Not sure how this place is still in business. I almost never see anyone in line during rush hours, especially when compared to Burger King, Tapioca Express, Subway, or Panda Express. I’m sure it was not their intention, but their curry always comes out super runny for me, and thus a disappointment. So runny that I would in fact call their curry«soup» instead(and not the good kind either).

Literally the worst tasting Indian food I have ever had. I love Indian food and this is a sad sad joke.

When all the other places at Price Center have huge lines, Bombay Coast remains relatively clientele-free. The times I’ve visited, the people working the counter look lackluster and slop the food in without much enthusiasm. I don’t know why they’re so stingy/strict with their portions when it looks to me as though more than half the food they prep must wind up in the trash at the end of the day. As mentioned in other posts, the sauce to actual food ratio is kind of questionable. If you get the Indian boiled egg as an entrée they literally give you just one effin egg. I’m normally a huge fan of saag paneer but I cannot bring myself to order it here because when my friend got it I could see by the texture that it was more water than spinach. Overall pretty disappointing for quantity, quality and service.

Portion sizes are inconsistent — usually the entrée portion is kind of small, but sometimes I’ve gotten huge portions of the entrée that make enough for 2 meals. Sometimes the curry is lukewarm. I like their mushroom curry, but their saag paneer was kind of gross. Chicken tikka masala was ok if you’re into sweeter curries. A lot of the curries here tend to be watered down, and a lot of times the flavor seems to be lacking in something. I really like the naan though! Customer service is average. I love Indian food but this place kind of disappointed me. After trying a couple of their different entrees, I don’t think I’ll be buying from here very often… I’ll come again only if I’m seriously craving Indian food.

I love Indian food and this place is located on a campus in a food court so I didn’t expect much, but it was worse than I imagined. The chicken tikka masala tasted like a tomato threw up on an old piece of chicken and the mango lassi tasted like sour milk with a hint of artificial sweetener. Stay away from this place…

This place, to be frank, is constantly disappointing. The rice is dry and not fresh. The portion sizes that they give is small. Just a bunch of rice. The taste of the food is also unsatisfactory. The naan is a hit or miss but mostly a miss. Its usually hard and old. The garlic naan is NOT worth the extra $ 2+ the garlic is not cooked so the flavors arent infused. Theyre always low on their salad. I would say though that their green sauce is good. But other than that… sorry

My first year at UCSD I truly enjoyed eating at Bombay but an encounter with the guy wearing glasses(cashier I’m assuming) kind of ruined it for me. I had asked him for more mint julep because the container was no longer filled, he said, «okay just wait until I finish with these customers»(while 2 of the workers were just standing around doing nothing, why couldn’t they have helped?). Anyway, so as I am waiting I stand to the side, kind of near the condiments and he says to me ‚” I will call you when it’s there, I don’t want you standing there”(as if I was in the way of customers, which I was not). not to mention he had mumbled something under his breath… So I had walked away, told him that he was taking too long, then he FINALLY comes out with the mint julep. No concern whatsoever of me standing there for 5 minutes waiting when this action could’ve taken less than a minute. The service here is not that great, the guy with the glasses(short, black hair) is not friendly at all and I will definitely not be returning to Bombay.

I’ve had Indian food twice before, but I don’t recall what I ate or how it tasted. While on campus, I randomly felt like eating something different than usual, so I went to Bombay. Not to mention, their line was the shortest in the Price Center. I feel as if the customer service is not actually there, especially from the guy who is at the cash register. He seems as if he has a strict script, and forces his customer service just because Unilocal states that this place has no customer service. He even looks uncomfortable as he smiles – it’s a little odd. With every entrée comes rice and a naan(flatbread). I got the 2 item entrée, and I chose the chicken masala and the chicken tikka masala. Both were good, but I feel as if the sauce to meat ratio wasn’t the best. In comparison to other Indian places, I can’t say because I forgot. As for this place in itself, I’d give it a try if I were you, but I probably wouldn’t come that often.

I remembered the first time I ate at Bombay, it was during spring quarter of my first year at UCSD. My friend told me what it was, and I decided to give it a try since I love Indian food/curry in general. This place has 3 main«meal» plans. –Meal 1: mix and match vegetarian and meat entrees(3 items) –Meal 2: 2 entrée(mix and match) –Meal 3: 3 entrée vegetarian They also serve entrees as a single«meal» and that is priced differently as well. Each meal comes with it’s own piece of naan and a heaping serving white rice. I’ve tried almost everything here, and I don’t like to say this, but after a while everything just starts tasting the same. Pros: –Quick service. Since there are so many other eateries competing against Bombay, the lines are always short. Even during«rush» hours, you don’t have to wait more than 10 minutes. –Unlimited cabbage salad/sauces. This is probably my favorite part about Bombay! I’m never full from the other three entrees, so I had on a heaping pile of vegetables. Cons: –Small portions of actual entrée. I understand that they give you more sauce to dip your naan in and have something to mix with your rice, but I also want extra texture in my food! I feel like half the time I can use one small spoon to pick up all the food in the curry(peas, potatoes, chicken…) –Service is mediocre. Nothing to special, and nothing too bad. Although sometimes they do tend to give less when there are too many people in line. Tips/Observations: –Stamp card! If you are a frequent diner, you have to ask for a stamp card. This was probably the incentive to keep me coming, since it’s quick and I guess at the end you can order whichever meal you want if you accumulate 9 stamps! –They don’t refill their cabbage everyday. I came here on a weekend, and asked them to refill the cabbage. The lady told me they didn’t make any more, and that they only refill when it’s completely out. Overall, if I wasn’t craving curry, I try to avoid Bombay. It’s quite pricey considering all that you are eating is carbs and more carbs… but I guess it suffices for something on campus!

Bombay is a decent Indian place at UCSD price center. They have several types of curry like Chicken Tiki Masala or Chicken Masala, and also Tandoori Chicken. You can choose between a 2 entrée or 3 entrée mix and matching between meat or vegetable sides. They come with a serving of rice and also a naan bread. Also, they have free salad on the side. Overall, the taste is decent. Nothing special.

I felt yucky after eating here. Might be because I’m not used to it; to each his own.

Not exactly my favorite place for Indian food but since it’s on campus and convenient, I go here! The meat curry aren’t as spicy or full of flavor. However I do love their occasional mango chicken masala! It’s a bit on the sweeter side than their chicken masala or chicken tikka masala. The veggie curry I usually get is the Baingan bharta! Super delicious and has a spicy kick to it! :) Their naan is mediocre. It’s extremely thin in the middle. It’s some what oily at times. I really hate their Togo plates. It’s made out of paper so it gets moist pretty easily. Plus they don’t have take out thank you bags :(. I just walk over to Tapex to take some. The combo #2(veggie and non veggie curry): $ 8.10

If you’re picky about your Indian food and/or you expect a lot out of your food, this isn’t the place for you. If you’re looking for a warm, filling option for lunch however, then go ahead and give this place a try. Granted, this isn’t authentic Indian food(honestly trying to find food authenticity on campus is a bit of a lost cause anyway) and it’s watered down from what you’d expect from the hearty flavor and consistency of the cuisine it tries to mimic. Also, the food isn’t visually appealing — it even looks a bit gross especially with the way the servers«graciously» dump the food in the box. But I’ve always liked the food here because I don’t expect too much and it’s always warm and makes me full. Tender chicken chunks in the tikka marsala along with the aloo mutter and naan bread — mmm, I really can’t complain. Now, if you want REAL Indian food, get a car or make a new friend who has a car, and drive about 15 – 20 minutes down Miramar Road to Punjabi Tandoor. That’s where shit gets real.

If you really like Indian food this is the right place. I have been eating and cooking Indian curries/food so its easy for me to evaluate. I have visited here more than twice, I must say they have balanced taste of Indian spices. Here seating is limited to 15 – 20 tables its a small restaurant so do not expect much from ambiance but yes its must go for foodies who like hot and spicy curries with mouth watering sauces :-) I have always enjoy food here irrespective of their less space seating or ambiance.

The food here is disgusting. All of the curries are watered down and you can tell. They all taste like nothing. I have had the saag paneer, navratan korma, and egg curry. I have been craving Indian Food ever since I got to UCSD and this is not the place. Do not give this place a chance because they really don’t deserve it. The first time I came here, I didn’t finish just cause it tasted so bad. I tried my best to like it but it was awful. I made the mistake of thinking that they might have gotten better two weeks later but I was wrong. Don’t make the mistakes I did people!!! In terms of customer service, let’s just say they haven’t pissed me off so that’s a good sign but it’s nothing great. I would really recommend you spend your money elsewhere because this place is not worth it. They need to completely revamp their cooks if they want me to come back.

Okay, so I’m a little torn here. I’ve been coming to this place for the past five years, and for the most part, I’ve really enjoyed the food here. I’m no Indian food expert, but whenever I was hungry and craving some food with a little bit of kick and spice — this place did the job for me. And that’s all I needed to keep me happy! Here’s the kicker — two days ago, I came in and ordered my usual: chicken tandoori, mushroom curry, and chicken curry — it tasted fine as usual and filled my belly as desired. However, the next day, I woke up with a massive stomachache and was basically incapacitated from what I believe to be the semi-undercooked chicken tandoori. I hadn’t eaten anything besides Bombay Coast which was out of the ordinary the previous day, which leads me to question the quality of the Indian food that I had. I do recall the chicken to have a slightly softer texture than usual towards the core, but maybe it’s all in my mind. I can never be 100% sure what caused my stomach troubles, but one thing I can say is this: be observant of the food you eat! Because one bad experience with a restaurant you’ve been visiting for years is enough to make you question your life decisions…

The curry is too watery for my taste, but some people still like it. Not the best place for Indian food, just average.

Working at UCSD means I don’t have many options when it comes to eating lunch on campus. Today there was a line at Bombay Coast and I decided to try it. I should have known by the way the worker was schlepping food into the to-go trays that the food would be watered down. I ordered the #2 combo — comes with rice, a side of naan, and 2 sides(vegetarian or non-veg). I ordered the chicken tikka masala and the saag paneer. The saag paneer came with 2 small cubes of cheese and extremely watered down spinach. Kinda gross if you ask me! The chicken tikka masala was watered down too but the curry sauce was slightly thicker than the saag paneer. The chicken was tender and the flavor was acceptable. If you’re going to spend $ 8 at Price Center, you should definitely eat elsewhere.

I only come here when im absolutely in neeed of some spice and im stuck on campus. Not only is it terriblt overpriced compared to their sit down restaurant in clairemont, The curries have like no substance. The chicken tikka masala literally has little specks of chicken and its incredibly sweet. I have to drown it in the spicy chutney just to make it edible. The saag paneer is also okay but barely any paneer! Overall, I only come here when im desperate. And even then, id want a frozen trader joes chicken tikka masala over what this place has to offer.

Can’t believe I am dare to come here again! I got food poison last time I visited here, and I had really bad memory on their food. I think I was too hungry, and the line was short, so I chose here. Otherwise, I won’t risk my life to try the dangerous place like here.
