I’m a fan of the chicken bowl and plate. I’ve tried the steak, but it always seems a bit chewy, but is not bad by any means. Magic sauce is excellent.

Flamebroiler is a chain. As such, the appeal is that it is utterly consistent no matter where you — the same tasting chicken, the same tasting sauce, the same rice, the same veggies, etc. As such, there isn’t much to review. The flavor all taste the same — it’s the same bland chicken grilled and thrown with veggies over rice with sauce to compensate for the void of flavor. So eat here if you want to be somewhat healthy — after all, the lack of flavor seems to indicate that there is less sodium and the veggies and rice are better than fries and onion rings. Get a ton of sauce to get some flavor and you have what replicates teriyaki chicken. For the same price. TL;DR Eat if you must; eat if you stuck.

Fast Fresh and Flavorful! Steamed Veggies, Char Grilled Meats, and Rice… Simply Amazing and I really wish we had one of these on every corner in the STL Metro Area! THIS is the type of restaurant that should represent fast food!

The food is fast and always pretty good. The vegetables don’t taste superb and the meat is only ok. But, who am I to complain at $ 6 for a big bowl.

This is by far one of my favorite places to eat. If you’re looking for something healthy and affordable this is the right place to go.

Wow what awful quality chicken and beef. It was like chewing jerky will not be back. The sauces were good all else sucked.

Are you looking for a quick, healthy and inexpensive lunch or light dinner? If you’re in a teriyaki bowl kind of mood and don’t feel like cooking and/or trying to figure out what you want to eat. This is a good place for something quick and healthy. I’ve been to a few locations. Each location is minutes off the freeway. Been going here for many years, prior to being on Unilocal.Great place for a quick lunch if you’re in the area. Private parking lot shared with other businesses. Outside patio seating only. I always get the same bowl. It is called«The Works.» It comes with half teriyaki chicken, half beef, steamed rice with veggies and garnished with scallions(green onions). I usually order this bowl with brown rice; more veggies and less rice. They are pretty good with accommodating to your dietary needs. Just make sure you specify when you order. They have yummy«Magic Sauce»(teriyaki sauce) that brings out the flavors of your bowl. Their hot sauce has just the right kick. I haven’t tried their hot hot sauce, but I’m sure the name will speak for itself. They have fountain drinks and Gold Peak Iced Teas. This is one of my favorite, quick and easy healthy fast food stops.

Sign on door says opens at 11:00 on Sunday(as does Unilocal). Guy on the inside says 12:30. Wasted a drive to here. Out of principle I will not eat at this location anymore. Aren’t poorly run franchises the best? Rubio’s next door thanks you.

I literally just reviewed The Frame Broiler in Mission Valley, so I decided to review this one, as well. The La Jolla location is exponentially smaller than the Mission Valley location. Your only option for seating are the tables that are outside. Inside is just where you order, get your drink/sauces, and utensils. I got the mini half and half bowl which filled me up! My only concern was that it took an extremely short amount of time for my food to come out. Of course when starving, receiving your food quickly is a good thing! But pretty much as I was paying to order, the chef walked out and looked at me for a second, then next thing you know my food was out. It made me wonder if it was pre-made or just heated or what? It was good, and tasted fresh, though… I probably would come back because it’s so cheap and filling and convenient because I go to UCSD, but the location is a tad dirty.

Every time I’m in Cali I go here. Simple rice bowls of beef, chicken & rice but add a mix of the hot and magic sauce, it becomes a crack bowl. So effin good I’m hooked on the bowls, I could eat here every day.

Great option for fast food. A perfect solution when your trying to feed your kids something that isn’t so bad. It comes out fast, again waiting with kids every second counts. I love that it has lots of veggies, the chicken is always tasty and there is an option for white or brown rice. They even have vitamin water on tap :)

I swear I just go to this place for the Magic Sauce. Sauce with a side of chicken! Just kidding. If I have to eat on the go and trying not to eat horribly, I would prefer this than going to the food court in UTC if I need to stay in the area. I mean, I admit the portion you get is less than that one Japanese grill in UTC. The chicken quality is pretty decent. I think this is like a college staple if you want to get away from campus food since it’s down the hill from the UCSD campus but the parking lot is tiny.

I’ve been curious about this place for a while, I go to the Whole foods that is in the same shopping center on occasion for lunch-but Whole Foods tends to be pricey in case you didn’t know. A-ny-wayz, I went today for the first time, got the chicken veggie bowl– which comes with chicken(obviously) veggies(brocolli, cabage & onions) and your choice of brown or white rice. I chose brown. This came out to be about 6.50…something similiar at Whole foods comes out to be between $ 10 – 12. Overall it was tasty, I wouldn’t classify the chicken to be very high quality. I would definitely request more veggies as opposed to chicken and rice — I like filling up more on that. Was a bit salty. Healthier then most fast food chains. Fast service, employees were nice. I would recommend this place when you’re on the go, craving it & want something not too expensive.

Big fan of Flame Broiler, I love stopping by and grabbing a chicken bowl for lunch really quick. I’ve never visited any of the locations besides the one in Mission Valley. I was in the area doing some work and was stoked to see they had a location near by in La Jolla. This location is inside the strip mall that Whole Foods and BJ’s restaurant is in. It’s really hard to call it a strip mall, more like a mega strip mall. The parking in this place gets pretty limited around lunch time. Luckily this Flame Broiler opens early at 1030( ) so you can beat the lunch crowd. This location has no dine in seating area as all the tables are outside and its simply a cashier area where you order your food and grab your drinks. They have Vitamin water of all things on tap here( ), which I haven’t seen before. Just like the other locations they have their«magic» and«hot» sauces up front where you can grab little cups of it to pour on your food. The hot sauce being my favorite, the magic sauce is a little bit too sugary for my taste. The chicken veggie bowl here( ) was on the smaller side compared to the other location. They seemed like they didn’t want to pack enough stuff in there. Usually the bowls are overflowing when you take to the top off. As you can see though, this location doesn’t like giving you your money’s worth of chicken, they were pretty damn skimpy on it. They also kinda lacked on steaming the veggies, as some of the broccoli had a little too much crunch to it. In my humblest of opinions, I think the Mission Valley one serves up way better food and gives you your money’s worth. Also, if its raining you won’t be able to sit and eat your food because of the only outside seating.

This is a great place for a nice healthy alternative from the everyday fast food place. Their proteins(chicken and beef) are all grilled at their location and they also offer the choice of white or brown rice. Their magic sauce is in the name… MAGIC! A little can go a long way so just keep that in mind, but man, what they’ve done here is happiness.

Flame Broiler really needs to change their source of meat. The beef is probably the lowest cheapest grade beef you can get and the chicken is pretty bland, both meats have awful texture. I swear their meat wasn’t like this back when I was in high school and college. Please go back to your old ways around like 8 – 10 years ago. Change your source of meat, raise the prices a little bit higher if you need to. Go back to your old ways of being the beef and chicken bowl king!

Hard not to like a place that’s quick/cheap/filling in the UCSD area. I was looking for something to grab and go and found it here at The Flame Broiler. Rubio’s had a line out the door but this place was a simple walk in. I ordered then two minutes later I had my food. It actually took longer to fill up the little plastic cups with additional sauces than to order and receive my lunch. There was a lot of rice, veg, and protein for the price. I couldn’t even finish it! — Parking here sucks.

I ordered the half and half(Angus beef and chicken), which is around $ 7. My friend and I both agree that the meat to rice ratio could be higher, but then again, we are carnivorous beasts. Btw, The chicken definitely tastes more flavorful than the beef. You also have the option to choose bwtween white or brown rice.(Go for brown rice. It tastes just as good and it is more nutritious) There is also this magical black jizz sauce that is titled«magic sauce». Dont get weirded out by the sketchy label, as it is indeed quite magical(aka teriyaki-ish soy sauce). The plastic containers for packaging the sauce were so small, I ended up pumping full four containers. Little did I know that I only needed only two max for my bowl. The magic sauce is really salty, so a little goes a long way! Two max or face the consequences of hypertension and cardiac arrest. Overall this place is where I go when Im hard core studying and I dont want to cook food or binge on mexican. Its a much healthier alternative and the taste and price are not too shabby. Solid 3⁄5!

Heard great things about this place and it was surprisingly better than what I expected! Came here on a Friday evening with friends for dinner. Pros: –Good portion sizes! I’m a carnivore… and the meat for the«plate» was great! The salad and oranges complimented well if you needed a light refresher on your taste buds. –food was the perfect temperature! –They have a «magic sauce» and«hot sauce» pumps on the side. Get them! Adds an extra kick to the meat and rice. Cons: –Service was slow. Small location but it seems like the cashier had too much on his plate; he could use an extra pair of hands. Reminders/tips/things: –Choose between white or brown rice! –there is also jalepeño if you wanted to kick it up a notch. –outdoor seating! This is a small location so either grab-n-go or eat outside! Overall, would come here again for a quick meal! A solid three stars. We ordered: 1) «The Works» plate 2) «Angus Beef and Chicken» Plate(add an extra $ 2.75 for white chicken)

Average in taste, but fast and healthy. Brown rice is an option. I like how this place doesn’t slather their food with sauce ahead of time. Instead, they have a condiment station, in which one can add teriyaki sauce, soy sauce or hot sauce at one’s own discretion. Space is very limited, so you have to maneuver around people or just wait to add sauces or get your drinks. Since the area is so small, you end up smelling like barbecue, if you’re waiting inside for your food.
