I recommend their scallops, they are to die for! They are huge and are super moist. I am not a steak person but my husbands rib eye was very flavorful. The view in their dining room was beautiful. My husband took me here to celebrate our 1 year anniversary and our table was overlooking the ocean. They gave us complimentary dessert stating«happy anniversary». My servers name was david, he was very nice and took care of all our questions. He even told us about their $ 1 specials on Sundays for their oysters! Parking is terrible, but parking valet for $ 10 is reasonable and it is right in front of their restaurant. Dress code is comfy elegant. Not too fancy here. I also reccommend their mojitos, I liked the Mai Tai at first but then it started getting too strong. Their complimentary bread is delicious because their butter has spinach in it! Definitely recommend this place for a nice romantic date.

My husband and I went there yesterday to celebrate our anniversary. This steakhouse has a lot of features that would give it a 5 star rating: 1. The food — we started with a delicious shrimp cocktail, followed by a filet Mignon… the food was AMAZING. After we finished our main course, the waiter brought us a chocolate cake with«happy anniversary» written on it. We also ordered the crème brûlée… and it is THEBEST I’ve had. 2. The view — you can sit with a view of the cove, and you can see the seals and(if you are lucky) even dolphins in the ocean. 3. The service — Carlos our waiter made suggestions and was very personable. He offered to take our picture when he saw we were doing selfies. Altogether, it was a great experience.

The bar is very dark and usually pretty quiet. They do have the games on in the bar. Had the mushroom flatbread which is good. I’ve had it before. The ahi poke was weird. THey add cut up oranges to it which is a first and did not win a fan that way. They cover it with those chinese wonton noodles which I had to pick off, they don’t serve it with crackers or any type of scooping device so if you ask they’ll bring you some crostini. My friend had the steak app on the HH menu. Every time I’m there someone in my party orders it. It was pretty rare so he had to sent it back to be cooked more.(He owns a restaurant) he wouldn’t have if it wasn’t so rare… The beer flights are good and a nice way to taste new beers. They have a pretty good wine selection too. Not my first choice but ok for. HH once in a blue moon.

Azul is one of those high end steakhouses I normally don’t visit anymore because it’s too expensive and my partner only eats seafood and vegetarian dishes. However, my brother was treating since we were celebrating my nephew and niece’s birthday(both June babies). First and foremost, this steakhouse in La Jolla by the cove with one of the best views around. They even tout a sunset dinner menu. If it was for view alone, this place would rank 5 stars. However, I often use 5 stars to denote that I recommend the place wholeheartedly. Azul does not need my review to get a regular clientele, there’s plenty of fish in the ocean willing to pay the price at this restaurant. I do give them props that the food was delicious, we ordered the ribeyes, filet mignon and bay scallops and none of us came out wanting more. The service is pretty good and they had a nice candle/dessert for my nephew(he is 19 and going to college here in SD). After a full meal, we all had too much to even order dessert except the bday boy who unfortunately is allergic to nuts(which was on the free bday dessert) he ordered some ice cream as his dessert. Maybe 4 ½ stars is a better reflection if you know going into this restaurant, it’s a premium price(nothing less than 30 for an entrée — it did come with a potato side). If I wanted a view, I could go next door and pay lower prices. If you are willing to take out a date to this place, at least reserve a window seat to appreciate the view. I saw a lot of families dining here but if I remember there was really no children’s menu so I am sure they were ordering the smaller steaks lol! Overall, yes I recommend this place but look over the menu first and always reserve since it does get busy by the window area with the view. P. S. I was afraid to peek at the tab(there were 6 adults — no drinks except 1 Azul mule and a dessert port) but I am sure it was hefty as the big steaks they serve.

Have been going to Azul’s for many years. Truly enjoy their open bar area and patio on a warm beautiful La Jolla afternoon. The Happy Hour menu is a treasure. I love to order the soup, the wedge salad, the ahi roll, the flat bread dish and I often order the steak frites switching the fries out for garlic mashed potatoes. This is an entire meal that encompasses their prime meat selections for this appetizer. Quite a deal. The view from the rear of this restaurant is awe inspiring, panoramic and is the stuff that incredible movies scenes are made of. I enjoy a long lazy meal now and then filled with all of the great items Azul’s has to offer on their highly acclaimed dinner menu. I have seen, on more than one occasion, several high ranking Who’s Who of San Diego Hob Nobbing their with their peers. And I have held GNO(Girls Night Out) HH’s there on countless occasions as well as full Birthday Parties with 15 to 30 people and for the most part it went very well. Parking can be found down and around the block for $ 3, $ 5 depending on which lot. Or you can valet in front for $ 8 or whatever they are charging now. If you want a rich dining experience, go to Azul’s, it is unique in its ambiance and superior on the delivery of Steak and Seafood dining. Deserts are great too! The Bartender Michael is a sweetheart and makes really tasty Lemon Drop Martini’s.

Azul has been my all time favorite seafood restaurant in San Diego. They’ve got nice ambience set up to the fine dining standard, floor to ceiling glass windows and of course beautiful ocean view to pair with that(the view would be even more amazing with daylight if you come here for brunch or an early dinner before sunset.) Their managers and servers are extremely nice, passionate, and attentive. I have been to San Diego for four years and celebrated my three birthdays in Azul, and loved almost every single experience. Last year I wanted to reserve the wine room for my birthday but the room was booked for a company event. The GM contacted me in person and offered me the alternative to dine by the window with a nice table set up with balloon bouquet and card. Another thing I like about Azul is that they serve $$$$ quality food with $$$ pricing. My personal favorites are crab cake and ahi tuna poke for starters, and rib eye and scallop for the main course. They also have a pretty decent selection of wine. I used to come here every other week and will definitely miss this place after I leave San Diego.

Wonderful Sunday Brunch! The highlights: — Priceless view(ask for table by the window overlooking La Jolla Cove) — $ 5 upgrade to unlimited champagne or Bloody Mary’s — Interior of restaurant is beautiful — Excellent service — Great options on the menu. I had the $ 1 Sunday special oysters and the Crab Cake Benedict. LOVED my food. Also tried the chicken Caesar salad which was very good. Would definitely come back. A great place to impress out-of-town guests and make them jealous that you live in San Diego and they don’t!

Clean and classy with an exceptional view make this place an excellent brunch spot. I showed up here with my brother on a Saturday at around 11:00 a.m. My brother was visiting SD. I had a few gift cards. Our birthdays were coming up and were less than a week apart. It just seemed like a good idea to just do a pseudo birthday brunch here. The place was surprisingly empty with the exception of 2 tables. As a result, our beautiful and friendly hostess immediately greeted us and directed us to seating of our choice. Naturally, we chose a window view that gave us a clear view of the coast and cove. It was an excellent view to take in for while brunchin’. We were greeted by our server almost immediately and he was friendly and informative. He informed us of a promotion they had going on that included free endless mimosas for simply signing up for the Brigatine/Azul’s promotional email list. I didn’t indulge since I was driving but my brother did since it didn’t seem like a bad deal. I will admit, I somewhat regretted my decision not to do so because the mimosas did look refreshing. We poured of the menu for several minutes while our server checked in a couple times and was extremely patient. Ultimately we decided to go each go with the Steak Sandwich and split the Steak & Caramelized Onion Flatbread. Each entrée came with pastries and in this case it was pumpkin muffins. These were brought out while we were waiting for the food to arrive. They were fairly light and enjoyable. The wait for food didn’t seem very long at all. It was probably about 15 minutes give it take. The portions were quite large. The flatbread came with an over-easy egg on top and the steak sandwich came with a pickle, fries and ketchup. The ciabatta bun was soft and the steak was nice and tender. The only issue I had with the steak sandwich was that some pieces of the steak had huge chunks of fat. I’m not a fan of a lot of fat on my foods, I’m just not a fan of the texture. It also made a very minute amount of the steak hard/impossible to eat since the fat was too chewy/hard. This was the case with my brother’s sandwich as well. I still thoroughly enjoyed the sandwich but instead of being a «great» sandwich, it could have been a «perfect» sandwich. On the other hand, the flatbread was outstanding as was definitely our favorite of the two entrees. It had plenty of flavor, the steak was small and lean, and the egg was nice and runny once you cut into it, just oozing out all over the flatbread which actually added a nice bit of texture and flavor to it. We were pretty much stuffed after this. Considering the amount of food we ate, the location as well as the premium view, a meal that came out to less than $ 50 for two people seems pretty reasonable. The steak sandwich might have a little room for improvement but aside from that I’d say that I was quite pleased with our meal. I do somewhat regret not trying the Steak Chilaquiles though. I do still have some money left on the gift card which might give me an excuse to come back and give those a try. Either way, the location and view are prime, the service was great and the food was quite good. It makes a great getaway for brunch and probably even dinner but I’d prefer the view in the daytime. I was quite pleased and can easily see myself returning.

I heard great things about this restaurant and wanted to check it out. My friend and I had finished a day of walking along the beaches of Pacific Beach and La Jolla and decided to get some appetizers and drinks. We were seated right away and immediately enamored by the décor and the beautiful view of the ocean. We ordered two glasses of wine and I asked our server Judy which of the 2 wines that I was considering was the most dry? I expressed that I really like dry wines. When it came out and I took a sip and found it reminiscent of liquid candy. I did get another glass of wine and our food came out exquisitely. The tuna poke appetizer had a nice ponzu/soy crushed sesame sauce that complemented the delicious tuna. I also ordered a chop salad that had avocado in it and was a generous portion. My friend and I really enjoyed the food but were truly turned off by the service. I felt like Judy didn’t really listen to our needs and didn’t take the time to provide attentive or friendly service. She dropped the check off before we asked for it and then it took her 20 min to pick it up. When she did, she didn’t even say thank you and quickly dismissed us and tended to her other tables. Although we showed up in casual clothes and appeared to be the youngest guests there, we felt like we were not given the same treatment and care as the others.

Azul… well, when you have an 8pm reservation it is more like Negro or Gris. We could barely make out the sea but we could easily see the lights of the coast making the cove. Valet is right outside the door which makes things nice since I decided to bust out some of my tallest heels for the evening. You walk down a flight of Terra-cotta stairs and meet the hostess area. They took us to our table immediately and told us about happy hour. This is the nicest establishment I’ve ever been carded in. Maybe it is because hubs has been telling the«dad» jokes since he was like 11… the waiter asked if we were 21 and he said«no, 13.» So, the waiter said, «Now I have to card you.» I’m young enough that it isn’t really a compliment but old enough that it is kinda an inconvenience. So ladies, don’t forget your IDs. Maybe it is because the average other patron had at least 20 years on us. The room has a kinda Art Deco vibe. Pink colors everywhere. The menu is classic steak house. We had drinks and apps down the street so we went straight to salad. Hubs went with the Caesar, nothing special, just classically prepared but he was happy about that. I did the beet salad and was very happy. Arugula, roasted red and golden beets, orange wedges and olive purée and a tangy salad dressing. Yum. The bread they serve comes with an herby butter. Goodness. We both ordered the New York Strip because that’s what we like and having never been there I like to try out my classics. I had the mashed potatoes and hubs had the fries. Both of the potatoes were good but nothing special. The cook on hub’s steak was perfect, mine was a tad under but it was so good I didn’t really care. We ordered the 3 taster sauces to try: a classic steak sauce, a port shallot reduction and a creamy garlic truffle. I think this is the way to go because unless you use a lot of sauce just one of these tasters would have been enough for the two of us but it was nice to have a variety. We opted to skip dessert because we were feeling so full but I did see a cute little cheesecake at our neighbor’s table. Overall, everything was prepared well, the service was good and they used quality ingredients. The vibe is a little old school. Don’t expect to see anything new or to push your pallet in any way but if you want a classic steak meal with all the seafood sides, this is the place to go. I could see taking out –f-towners here.

3 stars for the food and 5 starts for the view provide for a 4 star eval from this girl. The food was good, don’t get me wrong, but for the price I would have liked for it to have a bit more presentation. There are even better ways to present a simple yet elegant meal yet in my case it appeared that a steak was thrown onto a plate with a glob of mashed potatoes. Could have been better, The view is spectacular to say the least. If you are looking to show visitors the epic la jolla view over a nice(yet pricey) meal then this is the place

My boyfriend took me here for my birthday dinner. OMG the scallops were delish. So soft and tender, it is the best place for scallops here in san diego. The view is just breathtaking watching the ocean kiss the rocks as we ate dinner. Oyster were so-so. We came here as a recommendation from my aunt. I thought it was amazing but my boyfriend was not impressed, he ordered steak and it was too dry. I have to agree, this place is good but you have to watch what you order. Take my recommendation and try the scallops. It ranks #3 on my list but #1 in san diego.

Drove down to La Jolla for Cinco de Mayo weekend. And whats a weekend getaway without eating some honest to goodness meeeeeeeeaaat??? First night had to be at a Steakhouse. We were staying at Estancia La Jolla Hotel so we wanted something nearby. Unilocaling away I did. Reserved online without any difficulty. Located in the heart of La Jolla’s spots for great grub, shopping, and museum. Valet. Yes;) Short steps to the restaurant. Our table gave a breath taking view of the ocean. And anyone who knows Chel, they know its all about the view for Chel! The hostess was welcoming. Our server was darling. Total charmer but was on top of everything from great entrée recommendations to providing adequate attention to our needs. We ordered. Two 16oz rib eye. One medium rare. Another one medium well. So soft to chew. Definitely one of the juiciest cow I ve devoured. An order of Crab cake. Sinfully amazing! Sweet mixed green salad… we had to throw something healthy since our cocktail didnt count as healthy regardless of the fruit mix in there. Hahaha Crème brûlée for dessert. I die. I shouldve ordered two just for me! Five star all the way!!!

Top notch. My husband recently took me on a quick get-away to La Jolla, and he made us reservations for dinner Saturday night at The Steakhouse at Azul. What a fantastic choice! Everything from the ambiance to the service to the food was excellent. We were staying at a nearby hotel, so we walked to the restaurant. The dining area was beautiful with stunning ocean views. We were seated by a large party, however our waitress was excellent and never kept us waiting for anything. We started out with some drinks, my husband had a beer from one of the local breweries and I had an excellent cucumber martini(made with gin, just like I prefer). None of the appetizers appealed much to us, so we decided to start out with the baked onion soup and a chopped salad. I have had better salads, this was good but not outstanding. The soup was also good, but very rich and neither of us wanted to fill up on it, so we only ate a small amount. Our waitress noticed this, and insisted on removing it from our bill, even though we did not ask her to do so and would have been fine paying for it. For our entrees, my husband had the chicken and I went with the 6 oz filet, both of us selected mashed potatoes for our side. My steak came out perfectly cooked to medium rare. I let my husband try a bite and he immediately said that he wished he had gotten a steak as well. The mashed potatoes were simple, with nothing fancy added like many steakhouses like to do. Sometimes simple is good though! I could not tell you what the bill for our meal was, but the menu prices were in line with other upscale steakhouses. After sightseeing and snorkeling in the ocean all day I was really looking forward to this meal, and Azul did not disappoint. I would absolutely go back, and recommend to others.

Came here from a long drive from Sunnyvale for a wedding. Lived in San Diego before & enjoyed spending time in La Jolla but never got a chance to dine here until now. The view from our corner was awesome! Blue water, warm sun, you can even watch the swimmers & seals from your table. We ordered the NY steak & Ribeye, med rare. It didn’t look med rare but after taking a few bites, the flavor was delicious & the meat was tender. The butter was a good start(tasted like fennel & dill mixed into the butter); the Cesar salad & Mixed greens salad were a good portion and all orders came promptly. The outdoor lounge was very cozy. My husband & I don’t drink wine so we just ordered tea & soda. Our bill came to &95 for two with taxes. Our meal and the view hit the spot perfectly. I would come here again in a heartbeat.

My boyfriend and I had a mini weekend getaway to San Diego for our anniversary and we chose this spot for our dinner. We had a reservation for 7:30PM on Saturday but because it was prom night for the local high school kids, we had to wait more than 30 minutes. It was okay though because we had snacked before so we weren’t dying of hunger. I usually get very cranky if I’m hungry. We were seated inside the dining area with an extremely nice ocean view. Unfortunately, we had already missed the sunset, but those are anticlimatic anyways. We started with a bottle of Cabernet recommended by our waitress and I ordered the filet mignon with mashed potatoes and my boyfriend got the rib eye. For some reason, there are 2 separate orders of rib eye on different parts of the menu, one at about $ 35 and another at $ 70. My boyfriend had meant to order the cheaper one but supposedly our waitress put in the order for the more expensive one. We were surprised when we received the check but once we told our waitress, she was more than happy to change the price to the cheaper one, although he had eaten the more expensive one. Funny thing is he thought my $ 35 filet was much tastier than the $ 70 rib eye. We left our waitress an extremely generous tip for being so helpful and understanding. She also gave us a free brownie with ice cream on top because we had told her it was our anniversary. Very good experience and will definitely come back if I’m in the area!

5STARS for Happy Hour! Best tip I can give you~it’s Happy Hour all day on Mondays… ~SMILES Sit on the patio or bar where you can enjoy this HH specials for only $ 7. I’ve had the following: AHITARTARE with sesame ginger dressing, MEATLOAF&MASH garlic mashed potatoes w/mushroom sherry sauce, BERKSHIREPORKCHOP with port shallot demi-glacé mashed potatoes, STEAKFRITES with house-made steak sauce(yummy) and CREMEBRULEE. I’ve visited Azul several times now and each time my food was prepared to my liking. I don’t eat fish let a lone raw fish and the Ahi Tartare was really good. This is my to go place when I want a quick fix of good and quality food for such an economical price. Great service, great food and great company = Happy ME…

Happy Hour Review — $ 7 until 7pm happy hour. I think the happy hour was from 5 to 7pm and they have other specials depending on the day. Azul Mule: Vodka with Ginger Beer. I had 2! Ahi Tartare: it was decent. Rock Shrimp Frito Misto: popcorn shrimp with a few veggie tempuras on the side. Strawberry Shortcake: AWESOME!!! The restaurant is right on the oceanfront but the outdoor courtyard where we sat didn’t have an ocean view. I believe the ocean view is for people who are there to eat a full meal. Happy hour is only at the bar or courtyard. Overall I had a great time and would definitely recommend stopping in for their happy hour.

Continues to be one of my fave places for HH. Met up with another couple to introduce them to the happy hour and wine tasting event. Since I was early, my friend Will, the Sommelier, greeted me and we conversed a little about the featured wines: –Roederer Estate(Sparkling, Anderson Valley) $ 40 bottle –Cupio ’04(Brunello Di Montalcino, Tuscany) $ 80 bottle –Cuvelier Los Andes(Malbec Blend, Mendoza, Argentina) $ 50 bottle –Château Montelena(Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa) $ 25 glass/$ 80 bottle — This was the best wine out of all!!! YUMMMMMMMM!!! We sat on the patio under the heat lamps, which was perfect for wine, appys and great conversation. Ordered off the $ 7 till 7 menu: –Steak Frites: It’s a given… –Chicken Skewers: You get 4 skewers and the chicken was really tender. A nice appy to accompany your drinks and to share. –Mule: Refreshing, but too bitter with all the ginger! –Pineapple Upside Down Cake drink: So delish!!! Tasted like pineapple!!! REFRESHING!!! Service was outstanding as usual, and the staff is really personable and considerate. Love coming here! This will definitely be a monthly ritual! We even caught a celebrity sighting — James Carville!
