The Red Door Pottery Studio

What an awesome little studio! There’s a ton of unique and interesting pottery, really friendly people, and a really friendly little dog who like to have her back scratched. You can’t help but feel like you’re home when you’re here.

I was searching for a pottery class and came across Elaine. THANK GOD I did. I have learned so much from her during my 6 weeks of classes. The amount of items you make for the cost of the class is amazing. Elaine is so calm. She teaches with ease and assists when needed. I have already signed up for the next set of classes. If you are looking for a new hobby and want to try pottery… SIGN UP! I am so glad I did.

We found Elaine’s studio when searching for a wedding gift for friends. Her work is wonderful! Each of her pieces (even what she considers «seconds») has a great balance of delicacy and sturdy functionality. The handles are always perfectly placed, the glazes are never too thick, and her designs have wonderful proportions. Although searching for a gift, we couldn’t resist buying for ourselves and relatives while there, too. And her prices are great for the quality of her work. Other potters we visited in the area didn’t measure up to her quality of work and value. It’s also notable that Elaine gives classes for adults and children in her studio, which is clearly visible from her gallery space. Both times we were there, the students looked like they were having fun, and she seems like she’d be a great teacher. In her shop they also have some collectable books, and some striking photos and paintings by other artists (really beautiful, although too pricey for us). Ideally, the next time we’re visiting the area we can sign up for a class with her!

I love this little studio. I love that you can see the workspace as well as the gallery space. I love that there’s NPR playing in the background when I go in, and I love that the owner recognized me from one visit to the next a couple months later. I’m always able to find a unique, original piece to give as a housewarming gift or other small present for someone. Plus, the resident dog is small and cute and makes me happy. Hooray for local businesses.
