I want to like this place, but food and drink consistantly fails to impress. This time, Canola was worse I have ever had, with a prevailing freezer burn taste and texture. Black forest cake unremarkable in every way. Dry cake and an uninspired crème frosting.

Nice vibe. Especially in the morning-late afternoon. Good for discussion/hanging out with friends. They have okay coffee, but amazing panini. Try the pesto chicken panini

We stumbled on this place while we were out exploring and even though the service was«meh»(our waitress was nice and had awesome Harry Potter tattoos, but she was a little inattentive) the food was delicious. You’re doing yourself a disservice if you don’t order the baklava or the dolmas. Both were amazing!

This is my favorite place ever and I don’t know why everyone didn’t give it a perfect rating. Their blended iced coffee drinks are delicious and come in so many flavors. The Milky Way, a mocha with caramel, is also amazing. Sure it’s pricey but so is every other place in la jolla and the variety of the menu makes it worth it.

The best dang coffee I have had in a very long time! Got the dark roast as a pit stop in La Jolla via the trolley tour near the cove. My bro and I came in needing a java stop and we were both quite impressed with the little venue they have, the menu the offer and of course the surprisingly good dark roast coffee that put Starbucks to shame. I must find more of these places hopefully closer to me in Point Loma so I can have this more often.

So basically I’m not welcome upstairs unless I order a hookah… are you freaking kidding me! I came in with a friend of mine and we were super excited to order some wine and just relax… that is until the waitress came to take our order. After we told her what we want she goes, «You have to order hookah if you’re upstairs»…I really thought she was kidding but unfortunately she wasn’t. Good thing there were other places near by for some good wine :). I will NOT be coming here ever again.

I’ve been here a couple times before and have gotten their acai bowl(one of the best acai bowls I’ve ever had) and decided to come on a Saturday morning around 6:30am to get some breakfast.(Here’s where the star rating goes down) They weren’t open, although it says they open at 6am. I could clearly see that they were inside setting things up, so I waited outside thinking«everyone has those days where they start late». While setting up, another customer came and knocked on the window to ask them what time they were going to open. They COMPLETELY ignored him.(So he left) Another customer came and got the same treatment but persisted to find out what time they were planning to open. Finally they replied«7am». 7am comes around and they’re still setting up. I keep my cool, thinking any second now they will open the door. NOPE. But at 7:05, a man comes and unlocks the door from the inside and walks away. No apologies for opening up late, no «hello», nothing. I go in and order an acai bowl, waffles, ham and cheese croissant sandwich, and a banana mocha freeze. The man working the cash register tells me to pick up the drink at the counter. So I go over to the counter when he calls out the name for my drink and there wasn’t a lid on it. It’s such a simple thing to do, to put a lid on for a customer and yet they failed to do even that. Clearly this place has no care in the world for customer service, which really disappoints me as a customer who thought very highly of this place. If it weren’t for the laid back ambiance, acai bowl, and their banana mocha freeze I would not be going back. Hope this review helps change the attitude of the people that work here because it really is a great place. Over and out food lovers.

Great coffee and fast service! Lots of variety of coffees and teas. The desserts looked delicious although we didn’t try any. I ordered a skinny caramel macchiato, they asked if I wanted that«Starbucks style» so I said sure, since that’s where I normally get my coffee. It was definitely much better than Starbucks! My husband got the banana mocha blended w a shot of espresso, delicious!

The environment is full of energy, I love the flowers on each table. People start conversations there. The peppermint mocha is kind of too sweet tho.

3.5÷5 stars A laid back«living room» style coffee shop that serves tea, espresso, desserts, sandwiches, and other small breakfast and lunch items. On the second story, it has a indoor and semi-outdoor hookah lounge and beer/wine bar. Coffeehouse: I love coming here for a latte and a small bite to eat– especially a breakfast croissant sandwich. Their food is reasonably priced and never disappoints. Their desserts frequently rotate so you never know what you’ll be able to get. The coffee is always made very quickly– sometimes its’ ready before you even find a seat, but the food often takes much longer. It’s often pretty crowded but you luckily just happen to find one spot open just for you. The staff can be very picky and sometimes mean if they see food or even just containers from other restaurants. I’ve had some employees bark at me «YOUCAN’T HAVEOUTSIDEFOODHERE!» while I was drinking one of their lattes. I understand if I was taking up one of their tables, eating someone else’s food and didn’t buy ANYTHING from the Living Room, but that wasn’t the case(all I had was a water bottle), and this lady was gratuitously rude; this has happened on multiple occasions. Aside from occasional rudeness, the ambience is wonderful at The Living Room– it literally feels like you’re inside someone’s living room– most people come here to study and I can see why. Hookah Bar: The best part about this hookah bar– the location. It’s a little pricey for a single hookah but nothing crazy. The semi-outdoor seating on the balcony is nice. However, the staff doesn’t really come around and check on the coals that often(or sometimes ever) and so the hookah can get harsh really quick. Luckily, me and my friends smoke hookah at home so we were able to fix it on our own when it got bad. Also, you have to go down the stairs and into the coffee shop to use the restroom(and if you’ve been drinking, smoking, naturally clumsy, and wearing heels, that can be a tad dangerous). Nevertheless, I still stop by this place every now and then simply for the convenience of its location.

So sad how gross this place got. I was so embarrassed to bring my friend and cousin here. I mean let me start by saying DONOTORDERFOOD. It was horrible. My stomach hurt so bad when I got home. So sad. The falafels were bitter and tasted like it came out of a box. The beef shaweerma was super dry and burnt looked days old. Literally befriending my toilet as we speak ! I swear the only good was the appetizer, the bottles of water and my mediocre hookah that cost 23.00 lol service was nice so that bypassed my undelightful food experience.

I had a great relaxing day here at La Jolla! I enjoyed the facilities because it’s great for doing homework and have some food to eat. Also if you want to take a break and walk to watch beach and seals you can too. If you’re in the area I recommend checking it out and grab a coffee while your there too.

My BF and I stumbled upon this place during our visit to SD and had lunch here. We were pretty surprised how good the food and service was! They had such an extensive menu so it took me a while to decide what I wanted to eat… Ended up getting the shawarma nachos because it sounded interesting and I always wanted to try shawarma. The meat was very tender and good! And the cheese was not those instant melted cheese. they actually melted it so it was still nice and soft even after a while. Also got a hazelnut latte because I needed caffeine. BF had the club sandwich and it was a nice, healthy clean sandwich w/pickles and jalapeño peppers on the side. The prices were very affordable too since everywhere in La Jolla seemed pricey. Staff was very friendly and I liked the interior too. Very cozy and had comfy chairs. Will definitely come back if we’re in town again!

Cool atmosphere on the main strip of La Jolla. Posted a pic of the Monte Bianco Cake that was awesome! Had a latte that beat the heck outta this place’s three star rating. So did the cake. Outdoor seating but the interior is a cool enough atmosphere we chose to stay inside. Next time you’re taking in the seals on the beach, walk a few blocks to check this place out.

Food has improved, but still nothing to come for. Can be a nice study spot, with an ocean view during the day time! Would have been 4 stars if not for the WiFi cutting in and out repeatedly during my last visit.

I have to preface this review by saying that it is for the Living Room as a study space. If you’re looking for a good place to actually get some work done, I don’t particularly recommend the living room. Yes, they have a pretty good selection of coffee and food — these are important if you want to get a lot of work done. I personally had their hazelnut coffee and was pleased. My friend had the mango smoothie, and I thought it was much too sweet. More about the café — the tables are small and the music they play is too loud. Some of the tables kind of rock back and forth — super annoying if you’re writing or typing [so I suppose they’re acceptable if you’re just reading?]. The wifi is also not ideal [at least on the first floor where my friends and I were studying]. It seemed like at any given moment, one of our computers’ wifi was not properly working — again, not ideal if you’re trying to get a lot of work done. Although I do have to say that it severely limited the number of times I checked Facebook. Overall, the atmosphere was not all too conducive to working, although their selection of drinks, food, and location is pretty good. I personally would not come here again to study.

This place is really fun if you like to smoke a hookah. Great location and great staff and service. Love going there when I visit SD. I’d say it is more for a younger crowd especially the upstairs level. However, they also have very good sandwiches and pastries as well. Not sure, why some folks have wrote some bad reviews but this place is fun and relaxing and every time I visited(total 4 in 10 days) I experienced a great and friendly service. Bottom line they don’t need reviews to be busy they are doing well. Highly recommend if you want to lounge somewhere in La Jolla have a drink and smoke a hookah, cigar or cigarette… I will miss going here. I would only give it a five star if the interior was little bit more updated. Not that it is bad or anything but little bit newer and fresher would be really nice!!! They are open till late 2AM. Have fun!

This is my second time here and it can get quite busy on a Saturday afternoon with spurts of a long line going up the stairs and out the door. The menu is quite large with lots of things to choose from. They have sandwiches either hot or cold, breakfast items, quiche, pizza, and salads. I ended up getting the beef shawerma plate that came with a salad. It was ok, the meat was nothing to brag about but the salad and dressing was quite tasty. I also got a brownie and an iced chai latte which were both really good. The display case of desserts looked heavenly and i will definitely come back for a salad, drink and one of those decadent desserts.

Being opened on Christmas Day was a good thing, but serving average and bitter coffee was not a good thing. It was the coal in my stocking indeed. Anyways, I stopped in and ordered a medium house drip coffee and their Ultimate Bagel Breakfast sandwich for a quick breakfast. I don’t understand why they call the bagel sandwich the«Ultimate» because it was okay and came with only spinach, egg, tomatoes, and feta( ). I mean, add some bacon, ham, and perhaps some mushrooms, then call it «Ultimate.» As it was, it was okay. It would of been better if they would of seasoned the eggs better and not scrambled all the ingredients together, especially the tomatoes because it left the scramble on the watery side. I did however appreciate the good amount of fresh spinach in the sandwich and flavorful feta( ), but seasoned those eggs and keep that moisture out of the scramble please. Like I said early, I was not a fan of the drip coffee. Up front it was okay, but in the end, it bit with some unpleasant bitterness. The filters may may need to be cleaned or changed. Service was pretty good at the ordering counter and the ladies who delivered the food to the tables were very nice.
