Home of the recent AT&T Winter National Championships and 2012 Winter Junior Nationals. The Allen Jones Aquatic Center sets on the campus of the University of Tennessee. The pool is located beside the older Student Aquatic Center that has been the primary competition pool for years. Parking appears to be mostly surface and a UT pass is required. A small amount of metered parking is around the venue. Completed in 2008 at a cost of 24 million this is home to the Vols and Lady Vols who swim and dive at the University of Tennessee. The seating capacity is almost 1,300. The competition pool itself is 50 meters for Long Course. Or, it can be divided up into an 8 lane and 9 lane Short Course pools. The separate diving well features 1 to 10 meter platform. The complex also features a weight room. Tennessee’s aquatic facility is named in honor of Allan Jones, who made a $ 4 million challenge gift as part of Tennessee’s STEPUP Capital Campaign for athletic facilities. Allan Jones, a native of Cleveland, TN, The facility is also utilized for Master Swimming and rents out for parties for $ 300 for 3 hours. The general student population does not use this pool. Coming from someone that has used the complex it is quite impressive, but has it’s shortcomings. It lacks adequate deck restrooms. The visitor locker room is extremely underwhelming in size. The deck tile is very slick when wet, more than it should be and is dangerous to swimmers, coaches and officials walking around the pool. As well there is not a large general purpose room designated for multi-purpose events. However, the facility can use tenting off the side of the building to increase square footage when needed. Overall the pool is without a doubt a crowning jewel for the University of Tennessee. Few Division 1 swimming programs can tout that they have such a facility to conduct practice and events for their aquatics program. Esthetically it is a stunner. Worthy of praise for the beautiful layout and how well it has been maintained for the five year since it opened.
