Took lessons here. 156 dollars was a little pricey for an hour and 30 minutes and we didn’t get to surf as long as we wanted. In fact we werent able to keep the boards after for a while to surf on our own(even after 156 dollars) They get three stars because the atmosphere was happy, and our instructor was easy to get along with(Daniel), however I’m disappointed that the training was just a video we watched and the rest were just tips as we rode. Everything comes natural, surfing was easy however I just wished these lessons allowed him to surf with us. In our case we could’ve just watched YouTube videos on our own and rented some surf boards somewhere cheaper. I envision Paul rudd in «forgetting Sarah marshal» when it comes to surf lessons lol so other than the fact that he was boardless it could’ve been better. At least I learned and got lessons in hawaii. Meh

This place is right across the street from Poipu beach, which makes it very convenient. I already had a snorkel, so I just needed fins, they were only $ 3 for a full day rental! Great price and they were helpful in pointing me in the right direction for the best snorkeling.

Grabbed some Vintage post cards and other misc things after being on the beach for a while. Younger guys working but funny and helpful. Honored the sticker pack and got to choose 4 freebies. Thanks guys!

The staff here is pretty chill. When the waves got extremely high(12′-15′) my husband decides he wants to go bodyboarding. It was $ 6 for the board and $ 3 for fins. It was a very convenient location, right next to Poipu Beach, but the quality of boards here are very flexible. If you can’t get one of the board that doesn’t bend, go somewhere else, luckily we got the last one.

My entire family drove into Lihue to rent their snorkel equipment. They had an awesome experience where the owner told them all about the places to go around the island and explore. Also a tutorial on how to put on and use the equipment. My husband and I decided to go into Nukumoi Surf for our items. Mostly due to convenience since we were already at the beach. We were greeted immediately and paid for a week long snorkel rental. $ 20 per person. Tried on the gear and away we went. Gear was in good shape and the staff was friendly and quick. However we didn’t have the experience my family did at where they went. No one explained to us how to use the equipment or provided a map with all the great places to go snorkeling around the island. For the rest of my family who are 1st time snorkelers they would have been disappointed here. But if you are looking for a quick in and out, no hassles and you are experienced snorkeler this is the place for you. Again, you can’t beat the price. The rest of my family paid an extra $ 6 per person where they rented their equipment.

Great spot to rent a high performance surfboard. The boards are epoxy but only $ 8/hour which is a great deal! I rented a board 4 days in a row for just an hour at a time and it was way cheaper than the weekly rate or daily rate. Also the poipu outer reef break is really fun and walkable distance from the shop.

Where to begin? we ended up at Brennecke’s for an afternoon of snorkeling. we had brought our equipment but were one mask short so we rented a mask for just a pittance and set off. They were selling end of season surf boards for $ 50 and used boogie boards for $ 5– so we brought our son(avid surfer from San Diego) down the next day so pick up something to use during our trip– we ended up with just a boogie board but it was perfect. While we were there we bought a few other minor essentials and somehow my daughter mistakenly left her wallet in the dressing room. The owners did everything they could to track us down– even tried to find her on Facebook and instagram! Luckily we were able to retrace our steps and found the wallet, safe and sound at the store. When we got home to SD we even found a message on our answering machine trying to find us! We were happy with our rental, and our purchases, but don’t let these other reviews get it wrong– the staff really went out of their way to try to find us! Thanks for the great service Nukumoi!!!(and thank goodness you print your name and address on your bags!)

Good surf shop, got a really good Aloha shirt here and they have some great Island-specific shirts and hats. Prices are about the same as elsewhere but the service was super friendly!

Great place if you like having equipment practically thrown at you without the employee bothering to show you how to use it or make sure the masks fit properly. The lady helping us had a serious attitude problem and had zero«aloha» spirit. She kept insisting I try to shove my son’s size 1 foot into a size 8 – 11 toddler fin. We happily returned the equipment the very same day and trekked over to snorkel bob’s instead where we received excellent service. Think twice about this place!

Excellent staff. Good prices for rentals and surf lessons. Staff told us about good snorkeling locations and hooked us up with equipment. Scheduled surf lessons for a group of eight. Rented boogie boards too. Satisfied with all.

We loved finding this shop when we were at the beach, and wanted some snorkel gear to get out into the water. Way cheaper than renting at the resort we were staying at, good quality gear, and helpful staff. Walking distance back to both great snorkling and boogy boarding.

Do not rent from this company!!! First of all I am NOT a firm believer that the customer is always right, but here was my experience. I have surfed my whole life and was told that Nukomoi would have a short board to rent instead of longer boards like most of the other rental shops. When I walked up I spotted a 6’1″ Channel Islands Flyer is pretty good condition. So I went inside and told the guy working the counter. He quoted me $ 90 for a week and wrote up a receipt after taking down my credit card Info. When I brought it back a day early the girl working the counter said it was now $ 125 because the board was a «premium» rental. Nowhere was this disclosed to me and the receipt had no $ amount on it which she admitted was a mistake. I voiced my displeasure but she didn’t give in at all. In retrospect I wish I had asked for a manager or maybe even seen if she would/could split the difference. In this instance they have not only lost any repeat business from me but now they get another bad review on Unilocal. All over $ 35 Steve Williams

Very helpful staff, great selection of clothes, inexpensive snorkel rental and right by the best public beach we have ever been to. They also have polarized sunglasses for $ 25.

Well we didn’t go surfing but snorkeling and the staff were great. Helpful and friendly. At $ 6/day you can’t go wrong. I’m nearsighted but didn’t get the RX goggles and I saw just fine! Lots of other items in the store for sale or rent. Right across from the beach and a short walk to the snorkeling area.

Disgruntled mean employees lacking any sort of customer service. We went to Nukumoi to rent a couple SUP’s for a nice afternoon of paddling around Poipu. The disgruntled guy getting the boards together for us seemed to just not want to be there, and should have been a sign for us to turn around. We went inside and filled out all the necessary paperwork, then went outside to pick up our boards. They were sitting there ready to go sans paddle. He went searching for paddles and came back saying they ran out and had none left. I asked if they could get us new ones. The store manager girl came out and said thanks for the business advice in a extremely rude condescending tone. These people don’t want your business, you shouldn’t give it to them.

Really love this place! We were in Kauai for a week and we came to this shop about 3 times. The staff is really cool and they have everything you need to rent or buy. My boyfriend rented a surfboard and bought a rash guard, and I found some sweet summer dresses on the sale rack. They have surf boards available to rent out for a whole week. Super convenient location by Poipu Beach and next to Brenneke’s.

I don’t think people there are honest. Here’s my story: We wanted to book surf lessons with the Kauai Surf School(which is a great school and you should try it out!), and from their website we knew there were free t-shirts to be had for direct booking. However, the direct booking button on the Kauai Surf School’s website didn’t work for me. For some reason I stupidly thought the the Nukumoi Surf shop and the Kauai Surf School were under one umbrella company. So, as we went to the Nukumoi Surf Shop to book for our lessons, I asked the cashier about the free t shirts. He asked another worker to get their manager for my question. The manager told me that they didn’t have the t shirts in the shop, and I should talk to the people at the booth on the beach when we checked in for our lessons. When I later talked to the people from the Kauai Surf School, they told me that the Nukumoi Surf shop was an external booking agent for them and cash in 30% commission, hence no t-shirts for customers who booked through Nukumoi. Do you think that the manager doesn’t know about this situation? Or do you think that the manager knowingly misdirected me, knowing full well that I would never get my free t-shirts, because they would get the money that could have been spent buying the said shirts?

$ 6 for a full-day rental of snorkel gear. And they’re within easy walking distance of 2 fish-filled coves along Poipu Beach. They couldn’t make it easier for two mainlanders to experience the Hawaiian undersea world if they tried! Friendly employees, low prices, and no hassle. Very pleased.

Rented a stand up paddle board and a boogie board from here. My girlfriend and I had a great time in the water with the equipment. Best part, it was only $ 27 for both! Best deal ever! And the staff was really nice and helpful.

Been coming to Kauai for years and dropped in here for the first time in years because my wife’s bodyboard leash broke. Tell you the truth, I wasn’t optimistic because I have a memory of being in there some years ago and not being impressed. I was pleasantly surprised because it looked pretty well organized and well stocked. Stores can change, and good if they have cleaned up. The first person helping us was a little unsure, but the next one was pretty clear and knowledgeable. Got exactly the same leash as the old one we were replacing. You’d think the prices would be a little jacked up, but the price was comparable to the price from an online site I normally use for equipment. And, sorry if this blows it for you Nukumoi, I checked my receipt later and saw I got a discount. I can only say, that if this was a local discount, it wasn’t the first time. Mahalo nui loa.
