I was pretty excited about this truck. I LOVE street tacos and anything with a Mexican flavor. This was lacking across the board. The food was ok. Not much flavor unless you consider salt a flavor.

I love a good food truck. And Retro Taco is a consistent staple. I’ve eaten here a few times when they are at Hops and Hollers,(how could I resist a good taco parked a hundred yards from my house??!) and while not super innovative or unique and they lack«garden»(my only gripe), the food is pretty well prepared. The tacos and burritos are pretty darn good. I like them because they aren’t greasy and dripping with cheese… But nachos are like WHOA!!! Huge and delicious and covered in high school football game nacho cheese! Never, ever order the monster. Unless you would like nacho lunch for 3 days. :) And extra credit points because they bring me my food inside instead of making me go check on it outside every five minutes.

Everything’s better back in the day. You were cooler, faster, fearless and a long list of things that were better when you were better. That said, how is it possible that Retro Taco couldn’t be the best? The folks dishing out vittles inside this vintage camper turned food truck aren’t playing around. They’re from California, and dishing out California-ated Mexican food is engrained in their being. I’ve eaten here twice, as of this writing, and what I’ve discovered is that when they say«Monster» when referring to the nachos, they mean GODZILLA! I was unable to finish a whole helping on my own. The nachos, aside from being ample, were topped with all the good stuff you’d expect. The Salsa verde is out of this world good. If I had one complaint, I’d say that it was a little saltier than I’d have liked, but it could have just been an off serving. The other thing I’ve enjoyed was what I have named the MOAQ. The Mother Of All Quesadillas. Again, not messing around, the MOAQ is filled with meaty-cheesey goodness, as well as a healthy serving of love. I can’t explain why it was the best quesadilla I’ve ever had, but it certainly has no competition. In short, when you see an old school vintage camper rolling down the street pumping the sweet smell of tasty Mexican food, follow it wherever it goes!

There are few things on this earth that I love more than tacos. I could eat them everyday, for every meal. And a lot of people can make good tacos, but there is something magical about the love that goes into tacos made by people from California. And really that’s all you need to know about Retro Taco. Rad people from California in a super-rad retro taco mobile. The food is delicious. When you can’t quite put your finger on what that awesome flavor is, just know that’s a touch of west coast you’re tasting. The green salsa on anything and really everything is a must. The nacho portions are huge. The bean burrito is one of my favorites. And then there’s the tacos. Hard or soft… you can’t go wrong. Do yourself a favor and track this truck down for some fine grub.
