If Alexandera was not there to support me and tell me how to manage pain, I would have given into getting a c-section 3 hours in to my labor. But because of her me and my baby survived 30 hours long labor. She is the biggest pain reliever I have ever witnessed. She educated me about so many things before and after my daughter’s birth. I am glad she was with me on my two doctor visits. She could see through my OB from hell. Without her I could make so many wrong decisions.

Without Alexandra, I don’t know how I would have gotten through the birth of my son. She kept her cool when both my husband and I were freaking out and helped steer us through an awesome natural hospital birth. I found her to be a great combination of warm, approachable, and knowledgeable and I’m so thankful she was there to help me.

Alexandra was a wonderful support at our birth. My daughter experienced distress during contractions and a hasty C-section was necessary. Alex was nicely balanced between helping us make sure we were aware of our options, but also letting us made the decisions we felt were best for our daughter. If I had been able to have the natural childbirth I wanted, I KNOW Alex would have helped me emotionally deal with managing the pain of labor. For the period that I did labor, she helped my husband and I stay in the moment, breath, and deal with each contraction as it came. I definitely appreciate her help in the delivery of our child, and recommend her to anyone!

Alex did an awesome job at the recent birth of our first baby. She was so calming, helping to manage contraction pain and reminding me to drink water and stay loose through contractions. Of course every woman’s pain response is different, and we didn’t know what to expect having never done this before. I was prepared to take labor drugs, but with the pain management help we were able to labor at home and arrived at the hospital nearly fully dilated. Our baby girl was born alert and enthusiastic for breastfeeding, and I am recovering nicely due to not needing any interventions. Alex’s services were worth every penny(and her sliding scale fee range is a lot lower than many SF based doulas). She is honest and kind, which is easy to see from her doula blog. She’s also direct with doctors and can be counted on to be your advocate in the sometimes rushed hospital birth environment — for example, she caught my doctor tugging on my placenta, and asked the doctor curtly to stop doing that(tearing of the placenta can require a DNC if part of the placenta remains in the uterus, and pulling on it to force it to come out is absolutely not okay). She also took a birth video for us which, amazingly, has no nudity in it except for the baby. I feel comfortable showing it to friends and relatives of all ages. Although every woman is different and every birth is different, I can’t imagine a more helpful assistant for this scary process.
