Outstanding establishment! The reviews here are a mixed bag but also are very limited. The chips(gluten free) were fantastic and the fajitas were top notch. We had 3 adults with three drinks and three full meals for $ 50. Outstanding area and pretty good food. The ladies that work there are an absolute delight and always aim to please guests! I will definitely come back. It’s a great joint for La Conner genuine Mexican food.

We went there with a party of four. We all ordered different menu items and were very pleased with our food. It was well prepared and well presented. The chips were warm and the salsa was tasty. The staff was friendly and the Margaritas were yummy. I will be going back.

Food takes forever. Still waiting on some more chips and salsa. Found a sticker in our shrimp cocktail. Got our food but still no chips and salsa. Poor service. Food is nothing special at all. It’s okay and not worth the wait. Of course the people here in La Conner eat it up, they don’t have anywhere else to go for this food.

First time here, we were pleasantly surprised. Coming from San Diego, it is difficult to find good authentic Mexican food in Washington. They make their own chips(gluten free) which were so delicious! The salsa was excellent. The crispy taco was great, they actually deep fry the shell rather than use a store bought shell with little taste. The enchilada sauce was just right. Everything we ate was perfect; the rice, beans, guacamole and service was fantastic. We will definitely be back here next time we visit La Conner! Apparently they are under new management as well. Sorry I didn’t take any photos I was too busy eating.

Super nice staff, seated us quickly and was very friendly and attentive. Food and drink orders were lightning quick, and chips and salsa were delicious. We just ordered nachos and a margarita – nachos were pretty good and the margarita was okay but a little over sweet for my taste. A nice little restaurant in a nice little town.

Two stars. The service has never been good. But this last time, the food just was bad. My stepson’s nachos were burnt. Not just overcooked — the chips were dark brown, bordering on black. My wife’s Tacos al Carbon were greasy and tasteless. I knew better than to order anything more expensive than the 2 burrito combination($ 10.99), one pork and one shredded beef. My food was passable(for Mexican food in Washington state), but nothing exceptional. This is why we haven’t dined here more than once a year. Even if you can get past the slow service(10+ minutes to bring a Sangria to the table when there were no other tables when we ordered our drinks), the food just wasn’t any good. Sure, we could’ve sent it back, but we had already waited 25 minutes from the time we sat down to eat. Unfortunately, El Gitano is the only Mexican restaurant within a 10 mile radius of La Conner. But trust me, that won’t stop us next time from driving the 10 miles to get some decent Mexican food in Anacortes. Note: Always check Unilocal’s ‘Filtered Reviews.’ One of the businesses I reviewed has a 1-star rating with only 1 review, but there are 5 ‘filtered’(hidden) reviews averaging 4.8 stars

Fortunately for them I have started to question washingtonians taste in food… so my husband and I thought we would give them a try their close to our. house. My husband got take out for us just smelling the salsa I was surprise and anxious their chips are fresh. This is the first place where I tried their rice and ate the rest. I usually leave it at other places. I got chilli releno and a pork tamale my husband got shrimp diablo. It was good we will be going back

No idea why this place doesn’t have more positive reviews. Service was fast, English wasn’t awesome but honestly if u want real Mexican food then their English ability isn’t important. I went here for the first time today and it was far better than expected. Sure it’s not getting any ambiance awards anytime soon lol, but I go to places to eat good food first and foremost. Salsa was the best I’ve had in a very long time, food was fast, inexpensive, and very good. The food was what I would expect at a $ 15 – 25 a plate establishment, and I paid half that, enough to put the wife and I in food comma bliss for $ 28. If u want a romantic dinner, maybe this isn’t a wise choice lol, but for good quick food that is probably the most affordable option in la Conner, then a top choice.

Cute from the outside, terrible food and service on the inside. We stopped for lunch based on the appearance and location of restaurant. I had chicken tacos. Nothing about the meal was fresh. Taco shells looked like they were from Taco Bell and were dripping with grease, stale rice and beans. Service– inattentive. Waitress walked by our table several times and didn’t notice the lack of flatware, even when she set down our food and walked away. No refills on salsa and chips. The restaurant was not busy.

Sometimes, you get the hankering for a chimichanga. So we went to this Mexican family restaurant for dinner. The ambiance was, um, non-existent. Cheap tables and rundown booths. Speckled paint. I opened the menu to discover it had not been cleaned off, and some food goo(and not a tiny amount either) was still stuck to the laminated menu. Ick. I ordered the«small» chimichanga(and was told there was only one size — so I pointed out both the Large Chimichanga and the Small Chimichanga on the menu) and when the meal arrived, it was clearly large. Huge, in fact. And slathered in runny bean sauce and cheese.(And not slathered in a good way.) There wasn’t anything particularly wrong with it, it just tasted like something I could have made at home. And I’m really not very good at cooking. On the bright side, it was hot and came relatively fast. The server was friendly enough. We won’t be back, though. Just didn’t feel worth the price(and the price was pretty cheap).

Drove past this brightly colored restaurant a couple of times, wondering if I would get the chance to try it. From the outside it looks like one of those cute little family owned places that tends to have good food. As a California native I can be snobby about Mexican food, but this place looked good. Then had one of those funny no one wants to be the one to choose conversations about where to have lunch with the in-laws and ended up here. My Father-in-law said this one is better than the location in Mt. Vernon so we came here, even though we were closer to there. I had chicken taco sald. It was pretty average, though the salsa was excellent. Tasted like the home-made salsa my Mexican friend’s mom makes. They had grilled cheese & french fries on the menu that pleased the 5 year old. It was made with real cheese, not the american processed cheese food. Had the churro for dessert, which was doughy and really yummy. I am having a bit of an overly salted reaction some 2 hours later, but not bad enough to swell my earlobes. I would eat here again, but would try to not have so many of the yummy fresh chips– or maybe ask them not to salt them. The chips were really good, though, fried extra crispy. There was only 1 person working front of house, but he did a decent job of juggling the 6 or so tables of people having lunch. We did have to ask for refills of salsa & soda, but we asked when he came by to see if we needed anything. Definately a small-town friendliness.
