This is by far one of the best «markets» I have been in. It was super clean and bright. The store was neat and organized. The shelves were full of products: a good selection of canned goods, snack foods, cold drinks, household items, dry goods, of course beer, wine, spirits and more. The shop was welcoming and it had good curb appeal. The clerk working was friendly and helpful. The parking can be challenging because the lot is shared with another business and it’s only a few spaces available for parking.

This has been my go to liquor /​convenience store since moving to the area about a year ago. They have a decent selection of good beer including Stone and some others I like, plus all the usual varieties. The two main guys working there are friendly and remember what you want.

These guys are hard workers and always friendly. They remember what we buy.
Of course if you are going to go grocery shopping do it elsewhere. But for a quick beer, wine, candy, –it’s all good.
I also feel safe in the store, not like I’m going to be taken advantage of. Lots of cameras.
Do check dates on dairy (like you normally should!)

I have never written a review before, but I feel like I need to for these guys. I have no idea what that lady is talking about in her review. These guys are awesome. They are extremely friendly and helpful. They even brought in a type of beer I asked them to carry. There may be places with better beer selections and lower prices, but none of them will have owners as great as these guys. I’m glad they don’t have to deal with that unhappy reviewer anymore.

I know it’s a tad higher than a super market etc but the owners and workers are friendly and actually get to know your name and greet you when you enter and go out of their way to help. Beer selection is good and even had a random cleaning supply I needed once. If I have my dogs and the store is busy they will go get what I need and even pack it in my backpack for me. In a society where customer service is generally abysmal, I will pay a few bucks more for great service. And knowing the story behind the owners from talking with them it’s pretty offensive that the first reviewer calls them names.

Love 5 Star Market & Liquor! i don’t know what that 1st lady was talking about, but I am a 32 year old male and my wife and I go here at least 4 times a week. i am no «eminem type either». I am a plain old white guy. Nick (owner) works here and knows us by name. This is probably the most organized, well stocked corner store i have found in San Diego, let alone La Mesa. Check it out sometime, all the lables are «faced», the prices are great (for a non-​supermarket) and the people are friendly. i’m not sure what the 1st lady was talking about, or what her deal is, but as i said, I am here multiple times per week, and love having it right down the street.

Typical corner store place that has everything from cigars to butter, go early as you would do Walmart so you won’t run into «urban» & wanna be Eminem type of dudes. I once saw a girl come in there with her hair still wrapped in a scarf like she jumped out of bed & thought about buying a lotto ticket.
The alcohol is over priced & most of the food has dust on it.
I go here on occasion, I used to go more but the married couple that owned it retired & now a bunch of douches run it.
I miss the wife & husband duo that was always nice to me.
Now the guy that works barely speaks as you walk in & doesn’t want to answer any of my question.
That’s ok because I’ll take my business somewhere else you dummy. I hate when business’s are rude to paying customers, it’s like do you want business or are you just in between jobs right now.
I would have gave them three stars when the married couple was still there but now this store just plain sucks.
