glasses were in and I went in to pick them up. Now this is where it starts to get suspect and schistery. When I went into the office there was a little old lady with her oxygen tank trying on a contact lens in the optical department. With her was a younger woman, I’m guessing her daughter. The daughter was asking mom if she could see and mom was not sure. Mom was clearly of the generation that doesn’t complain or want to be a burden. The older lady was handed a card by Melissa of the optical department to read. She read very slowly straining to try to make out the words. «Can you see OK?» the daughter asked over and over again. «Well, I can see that sign over there on the wall.» «Those letters are big, can you see to read?» the daughter asked. Back and forth and back and forth it went on while I waited. The daughter said mom’s favorite pass time is reading, she really needs to be able to see. I think it was three different times Melissa suggested that they should take the lens home and try it out, they could bring it back if it didn’t work. The situation was starting to feel pushy. Observing all this and knowing I would never be coming back to this establishment I interjected as politely as possible, «Just sit there for 10 or 15 minutes and make sure it’s right. They ordered my lenses four times and never got it right.» Melissa calmly added, «Well she has a difficult prescription.» Sure. After a few minutes the mom said she really couldn’t see. I picked up my glasses and got out of there. I drove home. I took out my lenses and tried on my glasses. There was a thick set of scratches about ¼ in wide in the middle of the left lens across the entire height of the lens. I cleaned it and cleaned it and it’s part of the lens. I was livid needless to say. I drove back immediately
