Huntington’s is THE place if you are looking for a steak in the gorge. Beautiful drive up the Klickitat River in the daylight. If you are not familiar with the area, the drive can be daunting in the dark. A local bar that is a total dump. No children are allowed so no risk of «family» dining. Wear a sweatshirt as it is a bit drafty if you sit near the window or door. We had awesome service and the Rib Eye was cooked to perfection(add the sauteed mushrooms — you wont be disappointed). Beer, wine and fabulous cocktails. We were stuff so didn’t splurge on dessert but I have heard from others it is not something to be skipped. If you are too full take one to go. We will be going back very soon to try the pork chops!

Wine tasting weekend in Hood River. A local recommended this place for dinner. Wow! First of all, it is out in the boonies. Head out while it is still light, it is a beautiful drive. We had to stop and take a moment to enjoy the scenary! Be careful coming back in the dark, deer everywhere. Perfectly cooked steak, awesome baked potato, and broccoli. Cheesecake highly recomended to us but we were so full had to get it to go and haven’t worked up the courage yet this morning to stuff ourselves again. It is a local dive bar so don’t expect fancy amenities or complicated cocktails, but oh boy, Richard knows what to do with a steak! Well worth the drive, we will return!

Fabulous steaks and drinks. I love this place… pay no attention to the negative review!!! No better food in the Gorge and it’s a beautiful drive up the Klickitat River.

If you a want a local dive bar atmosphere with fantastic food then this is your place. Huntington’s doesn’t try to be anything it isn’t. Don’t expect 5 star service, pandering to your every whim. Do expect a perfect burger, a steak that you cut with a butter knife, a delicious baked potato and owners with personality. The margaritas were good, the beer selection is great and atmosphere is just what I want after a day playing in the gorge. If you want your fried chicken without gluten get a salad!

Drove down from Seattle during a weekend, and a local told us about this place. Local dive sports bar in a pass-through town. I’m convinced you can’t get a better steak anywhere around Seattle and Portland. Worth the drive into the foothills. Massive fantastic tasting local steaks. Huckleberry and buttery nipple cheesecakes, home made by the sweetheart that was serving us. Worth the drive up from the wineries.

My husband and I had dinner here on the recommendation of some people we met at Domaine Pouillon, who live in the area. We took the back way to the tiny town of Klickitat(up Lyle Snowden, then across on Appleton Klickitat, then Canyon, then WA-142 and I think I left out one or two) and the views were spectacular. Just two regulars at the bar when we arrived. Little Peggy served us(Peggy’s niece) and Richard cooked. We both had the 16-oz rib eye. My husband had mushrooms and I had grilled onions, we both had broccoli with cheese and the baked potato, mine with just butter and his with butter and sour cream. There was so much butter on my potato that I tried to send it back, thinking it was sour cream.(Well, it’s kinda dark in there!) Delicious and baked to perfection. The steak was done perfectly too. We said medium rare and established with Little Peggy that that meant pink inside and they came out exactly right. The broccoli was great too, not too much cheese and it was cheese not cheese sauce. Ordered a piece of key lime cheesecake to go(I love anything key lime) and having just taken a few bites, it’s the real deal. The cheesecake is light and creamy and the graham cracker crust is not stingy. No whipped cream on top and that is fine with me. Very, very good. We brought our own wine to have with dinner, and their corkage fee was modest as you might imagine. We have no complaints about Huntington’s. It was described as a «dive» bar with excellent steaks and we found that to be accurate. They hadn’t told us how nice Little Peggy is, and you would never guess by his appearance that Richard is a master chef! We will be coming back, and we will be recommending Huntington’s to others in the Gorge who want an excellent meal and will look beyond appearances.

It’s a tavern in the middle of nowhere. If you’re looking for fresh seafood and a fancy salad then get real and go back to California.(see other review) If you’re looking for a great steak or burger with a fully loaded baked potato and a stiff drink then this is your place! Richard makes a mean steak and Peggy serves a mean Jim Beam and Coke. I make it a point to stop by everytime I’m up at my buddies cabin. Never have I left hungry. Her homemade huckleberry cheesecake is not to missed either. They don’t open until 4pm so plan accordingly.

Okay, so I read the first review with a grain of salt, cause no one goes to a steak house in the middle of the western high country outside of Lyle, Wa and orders seafood salad, two things no one would eat there unless they were out of towners watching their wastelines. Okay so I wanted the steak and knew I was trying it, so the question was what kind, and a rib steak is a good choice. I got the rib, the baked spud with butter and sour cream, the mushrooms on the steak, rare, oh and peas, cause I never eat peas. The food was cooked to perfection, and outrageously yummy. It was a great steak, great spud and supreme mushrooms, The cook happended to be out in the bar, so I told him how ymmy it was. The place is a real mix, fishing fiends, locals, and celebraters like us. We both gave dinner 5 stars, and the steak will be remembered for a while, definitely worth the excursion. Best steak I’ve had in years. Oh the horse radish was not bad with it. If you find yourself hankering for a none brew pub/local bar in the midddle of no where with good steaks, by all means check it out.

This place is famous for its steaks. Everyone raves about them so they get one star for the benefit of the doubt. I should have had a steak, but we stopped by for lunch and were planning on going out for dinner so we wanted something light. The salads looked good and I love a good fresh wedge salad. My bf had the scallop salad, both sounded great on the menu, but both were crap. I didn’t read the menu carefully, my bad, but in my defense, have you ever seen a wedge without prosciutto or bacon? They typically have blue cheese dressing, tomatoes, and BACON crumbles! Not at Huntingtons, but it did have large pecans, which were unexpected and just didn’t work for me. Plus. the dressing was mayonnaise with some blue cheese crumbles sprinkled on top. I hate mayonnaise! Yuk! And at $ 9.95 — not cheap, I dont think Morton’s charges that much for their wedge(and Morton’s has bacon!). I didn’t eat it, literally had 2 – 3 bites and couldn’t handle the mayonnaise taste. The owner knew I didn’t like it, she could see I didn’t eat it and asked me about it, yet she still charged us for it. Any descent restaurant takes off items that go back uneaten, for whatever reason. I guess they don’t care about repeat business. The scallop salad was $ 15.95, which you would think would get you a great salad, with plump fresh scallops… but the greens were nothing special and the scallops were little over-cooked deep– fried fish balls, if I didn’t know, I would not have guessed they were scallops. Sorry, but there is no excuse for a lousy salad with inferior ingredients. Moreover, the crappy salads with frozen processed seafood bits makes me skeptical of how good their steaks can be. If you think of any great steakhouse, they all take pride in ALL their ingredients, not just the meat. Huntington’s clearly doesn’t. Overall, the place is cute and the proprietors are nice, but the salads are awful and overpriced. Oh and to the other reviews who dismiss me as an «out-of-towner» or tell me that if I’m «looking for fresh seafood and a fancy salad then get real and go back to California.» I grew up in the Gorge and still have a house here and spend most summers in the Gorge, so I am just a local who has had the good fortune to travel and develop a more sophisticated palate. Moreover, the Gorge is a mecca for fresh, local produce and fish/seafood so I shouldn’t have to go back to SF for a decent salad. In fact, it makes it more disgraceful that Huntington’s doesn’t source fresh. local ingredients! I venture to say this place should be avoided by foodies, anyone that has traveled or knows good food probably won’t be impressed.

Huntington’s Bar & Grill has the best steaks in the Columbia River Gorge area, better than the fancy, schmancy restaurants in the surrounding towns. Their cheese cake is very good too. Edit ½/15. Their steaks do stack up well against some of the best steak houses. That seems like an exaggeration but it’s not. It’s different because those steak houses have the advantage of using aged prime beef. However, even without that advantage the steaks at Huntingtons are simply delicious and among the best I’ve had.
