Overpriced items but it’s convenient. ALTHOUGH, the thing I loveee to get is the $ 0.99 cent ice cream scoop. :] Cheap and soo worth it for the dining dollars.

I’ve been living in Warren College since my first year(September 2012) and Earl’s has been my life saver every time I have an urge to eat something! Earl’s is one of UCSD’s mini markets on campus. They take dining dollars(a swipe-per-item system), credit/debit card and cash! Earl’s is known for their popular smoothies(they are pretty good!) and their good coffee! Perfect for late night studying! Earl’s has definitely expanded over the years! The manager really asks what students want, so they bring it to Earl’s every time they have to replenish the shelves! Recently they added Quest Bars… my recent addiction! They have also added Kind Bars, Luna Bars, Gatorade bars… a good mix for the grab-n-go! They also have a good variety of cereal(munching on Reese’s as I type) and have popular brands like Honey Nut Cherrios, Honeycomb, Kashi’s, Raisin Bran, etcetera… In the back by the chips, the fridges have a huge selection of drinks! Milk, soymilk, Rockstar, Redbull, Pepsi, Cola, Zero-Calories, Honest Tea… you name it! The fresh produce selection, though small, is also quite useful. There is always avocados, garlic, oranges, apples, mangoes, onions, green onions… they also have salads on the go, yogurt on the go, sushi on the go! Overall, Earl’s is a great place during the school year and and a good place to splurge if you have too much dining dollars. Though prices are a little ridiculous(almost double of Ralph’s…) but we pay for the convenience and it is technically not«real money» since Dining Dollars is UCSD’s own currency.

This was the spot to be for some late-night snack runs for midterms or coffee. Being from Warren, running here for a ton of snacks was the death of my meal points. It’s like a mini-mart with frozen food, drinks, chips, candy, coffee, medicine, etc.

I can definitely see how this place is convenient for students. They carry all the necessities — it’s like a mini supermarket located adjacent to the on-campus dorms. They carry household items, cooking supplies, fruits and veggies, drinks, frozen foods, etc. They even serve Starbucks coffee! Students pay with their dining card. I tried their green tea latte and while it was good, it wasn’t what I expected. I expected my usual Starbucks matcha green tea latte. While I’m sure they brew Starbucks items, I think they used a combination of matcha green tea and some sort of green tea bag, so my latte tasted less grassy and more floral(FYI, I prefer grassy). Overall, it was definitely a foreign environment for me, as I’m not a UCSD student, but this place seems pretty convenient and I know my brother is a fan and frequents here.

Friendly service, good selection, great hours(unlike the dinning halls), very convenient, and good food. The only downside is the high prices.

I loved getting random ingredients from here when I lived on campus! Great selection of organic odds and ends from cocoa powder to facial masks. All my unused dining dollars went to earl’s.

THE +‘s: lots and lots and lots of cool and funky stuff — from stationary to spices to artsy fartsy greeting cards. a great café hang-out atmosphere and opens till late. for ucsd students, meal points can be used here so earl’s is a great place to cash out at the end of the quarter for a ton of fun stuff. also — The Best Vietnamese Iced Coffee Evar, cuz they pour in a shit ton of condensed milk. YUM. THE -‘s: itsa small footpoint. be prepared to squeeze through aisles when browsing. during late nights, seating is usually full inside. this sucks in winter cuz, imma tell you, yer ass freezes on the benches outside. things are pretty pricey as well… and the scary part is, when you’re spending points, you don’t realize how much more you’re paying for a packet of fancy envelopes. SUM: i like stationary. and lava lamps. and blankets. and coarse-ground pepper. which means i’ve sometimes skimped on regular meals just so i can have enough points to buy that kinda totally unnecessary and yet totally entertaining Stuff. if nothing else, hiking to earl’s from freaking revelle on a cold, winter night is the stuff that makes memories.

If you live at Warren College then you are VERY lucky to be so close to this treasure! –Meal points can be used here(as well as cash) –It’s open late at night(after the cafeterias are closed) –It is like a mini grocery store with food, cards, and fun items(little gift type stuff), etc. –You can also purchase larger items online(both food & non-food items) ~~~I actually had some meal points left over when I lived in the on campus apartments so I spent the rest to buy a blender for the next year… smoothies, margaritas, awesomeness! –You can also order coffee and smoothie type drinks that they make there –The atmosphere is pretty chill with great music playing –Staff is also chill and friendly –Great vibe Only con is that everything is over prices however it is all about convenience and supply & demand.

Everything here is super overpriced but it’s open late, it’s almost like a grocery store, AND there’s an online catalog you can order off of(also a super big rip off) if you have extra meal points so you don’t have to waste it! So that’s super nice! There’s also always really weird things sold here… so it’s kinda just to browse around and look at all the weird stuff here…

Buy stuff with meal points? Hell yeah! I would purchase all this costco stuff online, and then use my meal points. No wonder I had no food by the time spring quarter rolled around.(sigh…i miss UCSD)

Being a hardcore Earl’s fanatic makes my five-star review a LITTLE biased, but listen to what the other Unilocalers are saying! The atmosphere is amazing in every way: –the music is selected/put together by the students working, so you always hear new and catchy songs that create an awesome atmosphere –Earl’s is the central«hub» for Warren’s campus, so you will constantly see friends and meet new people through association just by browsing the aisles –The staff are absolutely energetic and enthusiastic(I hear a lot of people work there, so they can select the best), so be prepared to get a sincere/funny/quirky/interesting conversation at the register Yes, the food is overpriced, but that is because the Housing and Dining Services makes Earls pull a HUGE profit to support ALLOTHER dining halls. Other dining halls operate at neutral/a loss, so Earls has to make up for it. And anyways, would your rather spend your meal points(which disappear anyways) on fattening dorm food or the sweet experience of Earls?

2.5 stars is unacceptable. I can’t imagine a place that would make me more proud to go to UCSD. UCSD students often feel trapped on campus. Coming from ERC without a car, let me tell you how much I needed this Earl’s Place. When you’re coming back from gospel choir and you need a little pick me up to give you a little studying power… Earl’s place is there till 1am, serving you up a little liquid heaven. When you just realized you have to make a cake for your roommate’s birthday and you’re also strapped for cash… Earl’s Place will gladly take your mealpoints in exchange for that cake mix and frosting. Of course they’ll take your cash, too. When you just want to kick back with your friends and some smoothies, and aren’t in the mood to wait in a long line, Earl’s Place makes a nice strawberry banana one. The employees that work there always seem so genuinely happy to be there, and although the coffee is Starbucks, the place seems very non-corporate. The menu is on a chalkboard with a beautiful design, which always gains points in my book. It’s also nice having school newspapers to read. There’s also never been a line in my experience, and the employees aren’t annoyed with you if you take time on your decision. Which means that asking«hmm…what do you have that’s warm, caffeinated, and delicious» or «cold, non-caffeinated, and delicious» won’t offend them. I don’t think, anyways.

Earl’s Place is a gem on UCSD’s campus. It is a café(a cool one at that) it is a grocery store and it has a delectable food menu. I love Earl’s because you can go and sit for hours and on their comfy couches and sip on some of café’s tasty coffee drinks AND you can get your week’s worth of groceries after your visit. You can also make on-line orders from Earl’s and drop by to pick it up later. The location of Earl’s is kind of isolated because it located on Earl Warren’s campus which is aways away from all the other colleges, but the location is also a benefit because Earl’s Place never gets to crowed ed. Also, Earls is open late, it stays open till 1 a.m. which is rare thing on UCSD’s campus. Earl’s Place is one UCSD’s best kept secrets.
