We discovered Big Save’s poke bar on the night before we were leaving. They didn’t have any rice when we went(which still boggles our mind), but we found a local Food Truck that was willing to sell us a few scoops of rice for $ 1 per scoop, so we just ordered some poke from here and made us a meal.(Hubby was clearly really determined to have poke for dinner) After we had it that night, hubby couldn’t get over how good it was(even the previously frozen version) and continues to kick himself for not discovering it sooner in our trip! The price is really reasonable and we probably would’ve eaten this every day we were in Kauai had we known about it sooner! We even stopped by before our flight, even when we were running late, to grab a poke bowl to go. Well worth the chance of missing our flight! Haha! The Hawaiian style Ahi Poke was our favorite. It is also a supermarket with alcohol(our resort let us bring our own) and we also grabbed a few different varieties of SPAM that we would not find in the Mainland(highly recommend the Teriyaki flavor SPAM).

I loved this store. They had a great fish department that made AMAZING Poke. It was also much less than the Seiku store. Gret bakery department. They helped us out with a surprise for our family by writing some names on donuts for breakfast for us. I also had the pork buns from the hot tray. They were VERY good for a grocery store.

Their poke is pretty good although their is better on the island. As far as shopping goes… DONT do it. Go to costco! And if you try to park anywhere in their parking lot during 5 – 7 rush, good luck. place is crowded and crazy. The one thing I was impressed with was the first day I went… 15 chicken wings from their deli for 7.99 that were pretty dang good… i went back a few days later and they told me they just changed the price to 14.99 for 15… –_–

Big Save was a good option vs. the little grocery stores but next time we will just shop at Safeway for the bulk of our grocery needs. The store itself was quite busy and seemed to have a lot of locals so that spoke volumes.

My wife made a purchase with her credit card at Big Save, Koloa store last night and 12 hours later there was a fraudulent charge on her card in South Carolina. Big Save is the only purchase she’s made with this card in over 7 days. All other charges have been verified with the card company. Be careful here. Maybe use a less frequently used card to test the waters so you don’t have to replace your main card.

I read the reviews here, and we went, and it was very good for the price. The breakfast my wife got would have fed three linebackers, and it cost $ 6.49. It tasted pretty good too. The Poke was excellent(although since it was my first time eating Poke, maybe I don’t know what I’m talking about), and although it was previously frozen, was chilled just right, and the seasoning was excellent. Got yogurt, and water bottles, and aren’t getting fleeced by the resort. Also, the feta cheese and cucumber salad in the deli was great!

A bit of a surprise! We were trying to get brunch at the restaurant next door and for whatever reason it was closed for the next few days. Hunger had already set in so we decided to make due and walk next door to Big Save and hopefully scrounge up something for our growling tummy’s. They have a nice deli area that served up cheap hot breakfasts with large portions. While not delicate fare by any means it was tasty and the portions were beyond large. The store itself is a great place to grab little gifts or stock up for your stay. I found the prices for booze(don’t judge how’s a girl supposed to make mimosas and Mai tais without the ingredients?!?) to be fair. They have a very large poke bar that I was too early to order from. I can just imagine filling my belly full of all the different types here on the cheap! Go for just that and take pics so I can envy you from afar! They had the cutest poultry hanging out in the parking lot! Camilla the Unilocaling Hen made tons on new pals and even got to meet little chicks. Big Save was a sleeper hit for me. I came in hungry and a bit upset and left with a full belly and a smile!

A great place to stock up on daily essentials and for reasonable prices. What I’m reviewing The Big Save on is their grilling days. After ten days of eating seafood I was in the mood for red meat. Tuesday was their steak day. For a ridiculous low price of $USD9.95 I had a generous portion of grilled beef, which they sliced beautifully and two other side dishes. I chose the mashed potato with gravy and steamed vegetables. A success in seasoning and the cut of meat was tender. I highly recommend the grilled beef.

Is the only super market in the area. The market is on the small size for a super market but has everything a vacationer staying in Poipu needs. The prices are reasonable given that they are the only large grocery store in the area. Fruit and vegetables are relatively fresh. Good variety of tasty poke at reasonable prices. The deli is a deal. You can get a tasty hot breakfast at 6:30AM. Lunch sandwiches and dinners are also available. We went regularly for poke and breakfast during our one week stay in Poipu. From my observation, locals form the bulk of the customers.

Big Save has recently stepped up their game, remodeling the store, improving the poke, bringing donuts, and making better organization throughout. It is exactly what you would expect from a small town grocery store, they don’t have everything, but they have enough to get your meals made! People complain about the prices, but it is comparable to the other stores on island, I watch the sale ads and I often find things cheaper at Big Save then at Safeway…

While in Kauai, we need to get some necessary items that we couldn’t bring on the plane. The concierge suggested Big Save, which is their grocery store. We found the store, and were able to stock up on everything that we needed, and then some. So, if you need some snacks, post cards, hair products, etc, this is the place for you.

We were staying at a spot that had a kitchen so it made sense to pick up some groceries. It didn’t make sense to eat at Keoki’s every night for $ 70. Thank goodness this place opened early and there was a lot to choose from. They had a bakery and even a hot food spot to pick up breakfast. I was tempted to just get eggs from them but instead I just got rice and fried rice for the Filipino household. I spent $ 78 on water, milk, POG, bagels, kettle chips, and they had a crazy selection of Spam that we don’t have on the mainland. I grabbed the Hot & Spicy one which definitely lived up to the name and the teriyaki one that I definitely enjoyed. Oh, I also got chocolate macadamia pancake mix and syrup. Yes, everything is super expensive as if you were shopping Whole Foods prices for everyday stuff but it’s good to have. The cashier was friendly and didn’t charge me for two bags.

I really can’t give this a higher rating bc my groceries usually consist of way more fruits and veggies than anything else, and the quality was bad. Pretty much everything I wanted to buy did not look fresh. The prices were high so I hated having to fork up so much for squishy cucumbers and browning lettuce. BUT I will say that the prices here are definitely lower than the other stores I visited. I found my bread for a bit less and a few other staples I needed to cook some meals at our rental. My advice is to buy your non-perishables here and opt for getting the rest elsewhere. Not all of the perishables were horrible, but I dug around for a while trying to find ones I finally felt comfortable consuming.

Big Save market in Koloa is a great, affordable option when staying in the Poipu area. If you didn’t stock up on stuff in Lihue(Walmart, Costco, etc…), then your only reasonable shopping option in the Poipu/Koloa area is Big Save. You well get skewered at the hotels and other small markets(Whaler’s General Store, Living Foods, etc). They have basically everything at this market, and most importantly were the wide variety of baby food options! I’ll be back frequently when in the area!

This is a great place to stock up on anything you need — food, junk, anything. No need to pay Poipu prices when there is an entire sushi section of the«freshly prepared» section of the store. In the meat section, I found pigs feet, oysters(have to shuck ‘em yourself, now), and seasoned squid. I didn’t buy it. I’m just saying I saw it. If that’s what you’re into. There’s also plenty of liquor, snacks, surfboards, cigars, you name it. Open late.

The only full-sized grocer in Koloa /Poipu region. Since we had a full kitchen in our suite, we cooked breakfast everyday. To make a long story short, we ended up at Big Save at the end of each day’s excursion, to pick up next morning’s food. We discovered some delicious local treats, like apple banana(looks like a banana, but taste has the tartness of an apple).

I have stayed in Po’ipu condos twice in the past 2 years. Shop at this Big Save for groceries. The fish, meat, produce sections have everything I want and need. This store has actually improved. The sandwich making station at the deli does a very fine job. The sandwiches are large in size, good quality, at the same price as mainland supermarket sandwich stations. There’s a sushi chef making a wide variety box selections. The deli has a 10 item selection of poke’. This market is better stocked than the Sueko market down the street.
