Horrible, dishonest, unfriendly, takes advantage and rips you off.
Unfortunately, I did not read Unilocal before I went to this salon… and now I regret it terribly. I went through a very stressful time, which showed very much in my hair… it fell out and broke off. I was at a point that I couldn’t even do it myself. I decided to make an investment and get hair extensions for ‘peace of mind’ and hopefully help me grow out my hair. I checked this salon’s website and was so impressed by all the ‘success’ stories. There were people in the same situation as me that looked amazing after the extensions. I went in for a consultation, explained my situation and after talking to Shelly, the owner I was so excited to get my extensions and have a place that would work with me to get my hair back in shape. I was quoted all the pricing for the extensions and then after my initial appointment was quoted pricing to get my hair blown out twice a week. Shelly, the owner, told me she didn’t want to ‘steal’ me from my previous salon, but they’d love to do all my services there. I thought since they knew how to work with extensions this would be the best and I tend to be very loyal for years to a good salon.
I went to this place for 6 weeks, first the extensions that were $ 800 (I gave her a 20% tip on top of this… you don’t have to for owners but I did… so $ 960), then blow outs twice a week for $ 35, then color and moved up the extensions for $ 300. At this point, I have become quite dependent on this salon. After the last color/​move up appointment, I had to go to the east coast for a funeral, so made all of my appointments for when I got back. Late the night before I fly out I got an email from the ‘the manager’, the owner’s husband Patrick, whom I have never met that they just want to let me know that they are increasing my pricing by over 200% of what they have been charging me for the last 6 weeks and would I still like to keep my appointment? I was SHOCKED. What??? So, obviously I had to find another place… and when I do, I will add to this and tell you all a better place to go.
In the meantime, I would not trust going into this place if you want to make a long term commitment with a salon. They are extremely dishonest and screw you over and could really give a shit. I tried to discuss options with them and they were just nasty. I was a very good customer… who would have stayed with them for years and years. I am afraid that they won’t be in business for very long if this is the way they treat customers. Unilocal offers good insight into what you are doing wrong with your business, so hopefully for Shelly and Patrick’s sake they will rethink the way they run their business… especially with all these bad comments. Eeshh.
They are obviously doing something wrong, but its never too late to change your ways. But, for now, BEWARE…

L.S. you should really post at least your first name on here if you are going to come on and insult people. Rude. «Hit and run» review? I would be glad to post the picture of the back of my hair on here to show people what these extensions did to my hair! I think Shelly is a very nice person and she does a very good job on color. However, for the money I spent for hair extensions and the damage they did to my hair, I was DEVASTATED. My hair was destroyed by these hair extensions!!! Stop insinuating I have some vendetta against Shelly and her salon. If you have fine hair, these extensions will break your hair off. PERIOD!

HORRIBLE! The girl ripped me off and took advantage of the situation since it was my first time! she should be ashamed! On top of that she did not even put them in right and her customer service was HORRIBLE

I have now had my extensions done at Advanced Hair Concepts in La Mesa for almost two years now. My hair has gotten so long and healthy using their method… Melinda is the extension/​color/​cut expert truly. And hairlocs don’t damage my hair like Shelly’s glue in ones did. It’s funny how many of Shelly «happy clients» I have seen and heard coming in to my salon with horror stories…

I’ve had hair extensions before and I was excited about getting them again from this salon — which I chose based on Unilocal reviews. I have to wear my hair up for work and I was sad to find that these were very visible to others 95% of the time, and after only three weeks I had to have them taken out. When I called to say that I wasn’t satisfied with the extensions, I was advised to come in and learn how to put my hair up better (the implication being that their visibility was my fault.) I declined and asked to make an appointment to just have them taken out… but this seemed to offend the personnel at the salon, who took them out super quickly (and painfully) using lots of acetone (and whatever else the Hairdreams solution is made of) and then «didn’t have time» to even wash the chemicals back out of my hair!
I think Unilocalers who are looking for hair extensions may be better served by a salon who will take care of you both when the extensions go in… AND when they come out again!
