I’ve been to Al’s Char House about 10 times. I never wrote a review prior, as I did not have« Unilocal.» I always order the Sirloin steak. Last night was the last time I will EVER go to Al’s. Each and every time my steak was GROSSLY under cooked as I always order Medium Well and each time it comes RARE literally RAW inside. They took it back each time(and normally get it right) but last night was the last time. Took the same steak back — it was BLACK on the outside and still RAW on the inside. They brought back the SAME potato ICECOLD and tried to serve me the same meal. I cut into the steak and again STILLRAW. I told the waiter please take my WHOLE meal back and take it off the bill. This will be the LAST time I visit Al’s Char House. If you like your steaks rare or medium rare then this is the place for you, but anything past that their chefs just don’t understand. Al did not come to the table NOONE apologized for me not even getting a meal(aside from a piece of bread and salad and water); waiter was rude when I made him take it back the 2NDTIME and take it off the bill. He used a «GROUPON» coupon to cover up the chef’s error instead of getting the manager and remaking the whole meal. Very very disappointed and as I said again I will never go to this establishment again.

After I wrote this initial review, they emailed me asking if we could talk and make our experience better. I responded back with my phone number and no one ever called. Shocker!

Honestly I love this place. I am stuffed. Huge serving sizes, I got the filet mignon with mixed veggies and whipped potatoes. Annnnnd a side salad that was delicious. My fiancé had a burger, GINORMOUS!!! ANDDELICIOUS. He had chicken noodle soup – tasted like canned veggies though so ehhh. But I’d still go back any day cos it was that good. I love the décor but for those that don’t(like I’ve seen in some reviews) remember you’re there to EAT. Some walls were a nice brick, some stone. I thought it was pretty cool :) oh by the way blooming onion !

I’m disabled and this was my first time dinning at Als Charhouse. They accommodate the disabled by allowing you to dine upstairs at the Mexican restaurant if you have trouble with all those stairs. The waitress named was Vanessa and she was absolutely AMAZING!!! She was very attentive, pleasant, and informative with the different cuts of steak. She knew her stuff. I have nothing but, positive things to say about my experience. I ordered the 56oz cowboy steak with baked potato, and mixed veggies. The Green Ninja Piña Cola da was excellent as well. I will be returning again.

Went with a large group of people on a Wednesday night, so we basically had the entire side room to ourselves, which turned out nice. Ordered a 16 oz strip steak, with mashed potatos. Steak was made exactly how I ordered it, and very juicy and tasty. Steaks run about $ 30.00, and beers come in giant goblets for around $ 9. Overall the servers that took care of our table were very nice and did a great job.

This is a must go place for fantastic charbroiled steaks and the best sides in La Grange. This is home of the 3 Lb burger. All the dishes are very large in portion, but taste is never comprised. My favorite is 64 Oz steak and the price is right 46 bucks. It feeds 2 people with no problem. If you want to try one of the best steak joints in town please try Al’s.

Read the reviews and decided let’s give it a try and we were not disappointed. They could use a new or cleaner carpet on the stairs going to their front door, which is in the basement. Yes there are lots of stairs and steps so don’t arrive tipsy. Just in case they’ve put wood handles near by when navigating the steps. Angel was our server and she was very good and kept watch over us. Soft drinks and water were refilled promptly. Granted we arrived before the dinner rush on a Friday. We were not rushed at all. I had the Turtle Martini. Very nice, but a little pricey at $ 9.50. Angel delivered a basket of dark bread which had raisins or dates in it and served with a cinnamon butter. That was very good. My hubby ordered a Blooming Onion for an appetizer, and this too was very tasty. Next up was baked French Onion in a crock with a large slice of garlic bread. The stock to the onion soup is heavy and very beefy! Delicious! The garlic bread is pretty darn good and very filling. Since we were early, I don’t think the kitchen was in full swing and our soups were not very hot. Still ok. The baked French Onion can be ordered for $ 2.99 with an entrée. I ordered the Friday special which is Blackened Tilapia. Let me tell you if you are watching your figure the fish and rice is about 3 servings. Accompanying the meals were fresh veggies and those will next disappoint. The carrots were sweet and the broccoli just right. My hubby had the 32 oz ribeye and boy was it tasty and very flavorful. We both also had the side of whipped potatoes which are really whipped with cheese and bacon! Triple yum! So needless to say we had lots of leftovers. Our bill about $ 96 without tip, but it was well worth it!

The waiter was very friendly and attentive. The loaded potato skins were good but needed salt and pepper. I did not care for the raisin bread but my boyfriend liked it. We both did not care for the cinnamon butter. I ordered salad with ranch dressing. The dressing was watery. My boyfriend and I shared a sirloin steak medium well — not much flavor. He enjoyed the vegetables. The rice pilaf was brown with peas — also not much flavor. Thankfully, we had a Groupon.

The five years since our last visit has shown much improvement in the décor and ambiance. The old worn booths have been updated. The antique western décor is clean and attractive. Food(half slab ribs and lemon chicken) was very good, and half the chicken came home with me, thanks to filling up on delicious dark raisin-nut bread and black bean soup beforehand. We visited Monday evening around 5:00PM, so the place was dead empty. Service was good and food arrived quickly.

I wish I could give more stars, but our experience just didn’t live up to the hype. We just moved to Illinois and have started to see what there is to offer around the suburbs. We are so impressed with the location. The small downtown is so cute with lots of options for dining. Having heard about this steakhouse previously we figured we would give it a shot. We ordered the onion as an appetizer. Half of it was a bit over cooked and the other half was still gooey. We were quite hungry so ate the over cooked half. It is quite large, so the half was more than enough. I let the waitress know, pointing out the two sides just in case there was an issue with their fryer. I ordered the filet medium well and my husband ordered the ribeye medium. He got the Caesar salad and I got the French onion soup, both of which had a $ 2.99 up-charge. The salad had way too much dressing. Usually my husband wants more dressing, but today he couldn’t even finish his salad due to the amount. My soup had lots of cheese, which makes me happy. It tasted a lot like Worcestershire sauce with onions though so I pretty much just ate the cheese. Our steaks came out and my filet was medium rare not medium well. I just asked the waitress for a box. My husband’s steak was cooked medium as requested and he said it tasted fine. The whipped potatoes had a good flavor, and the veggies were fine. The mushrooms my husband ordered with his steak were wonderful. Overall it was certainly not worth over $ 100 for the two of us. I can’t even say we will ever go back. I’m really disappointed about things being undercooked, especially seeing as it wasn’t busy at all. :-(

Waiter was very nice. Drink selection was good. Veggies/salad/potatoes were all good. Prime rib was very tasty, but the filet mignon had to be sent back twice for being under cooked(ordered as medium). That meant one meal was ready to eat about 10 – 15 minutes before the other one. No offer to ‘make it up’ with a discount or anything. I expect steaks to turn out great every time at a steak house like this. I think this place is a little over priced, and décor is outdated, but it was a nice evening out.

Is a nice little Texas cowboy themed steakhouse I very much like coming here to enjoy their large stakes and massive hamburgers! On weekends however I do recommend calling ahead for seating! And parking in the busy area around little difficult and time-consuming how I feel it’s worth the time if looking for a big fat steak! And if you like margaritas it’s a definite order!

I Remember Old Als. Whatever happened last ten years definitely was backwards. Asking for pepper was a problem. wanted to spice up my steak. They bring back water with pepper in it n says –this is pepper sauce… um. no…fire your cook. its, water & pepper. The manager wanted to comp meal. when bill came. no price reduction. I ask for manager and she left already or thats, what they told me. The new manager refused. then u refused to pay for the 3 hr meal ordeal. They phoned manager and comped meal. Never Again… Als is all about gimmi n go.

I came here because I had a Groupon. What a waste of money and time. We ordered a ribeye and prime rib. Both medium rare. The prime was damn near raw and the ribeye was over cooked. I don’t send food back because of horror stories on 20⁄20. So lesson learned will never come here again

Move the bus! Whenever someone mention’s this place to me I’m hoping there is a story with those words in it about this place either that or how Chef Robert Irvine(Restaurant Impossible) come in with his tough love and made them change the menu and showed them how to add some salt and pepper to the food Why on earth do they have a menu the size of a 4 year old is beyond me. The food just didn’t hit the spot for me. Although it was cooked how I asked for it. I didn’t get much taste in my sandwich. Tasted part of friends dish and still wasn’t impressed with this place. The steaks in the front when you walk down the stairs are impressive to look at but I wouldn’t want to spend money to find out if it was the same like the two dishes that I tried.

I chose to came here for a date with my boyfriend based on the Unilocal reviews and we weren’t disappointed. It was either here or Texas Roadhouse. Upon arrival, I was skeptical because my boyfriend is picky about eating at places but he loved the décor and the basement setting. I ordered the 52 oz steak and he ordered a burger. We each paid extra for a little something. I, for a french onion soup, and him for a cheddar and extra bacon. What we weren’t expecting were the portion sizes. For the size my steak was, i guess that’s normal, but his burger was just huge. The steak was cooked to perfection, but my boyfriend ordered his burger medium well, and it looked more like medium. Neither of us finished our meals because of the portion sizes but we were glad to take them home. I took a star off because at first bite, i felt the steak was too charred.

I must say, I was slightly skeptical walking into the basement & gazing at the décor, but don’t let all of that fool you. The matter at hand is good service & good food. Both were achieved during our visit. Our server(I think her name was Carrie) was amazing. She was knowledgeable, friendly & really took her time with us. I had the surf & turf(filet and lobster). Filet cooked medium & was perfectly done I might add. Add the veggies and the side of whipped potatoes, which were absolutely fabulous & you’ve got a completely perfect meal! Oh & the rather large signature margarita for 13 bucks will have you singing their praises walking out the door :) Thanks Al’s, it was memorable!

Stopped in the other day with reservations for 6 p.m., and had a very pleasant dining experience. Seated quickly, with table service immediately afterward. Our server throughout was great, awesome attitude, helpful, friendly, and you could tell she enjoyed what she was doing. I ordered the 8oz filet mignon with baked potato… freaking great. Medium rare just as I ordered, and seasoned to perfection. I never thought an 8 ounce filet would fill me up, but this one proved me wrong. While I only partook in domestic libations, my wife thoroughly enjoyed their signature margarita. Definitely happy we stopped in and checked out Al’s…one of the best steaks around. We will definitely be back!
