St. Bede the Venerable School

Our children attend St. Bede School and we are very happy with the education they are getting. We initially had our children in the Pasadena Unified School District but moved them to St. Bede last year. Considering we are new to the school, we do not feel it. We feel very welcomed and more importantly our children are very happy at St. Bede. PUSD has great schools but didn’t offer what we were looking for. Our children are not only being challenged academically, they are learning the catholic faith. They are being taught values and character. With so many choices of schools, we feel blessed to be part of the St. Bede School community.

Because we live in La Canada, I knew I could send our children to the local public schools for a great education. We decided on St. Bede, however, because we wanted a school that not only taught academics, but also taught morals, values, discipline and character. The academic environment at St. Bede is competitive and challenging, yet also loving and nurturing. At the award assemblies, children are not only rewarded for their academic success, but also their character and service. Yes, we are confident that our children will be prepared well for high school and college, but more importantly, we are confident that St. Bede will prepare our children for life.

We are parishioners at St. Bede and my wife and her brothers and sister went to St. Bede School, so when it came to our making a choice where to send our first daughter, St. Bede was high on the list. St. Bede has been an exceptional school for both of our daughters. The school’s emphasis on the development of character and a Catholic identity has made a substantial impression on who they are and how they go about their lives. Their academic preparation has been stellar. The school focuses on developing responsible learners, and the fact that nearly all graduates get into their first choice of high school every year shows that they know how to prepare students for high school. Great high schools like Loyola, St. Francis, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, and Mayfield regularly note how well St. Bede students do in high school. It’s been a great foundation.

As a product of public schools, I would have been happy to send my kids to the highly-​rated La Canada schools. But my husband and his five siblings — and their father before them — all attended St. Bede’s and he felt strongly about sending our kids there. Now I know why and I’m so happy with the decision we made. My kids are challenged academically, but more importantly (to me), they’re being taught to be people of character — kind, hard-​working, compassionate, responsible, respectful — which is wonderful to see (and to reep the rewards of at home!) Thanks to the faulty, teachers and other parents contributing to their growth and development, my kids are growing up in a nurturing environment that I could not foster alone as a working mother of three.
If you’re looking for an affordable, academically strong, character-​enriching, catholic education in a supportive community, St. Bede’s is a great choice.

As a student at St. Bede in the 1980’s I was very happy with my experience. I had a large Catholic Family and we all went on to our first choice High Schools. My husband (who is not from CA) and I had no hesitation to start our child in kinder at St. Bede. I lived out of the area for many years, but felt at home coming back. I love that Kindergarten is a full day and my son is doing great academically. He was a little wild when school started but the great staff has been able to get through and have gotten him on the right track. The after school programs offered are also great! The only downside is that the school does not offer a regular Spanish class, just an after school class. Is this school for everyone? No. Are there things I would change? Of course. But there is no perfect school out there, and for our family this is the best choice. As a Catholic I really appreciate that part of the curriculum and the faith that is brought into the lives of the students.

We moved from the east coast and found St. Bede’s as our parish. We then enrolled our kids to this school. Not only are they receiving excellent academic studies, the most important for us is their catholic faith and being a good person in general. Additionally, the best part of the school is the community. Parents have great jobs and don’t just write checks. No matter how busy, everyone makes an effort to be part of their kids lives as well as watching over other Beders. I highly recommend this school to anyone looking for an amazing Catholic education.

My oldest child attended public school the first year we moved into the area. While the school was just fine we just didn’t feel part of a community and felt a bit like outsiders. After hearing good things about St Bede and meeting a few kids that had gone there we were impressed by how they were confident, kind and respectful.
A few years later we now have 3 kids at the school and they love it. The school does have high academic expectations and it does require parents to be involved in the school community but we have made lifelong friends here and I couldn’t imagine my kids going anywhere else.
The kids that exit 8^th grade from St Bede’s are some of the most sought after students by the local high schools which is a testament to the value of the education and life skills they learn from St Bede’s.

We moved across the country and really struggled to find a new school for our children. St. Bede’s school and parish have welcomed us with open arms. The faculty are not only knowledgable but they take a real interest in helping each of their students learn what their gifts are and help them work to their highest potential. My children are getting a superior education in a faith-​filled environment. The administration works hard to make sure that not only are the students using state-​of the-​art technology but the school focuses on best practices from high school, college and business alum to help prepare each class for the next stage after graduating from St. Bede. One of the best parts is that there are many volunteer opportunities so that we can really be a part of our children’s success. We are blessed to be part of the St. Bede family.

St Bede is a wonderful school! It is such a welcoming community. There are so many opportunities to get involved in the school. My kids have grown so much, not just academically, but in their faith. Really happy at st bede!

We feel so blessed to have found the St. Bede Community. We were initially referred to the school by a coworker of my husband’s who is an alumni of St. Bede. We do not live in the La Canada area, so we were not previously aware of Saint Bede the Venerable parish and school.
My husband’s coworker said that St. Bede the Venerable School is «a quantum leap» above the schools we were initially touring in our area. Knowing the source, a man who is a wonderful person (and also a successful graduate of Loyola High School and Yale University) we felt compelled to follow his referral. It was one of the best things that we have done for our family.
I am eternally grateful to be a part of this wonderful and welcoming community. We have found our home in this vibrant parish. The school is nothing short of exemplary. The faculty and the academics are top-​notch. The facilities are impeccable. Beyond all of that, my son is receiving what I believe to be one of the most important gifts that we can give him which is a religious education and a solid faith foundation so that he can grow to «act justly, love tenderly and walk humbly with our God.» With this gift I hope that he will live a truly fulfilled life and be strong enough to endure what life brings him.
