Fair Muffler Shops

i had many quotes for a new muffler on my wifes 1998 Camray. A friend recommended Fair so I went for an estimate. Not only were they the best estimate, but they fixed the problem in less than an hour with quality work and courteous & honest handling of the problem. I definitely will
the future.

I was greeted and taken care of by Rob when I walked in. He immediately recognized what kind of car I had, even though I have a rare old turbo Mitsubishi you don’t see every day. I came down from the north side of Chicago because they were the only shop that had a 3″ flex pipe in stock to replace the one on my downpipe. Rob was very knowledgeable and professional, work was great and the waiting room was very comfortable with wifi. They will be getting my exhaust work from here on out.

Went to pick up my reimbursement check on 1÷16÷15 from Fair Muffler for my damaged tips. Thanks again Fair Muffler for rectifying the situation.

My impatience led me to this place since my preferred shops were booked. When I arrived here, no customers there with no cars in any bays. I wonder why.
In the end, I needed minor exhaust tweaking done and I was overcharged and the job was done incorrectly. I never felt that there was a customer-​business relationship. They just want your money and on to the next customer.

These people do honest work. As a woman, I have been ripped off by other mechanic shops in the past. I am surprised that they have 12 filtered awesome reviews that are not showing up. Anyways, I always refer these people to my friends and family. MJ and his staff will show me the problem and thoroughly explain to me, that makes me feel confident as a customer that I am not getting ripped off.

I like Fair in LaGrange, IL. I have been going there oh 5 – 6 years years now for installation of brakes that I purchase elsewhere (I like to purchase high-​performance aftermarket stuff). Fair NEVER gives me any problems. Always busy, always prompt, always calls me when the job is finished.
I have heard of good reviews regarding custom exhaust. I am planing on taking my car to fair to have some mufflers/​tips I have purchased welded.
Hopefully they can weld Stainless Steel.

These guys do clean work. Exhaust repairs and Brake work done right. Excellent work. Respectful service.

worst shop ever
i brought my plow truck their ruining and driving in dec 2013 the truck had a problem idling they had my truck for over 2 months almost the whole winter, before i decided to go pick it up … one of the kids that works their was doing burn outs with my truck and smoked my transmission. the owner told me he would take responsibility for the damage and never did. so after i had to pay 850 to a transmission shop the owner gave me nothing but a bill for 580 for the repairs that they made on my truck and its still not right so i am out 1500 for a transmission and a bunch of parts my truck didn’t need. this place is a joke i cant believe they stay in businesses, ripping people off… they are un experienced kids not certified mechanics … they don’t even have one certified mechanic working their … take you car to a real shop with real mechanics that have experience not these kids who will destroy you vehicle .
i hope this helps somebody make a better decision then i did by going their.

During chiberia, a part of the bottom of my car got unhinged due to the crappy snow. I drove my fiancé out to the burbs and he recommended fair muffler. I came near the end of the day and they looked at my car within an hour, even though the place was popping. The best best best part ever… it was a loose heat shield and the gentleman fixed it for free! Will def be back as reliable mechanics are hard to find.

I have always had prompt and courteous service from this shop. They always give me options and none are ever outrageous. I never get an attitude when trying to save money like I do at other places. I always recommend them. It has the feel of an old time garage instead of a chain.

This is actually a full-​service auto repair shop, not just exhaust systems. Dealing with Rob as the customer rep, I’ve been consistently impressed with their fair pricing, thorough investigation of problems, and level-​headed customer care. Not once have I suspected that I was getting deceived or over-​charged, and I’ve had two incidents of their proactively pointing out less expensive alternatives. Highly recommended for all your mechanical auto repairs!

I had a positive experience with Fair Muffler.
My 10 year-​old Toyota Sienna developed a throaty exhaust sound which I suspected was a hole in the exhaust pipe (I think it was after the catalytic converter). I had taken it to Continental Toyota a week earlier (I love their service too!) to replace a leak in the power steering rack, and asked if they could confirm the cause of the exhaust noise and repair it. It was a small hole in the exhaust pipe, but they said that their policy is to replace the exhaust system ($ 600), but recommended that I take the mini-​van to Fair Muffler since they could fix the hole for much less. So, I called Fair Muffler told them about the problem, and they said to bring the vehicle in. I asked when would be a good time, and they said in an half hour (this was about 10:30 AM on a Monday morning). When I got there, I could not find a place to park, there were so many cars already there, so I parked in the only spot left, a handicapped spot. When I went in, I explained where I parked and they said no problem as they would move the vehicle soon. I was skeptical, since there were 5 or 6 bays there, and each one had a car being worked on. However, within a few minutes, my vehicle was on the rack, and the mechanic asked me to come look at the problem. There was a rusty section on part of the exhaust system. He said they could cut it out and replace it with another piece. I asked how long that would take, and he said in about 20 minutes. Well, I sat down in the reception area, and after what seemed like less than 10 minutes, he said it was all done. It was $ 125 plus tax, and warrantied for 1 year. I did not shop around, but the price seemed reasonable to me. So, I would say the service was fast, courteous, and the price reasonable. Time will tell if the fix holds up. I’ll re-​post if there are any issues.

I can’t believe there are such horrible reviews on here about this place! We have been taking our cars here for about 4 years now and MJ has been nothing but honest to us and has tried to get us outta there as inexpensive as he could. I don’t trust anybody else! Remember people, these are new owners and shouldn’t be held to previous owners mistakes…

I don’t recommend bringing your car here, the prices seam very high for what you get and the standard parts rust very very quickly. They mentioned my muffler was rusting and needed to be replaced which they did in 2011 and again in 2009 I asked If it was under warranty and the front desk guy said no, he said it was only a one year warranty on mufflers after double checking the computer. I dug up my bill and it said lifetime warranty. Watch out they lie right to your face. I’ll go elsewhere!

Bandits!
Replaced catalytic converter 2 years ago. Now codes out as bad. Fair did NOTHING for me. A replacement catalytic converter should last 5+ years.
Take your business anywhere but here.

I thought this place was great. I brought a twelve year old car here that badly needed an exhaust system. They did the work for hundreds of dollars less than Midas estimated — and were able to preserve a couple pieces that Midas told me were impossible to save and needed to be replaced to the tune of about $ 300. Looks like solid work and it was done quickly. Customer service is efficient and freindly.
I’ll go back here for other maintanence… not just a muffler, which I will hopefully never have to get again!

A friend of mine recommended Fair Muffler after told him that I suspected I might be getting screwed on the price by a neighborhood mechanic.
Of course, years of getting screwed by dishonest mechanics I thought the same of this recommendation. I get there and MJ says that it would cost $ 65. Compare that to my first estimate of $ 1900!!! MJ was very thoughtful and thorough. He explained that he could fix it but I would need to replace in 2 years. He didn’t have to tell me anything or explain in layman’s terms what was wrong but he did it and has been doing it ever since.
I take my truck and my girlfriend’s car whenever they need repairs and I recommend Fair Muffler to EVERYONE I run into.
One more story: Fair Muffler keeps a computer record of the recommended fixes on your vehicle. I took my truck to get the recommended fixes. Fair Muffler quoted me a price months ago. I return and they tell me that since their supplier lowered the price of the part, they were also lowering mine! I saved almost $ 80.
MJ and the gang at Fair Muffler are the most thoughtful, efficient, helpful, respectful and just greatest people I have ever met! If they quote you a price, I am certain that you won’t find it lower anywhere else.

Maas wouldnt fix my aunts car and sent me here almost 2 years ago. they gave an estimate of over $ 400. needless to say, i went elsewhere. i took it to Car-​one in Bridgeport and they fixed the exhaust for $ 60 and it still sounds better than new.

I see that the guys at Fair commented on my review, but apparently they misread it. The $ 10/​$ 40 I mentioned was indeed from many years back, it has nothing to do with the service I had recently. I was given a choice on my last visit, and did take the cheaper option, but a 15 minute job of welding in two short pieces of scrap pipe onto the existing flex pipe should not have cost $ 120. I’m going elsewhere. I hope Jerry is enjoying his retirement and Jim is doing well.
I noticed the Fair Muffler guy didn’t dispute the old letters they’ve kept posted. Jerry should have kept them.
