Not as impressed as the other reviewers. They were out of several things on the menu. The chicken tenders were way over cooked, the fries seemed old, the pork was dry, etc.) I used a $ 20 for $ 30 Unilocal voucher and did not spend the $ 30. I asked the waitress for a cookie or something for my niece since I was $ 4 under, but she said that I couldn’t. She said that the waitress usually tells the customer where they are with the bill to make sure they use all $ 30. But she was my waitress and never said anything!!! The beans and hush puppies were good. But overall disappointing visit.

Great burger joint, good sides and good menu for a hole-in-the-wall. Priced well for a small restaurant.

I looked at all the great reviews on Unilocal and thought this was going to be a great place to eat. I wasn’t sure if they were open so I went to the door. The smell of old grease hit me as soon as I got inside. Even though their sign says ‘the best burger in town’, there was no way I could eat in there with that horrible smell. We turned around and went elsewhere.

The food was ok. We went there on National Pie Day. They advertised that they serve pie. The young woman on the counter was very new, it seemed. She didn’t know how to work the POS system, didn’t seem experienced, could barely speak for being so intimidated. We got burgers and fries. They were alright I guess. But they had one piece of pie! On Pie Day! And it tasted old. It was also messy. Tables and chairs all out in disarray. Sticky tables. Concrete floor. Didn’t seem very established. I expected more considering all the glowing reviews and supposed local awards.

Good food. Burger and Philly Steak were on point. Service was very slow and it was very very dead so being busy isn’t an excuse. Mac and cheese came out cold. Once warmed up it was still sthitty. Plastic untensils were dissapointing. Nothing says fast food like plastic utensils. Get a dish washer you idiots. We got a Unilocal deal on this meal, so it was affordable. It is a good spot for food for the family. Not healthy food, but food.

Our food was very good, some of the sides could have been perfected slightly more, but they were overall fairly good. The manager was very polite and was very dedicated to pleasing customers. It’s one of the much better places to eat around here. I will be back, maybe try their burgers which are supposed to be amazing.

This place is everything I wanted it to be and more. The Mac and cheese was as good as my momma and I make it. The French fries are those good hand cut really potato-y ones. I almost didn’t try the hush puppies but got talked into some as dessert. My philly(no onions…) was top notch. They cheese was creamy and tasty. The only flaw was the amount of jalapeños. I love the kick they add, but some bites had too many to enjoy the other flavors on the sandwich. I also tried the ham and cheddar, which was good carving board ham and melty cheddar sauce on top. Perfect. I’m pretty thrilled with what’s offered here and can’t wait to come back.

The burgers are fresh, great onion rings. We came in with a group, so it was a little hectic. The orders were right and so were the checks, doesn’t always happen. The server seemed a little overwhelmed, but she’s only been here 2 weeks. The owner came out to see how everything was, super friendly. Would recommend.

A little slow but everything is made fresh. The burgers are great. The kids enjoyed the grilled chicken on the kids menu, always great to see something not fried on the kids menu. We did get the ranch and bacon fries, yummy! Everyone loved them. They also had some unique desserts, you should try the butter-finger cake. Also a local owner good opportunity to support local establishments.

Ate lunch at Backwoods Bistro today. I had a burger and onion rings plus drink which cost about $ 11.00. In my opinion there was nothing special about the burger it was similar to say fudruckers or Litton’s. I don’t think this was Angus beef or hand pattied. The bun was good and nice amount of tomato and onions on the burger. Thought I would get a more generous slice of Swiss cheese. The onion rings were probably the best part of the meal, probably homemade. It’s hard to believe that for a couple bucks more you can eat an amazing imaginative grass fed or bison burger at the stock and barrel on market square. But for North Knoxville this is about as good as it gets in the Burger world which isn’t half bad. The seats were comfortable, well lit restaurant, pleasant service, etc. Will probably come back and try something else on menu.

A group of 10 stopped by and couldn’t have been happier – or fuller! Great food and great service. Smiles everywhere-of course, I would smile, too, if I got to see the pulled pork platter daily!

Unfortunately, many of the other reviews do reflect our experience. The food was average and much of it was bland. Hamburger was average to above average, chicken was okay, Mac and cheese, slaw were below average and bland, hand cut fries appeared home made but not our favorite kind, seemed greasy and a bit slimy(much like other restaurants who serve these type).

Very good food. The only thing I would change is the iceburg lettuce and the potato salad wasn’t really to my preference. But the hamburgers and pulled pork were prepared very well and the most of the sides were delicious.

The philly cheese steak and the hush puppies. Get out of here!!! This is too good. Super casual, but totally worth driving there from town. Give it a chance, you’ll love it.

We were lucky enough to spot this place by accident, while driving along Maynardville pike. I have to be gluten free and the chef/owner was very well informed about gluten, so could help with my food choices. We had the hamburger steak plate and it was all good. We will be making this place a regular and they have a rewards cards.

Dang, wish I would have seen that 30 for 20 dollar Unilocal checkin special BEFORE eating. That’s ok, I’ll certainly be back! Was enticed by the«Best Burger in Knoxville» boast on their sign so decided to give it a try since this place is right by my place. First, this is a small, local establishment which I like to support if possible, even if they are more expensive, it usually evens out in terms of quality ingredients and service as was the case here. The server was friendly and interested in our experience, showed a little pride in the establishment too. He had to have made a mistake because he told us the single barrel burger was 5 ounces, so we ordered the double. Those had to have been 8 oz patties because that was an IMMENSE burger. And it was a good one, I wouldn’t say it’s the best burger in town, but easily one of the best. Juicy, seasoned well, good bun. It was almost too much to finish. Fries were excellent, hand cut fresh. I’ll have to return here soon. Oh yeah, place and bathrooms were very clean, that always tells me something. Don’t judge a book by its cover, nice little place hidden in an unexpected location. Give them a try!

If you are reading this you are close enough that I’m telling you to stop looking at other places and go here. This is a diamond in the rough. As you pull up you may wonder is this the right place, but don’t let that keep you from going in. I have had brisket all of the U.S. and this ranks in the top for sure. It has been so long since I have had brisket worth writing about I’m not sure if it is in my top 10 or top 5, but it is on definitely on the list. As if the perfectly smoked, tender, precisely cut brisket wasn’t enough the sauce is so good we bought some to bring home for our cookout this weekend. What is a great meal though with out great sides and service? The onion rings and hush puppies are hands down the best my husband and I had ever had. Which brings me to the service. I didn’t decide I wanted said rings until I heard the table next to me talking about them. When we asked if it was possible to change them it was too late, but the chef said no worries and brought us some any way. He checked us as well as all the other tables several times which to me is a sign he cares about what his customers think. The best part $ 11.49 with a drink and your choice of 2 sides plus the 2 giant puppies! Your welcome brisket lover!

I took everyone’s advice and got the Hillbilly Philly. What a great choice. This thing has chili, jalapeños, green peppers, mushrooms, cheese. It’s fabulous. I highly recommend it though the atmosphere at the place is kind of nonexistent. 4 stars only because I’d like better side item choices.

Fantastic family owned establishment! All of the food is freshly and carefully prepared, and the deserts looked so tempting! A coupon brought my family in, but the food will beckon us back.
