Ate here for dinner one night while staying at the American Club. We had the pretzel bits, a bison burger, the regular burger, sweet potato waffle fries and a strawberry rhubarb cobbler. Everything was fantastic! The cheese sauce for the pretzel bits was fantastic and the jam on the bison burger is something I will dream about. Will be back if we are ever in the area again.

Working for Kohler, you almost automatically know«business lunch» means Horse & Plow. The atmosphere always reminds me of Texas with and English pub touch, with Wisconsin food. They tend to switch up the menu every time I go there. I mostly roll with one of the burgers, but I’ll admit there were 3 separate occasions where I tries their Shrimp Po-Boy. Coming from Louisiana, I had to. The first time, it wasn’t very good. The second time it wasn’t very good. The third time it wasn’t very good. Now, this is coming from a Louisiana kid who has high standards for messy, huge, delicious po-boys. This shrimp po-boy they served and I kept giving chance to, just wasn’t cutting it. It was the total opposite of the characteristics I mentioned. It was small, neat, and too fancy for a louisiana po-boy. Only my fellow New Orleanians will understand. Now, all the other menu items are actually really good. Cheese curds are always on their A-game, salads are always filling and the atmosphere after work is always fun(especially on a Friday). This is probably my favorite food spot within the Kohler village, and I recommend it for out-of-towners looking to grab an affordable meal in town.

Tried the Horse & Plow because of the other Unilocal reviews. It was well worth it! The raspberry lemonade was excellent and the beer cheese soup was the best I have ever had. I also had the lobster roll and it was very good as well. There are many more things on the menu I will be back to try in the future.

We went for a quick late dinner and it was more than adequate for a carnivore and just a little under adequate for a vegetarian. Their beer and wine selection is pretty good. And the meat offerings were good. My partner ordered the Caesar salad with salmon and he absolutely loved it. I get it that it is a Wisconsin establishment but please can you add a couple of more vegetarian dishes? I had the inevitable black bean burger which was blah. If you can raid the chef or recipes from Spiros Downtown in Iron Mountain, the best veggie burger I have ever had. But the side salad was fantastic. I don’t know where they managed to get such fresh, crisp lettuce at this time of the year but I loved it!

Mindy by far is the best waitress u have ever had. If your undecided she makes suggestions, she’s extremely friendly and just has s kind heart. I am all about the relationships and she is by far one of the best in the business.

We have been going to the Horse & Plow for years en route to Door County. The vibe is casual, and they have some of the best beer cheese soup around. Try it with their homemade croutons, and you have a meal. Hubby enjoys the chicken wings for a bar snack. Six of them plus soup or salad and it’s a meal. I like their wedge salad(I know, boring) but it is laden with blue cheese and tomatoes and very crisp and fresh. The bloody marys are large and full of vegetables. The wine is a generous pour and they usually have a variety that I haven’t tried before. Need comfort food? Try the grilled cheese and soup. They will make sandwich wraps for you, too. Prices are reasonable, the staff is knowledgable and very friendly.

I came here for our first lunch at the American club where we weren’t super hungry but still were ready to eat something since those Unilocal pictures really drew me in and come on, sweet potato waffle fries?! Can there be anything better served in a cute little basket. Okay, the place is very homey and we snagged a table by their fire place so it’s the perfect little lunch spot during a winter wonderland when you want to get cozy and eat some comfort food by the fireplace. Our server approached us quite quickly and was very sweet throughout. We tried some of their beers on tap and all were very tasty so I definitely recommend those. Okay, so everyone talks about how Wisconsin is known for cheese, well this place is known for their awesome beer battered cheese curds, similar to mozzarella sticks but way curdier. They are also served with some yummy ranch sauce. Definitely a nice treat and something worth sharing since one portion would be wayy too much cheese in one sitting for me, but that’s just me. We then decided to share their bison burger with those amazing sweet potato waffle fries. The fries really don’t need an introduction since they are bomb, and amazing, and I even asked for some of their honey mustard sauce and that just does the trick. Super tasty. The burger we ate in like 3.4 seconds it was that good. They prepared it medium well just like we asked where it was pink in the middle as some people can’t seem to cook it perfectly when you ask for it to be a little pink in the middle, and they did it well, with their cheese and onion jam, I am craving some more. We didn’t want to order dessert as we were going to the Craverie for some ice cream, but this place really hit the spot and is one of the only casual establishments on such a lavish resort. Service was also really good and the people working here are super nice. I would definitely come not even if you’re staying at the resort but just as a delicious local lunch spot. Oh and those waffle fries…

Had a business meeting across the street and came here for lunch. First time eating cheese curds(fried cheese) and beer and cheese soup(tasted great). We all really enjoyed eating here. The lunch board special for $ 15 is a good deal with soup and half sandwich with a side. My blackened salmon salad was cooked a perfect medium rare but wished the salad had more iceberg or romaine lettuce. Cheerful waitress who refilled our sodas many times. Great find in Kohler. Stop on by after visiting Kohler Design place. I was sure glad too.

The service here is friendly, courteous but not prompt. That’s the only criticism I have about this place, other than that this place is great. One thing I noticed is that the food quality is very high quality and even the most simplest items are transformed by the amazing chefs here into something quite special.

Yummy Wisconsin food. Beer, cheese, deep fried. All of the happy stuff. We love their ‘American club’ sandwich, the Plow burger, beer & cheese soup, their buffalo bites, the pretzel bites(really just a bunch of yummy, fat i.e. happy filled appetizers worth getting) and in our opinion they have the best deep fried cheese curds you can get in Sheboygan County! Great service, relaxed tavern feel, good for kids and a good dinner out. It’s also a really fun place to take visiting friends and family to experience the Club without the cost. Walking around the gardens, stopping in to the Green House for after dinner treats, and chatting on the patio. Really great atmosphere.

The husband and I make it a point to stop here for a meal if we’re driving past Kohler, WI. Food is elevated bar food. The Nachos are AWESOME and HUGE! They reheat pretty well in an oven. The burgers are flavorful and filled with juices. We’ve also tried the Shrimp Po’boy, which I’d also give an A+. If you’re in the area, make a stop and check it out!

This place is the best and the worst to me. I love that its soo close and the food is usually pretty good. The service on the other hand blows. It takes way too long especially during lunch time. I would recommend going here during dinner and try their cheese-curds(they are heavenly)

The service of The Horse & Plow is at the same level of the The American Club… truly exceptional. During our stay at the American Club, we visited the pub twice. On both occasions we have an excellent experience. To start with the beer menu is extensive with a huge variety of draft beers in addition to bottle. They also have a great variety of mixed cocktails. The actual menu is your standard pub fair with lots of vegetarian options and Wisconsin standards. We had the nachos with out the meat… it was HUGE… could probably feed at least 6 people. The chips were perfect, with the right proportion of cheese and other toppings… We also tried the Veg Burger which was also very good. They brought us sweet potato fries which I am not too big of a fan, but these were actually perfectly salted and nicely seasoned. Overall, an excellent place to get some good beverages and some fancy pub fare. If you ever in the American Club, a must eat.

Cheese Curds… damn my lips love you and my hips hate you. Thank the stars I do not live near this place, they are addicting. The Horse and Plow is a basement pub the Kohler workers use to go to to tip a few after work. Now it is a very nice restaurant and pub located in the American Club. A shuttle bus over from our hotel, thru the lobby and down the stairs to a very lively bar. quickly seated at a table with a great view of the place and a big screen to watch part of the game. The tables themselves are really cool, made from the recycled wood of the old Kohler bowling alley. The food was very good from the previously mention cheese curds to a excellent Ruben sandwich. Not huge beer list, but the choices were a nice selection without being to confusing. Service was spot on and all in all no complaints. Order the cheese curds… trust me !

Wow… those bacon bites were AMAZING! they were slathered with a tasty bbq sauce and sliced nice and thick. Make sure to order those if you go here. service was pretty good, and they have couches next to a fireplace and TV so it was nice to have a few drinks and some appetizers. the Cheesy Beer soup sounded good so we ordered that too, but the consistency of it was odd to me, like it was a potato soup. so I didn’t enjoy that as much. they have a bunch of Wisconsin craft beers on their menu as well and they have flights of it. pretty awesome to try out all the different brews. all in all, we were pretty surprised as to how good the food was, and the friendliness of the staff. I’d definitely stop back here if I make a stop at Kohler again.
