*cash only* Wonderful place to eat. I have never gotten anything I have not liked. Normally order the Volburger with onion rings and they are always sooo good!

Our first time here and I can’t believe we’ve never tried it before! Hot beef dinner just like I would make and banana pudding… yummy. Vol burger and crispy fries with gravy on top .So good. You won’t be disappointed!

Monday night — $ 5 after 5:00 is the best deal in K-Town. I think it’s actually $ 5.99. Awesome burger and fries for $ 6! Just like the last reviewer said, no credit cards, so bring cash.

Great rib eye sandwich! The fries were good too. Seems like a popular place with the locals. The price was good too. Save room for the homemade banana pudding made daily!

I’ve been multiple times and every time it’s great. I always get the hogie on dark with mayonnaise and mustard. Absolutely my favorite sandwich from any place ever. They steam it which gives it a delicious flavor. The hogie comes with salomi and ham and swiss cheese.

Been eating here for almost 20 years and I’ve eaten probably half of their huge menu and not once have i left hungry. From the Vol Burger to the Veal Parmesan you just can’t go wrong when ordering here. Very friendly and fast service even when it’s packed. If you are passing through Knoxville it’s just a short ways off of I-75 so stop in and have a Vol Burger and thank me later. Just be prepared for an amazing collection of Vol memorabilia if you aren’t a fan of the Big Orange. Cash only also but they do have an ATM.

This place is the last of a dying breed of restaurants. It’s strange… it is known for its Vol burger, but they have an American-Italian menu too, of spaghetti, chicken parm, etc… I really want to try that stuff, too, but I got the Vol burger. So…BLUF: — It’s cash-only. There’s an ATM on prem, though. — Vol burger is a MUST! it is just a straight, basic burger shack burger. Trust me — you need this in your life — The onion rings!!! Man those were fried to perfection! — Eat IN! It’s just a good feeling… I remember these types of places from my childhood. There is a sense of nostalgia that really does enhance your meal

Great place! Came here with my daughter. I got the philly steak and she got a bacon cheeseburger. portions are huge! Food was awesome, we’ll definitely come back! Very friendly people, family owned place. The only thing that threw me off was they don’t accept cash but there’s an atm inside. Glad I found this place!

This place was a pretty interesting place. Let’s just say they were decked out in vol gear. Well, what can you expect? A mom and pop kind of restaurant… and in Knoxville. *Please note, CASHONLY!* Definitely caught me by surprise, but luckily I had cash on me… if not there’s a ATM right in the corner. What did I get? Well, the options are pretty much endless as the restaurant says«whatever you want.» So, I sort of modified the Vol burger. I added bacon. I mean it’s not that big of a modification, but I was in the mood in just having bacon on my burger. The burger came out pretty cooked well, and it was pretty tasty, but honestly it didn’t stand out in my mind that I would just drool over when I thought of the burger. It could be the burger that I got, or just simply that i felt the burger was a little soggy. Maybe its because of the juices that was coming out of the burger. Either way, I’m sure the other selections would be better. The only problem I found for this place was that it’s Cash Only. Friendly atmosphere, plenty of seating, and a good choices for food. I’ll give this place a second glance if I’m near the area and check out their other menu items.

This a great place to eat AND a trip back to the good olé days. Can’t go wrong with the famous Vol Burger, but don’t overlook the daily special. No credit cards, yikes! and the people that say the place«needs some updating»… totally missing the point. To make changes to this place would be like tearing down Neyland Stadium: D

I love places like this. No frills, simple, local, inexpensive, fantastic food. I had the pleasure of trying the Vol burger and it didn’t disappoint. There’s nothing fancy about it, it’s just a really, really good burger. I’ll definitely be back and can’t wait to try out other items on the menu.

Greatest place in west Knox. The open face beef reminds me of truck stop favorite… before the Subways and fast food joints took over the M&P’s.

Tasty burger in local, family restaurant atmosphere. Friendly and efficient staff. The restaurant was clean, casual and the menu was broad with everything from burgers to deli sandwiches to manicotti, spaghetti, gyros and baklava.

One of the best little places in Knoxville! Get the Vol burger with fries; you can thank me later. The burger is delicious and the fries are the perfect combination of crispy and soft. Steak in a sack is also great. Ordering is a little odd, but here’s how you do it: –Order what you want. –Go get a drink and sit down. –They’ll call out your order, they may even make up a nickname for you when they call it out. –Go get it. –Savor the deliciousness and take in the atmosphere. –Go up and say what you got and pay. –Forgot cash? Use the ATM by the door. –Go home and nap with deliciousness in your belly.

Sam and dang Andy’s. Oh, oh, oh how I love you. My father was on the faculty at UT and way back when we first came to town in the 80’s he used to take my brother and I to the old location down on the strip. I’ve been loving Sam and Andy’s ever since. What really makes me smile is that mostly the same guys are back there taking orders and cooking up the food who’ve been doing so for years and years. That’s always a good sign to me. This is not gourmet food. Its just awesome food. I’ve been in town a lot lately, so I’ve been able to get in there and eat. My wife used to have a jones for McAllister’s down in Turkey Creek, but on our last trip home I fully converted her to craving Sam and Andy’s. She had one of the subs and wouldn’t shut up about how much better it was than any other sub she’d had in Knoxville. Then there’s the Vol Special. Nothing fancy. A steam table burger with what you want and a side of fries. The fries here, for me, are the best ever. Oh, and the onion rings are a personal problem(I mean that in a good way :)). I love them. If you’re new to S/A then it might be a tad daunting. You go in, order up, sit down, and they call your order. Pay attention!!! Sometimes he’ll call you out by some identifying feature(ex: «Michigan! Your orders up!» for a guy in a wolverine’s hoodie). Get your drink from the cooler or the fountain and enjoy. When you go up to pay(yes, you go to the counter to pay!) remember what you got if he didn’t give you a ticket. And PAYCASH. They don’t take cards!!! But at least they do have an ATM there in case you forgot yours. :) Checks are Ok, I *think*. Some other greatest hits from the menu are the hot roast beef and hot roast turkey. Both of these, served with fries that are also dumped in with the gravy, are old favorites of mine and of my father. He often had one while my brother and I would chow down on burgers or a pizza. The last reason I love Sam and Andy’s has to be the unabashedly prominant love for the Vols :) This is Knoxville food that takes me back to my 5 – 6 year old days, new to the city, and lets me be happy happy happy.
