Great breakfast! Had the Irish skillet and it was great with its corned beef hash, eggs, hash browns, and veggies. Truly a refreshing change from other Kirksville breakfast stops. Second to Sweet Expressions! I dined with family from the east coast. They thought it was great too!

No frills breakfast location. Food is fast and cheap. Satisfying. Waitstaff was very nice and helpful.

INSHORT: Probably Kirksville’s best option for breakfast. THEFULLSTORY: My brother lives up in the Kirksville area, and we occasionally drive up to visit him for the weekend. Since he lives out in the country, we usually stay in Kirksville and grab breakfast on our way out of town. Sadly, there aren’t a lot of good options in the area for breakfast, and we’ve heard that the place called«Pancake City» is not a good place to go for pancakes. Diner 54 is a relatively new entry, in the old Country Kitchen location down by the Holiday Inn Express on the south side of town. The good news is that it’s big and open, with plenty of seating available and a fairly large menu. It seems to be a favorite of many of the locals and the townies; we didn’t see too many Truman students there. We didn’t have to wait for a table, and the waitstaff was on the ball. I was actually surprised that, as busy as they were on a Sunday morning, we didn’t have to wait for anything. If you’re looking for breakfast that’s roughly on par with a restaurant like IHOP, Diner 54 is a great place to go. My daughter got Mickey Mouse pancakes(actually, she referred to them as «Minnie» pancakes — and why not?) and received a fairly large portion. Others at the table got the veggie skillet and the veggie omelette and were pleased with the amount and the quality of the food. I tried a waffle covered in strawberries and whipped cream and found it sweet enough that I didn’t need any syrup.(It’s something of a specialty dish. There’s also a variation with comes with ice cream called the«Alaska.») On my way out, I ordered a piece of coconut cream pie to go from the pie cabinet(which had many options available). I was not disappointed. Diner 54 also has a fairly extensive lunch and dinner menu. They’re really like a local version of Denny’s, Perkins or IHOP, none of which can be found in Kirksville. Hopefully, they’ll stick around and become a fixture of the community.

This place is pretty good. The menu is pretty large, and the waitstaff is always really nice. The décor is simple but sufficient; nothing too over the top. The breakfast is pretty good. I recommend the veggie skillet, pancakes, and French toast. Their sandwiches are pretty good. They have a big pie selection; the coconut cream pie is pretty good. Overall, a nice place with decent prices.
