When I was broke and in college I thought this was a great course that I could never afford. I was there the first week of June and all courses south of DC should be near peak condition. However, after playing many, many different courses and becoming a very decent golfer I am let down.
For starters, very slow greens that don’t putt true if there was grass on them at all, bare fairways, and the hardest ground ever. The balls rolled forever on the dirt, hard fairways and had horrible random bounces with high shots. The course is not enjoyable and still in rough shape, especially after being closed for so long to update it.
Speaking of the upgrades, would it have killed them to repair the ground where they took out the old cart paths? Just rake it over, smooth it out and throw down some seed. The new cart paths and the new tee boxes were nice and the back nine was better than the front, but overall it was very disappointing. There might have been 3 out of 18 holes that looked like decent golf holes. Too bad, it is a great location. If this is the best they want to do they might as well sell the land and develop it. I’m sure the owners would make a fortune. This is nothing more than a pricey duffers course. Think I’m being harsh? I took lots of pics. Decide for yourself.
