Trading Post

Ok seriously? A claim to be a USPS but doesn’t take credit cards? This is not a usual post office like I was looking for (stupid GPS). Rude, abrupt service by messy looking woman in her 40’s? Kids were playing behind the counter and lady looks like she lives there in the back and just got out of bed. The place is dumpy with random weird homemade things to buy and a strong musty odor. Reminds me of a Salvation Army. Just a weird experience.

Not a full service P.O. because they don’t accept debit or credit cards — cash or check only — but they are an «authorized» postal center. The people are friendly & helpful and they have cards and other sundry items for sale. It’s an old fashion back-​of-​the-​store. Unfortunately, the shopping center is going to be razed & rebuilt, so they are going out of business sometime in 2016.

This is a cute little post office, and it does what it’s supposed to, but I’m not falling over myself to go here. If I’m in the area, it’s much more convenient than having to go all the way into DT Kirkland, but I can get better service at the Pony Express in Juanita.
The store is clean, with a clear layout and also little gifts or cards you can buy as well. I’m not sure how much turnover that stock gets, but at least the option is there, if you’re into kitschy trinkets to send you your loved ones.
Customer service is decent, if not a little abrupt. The staff will get the job done but they don’t seem to be particularly friendly (maybe it’s because I’m not a regular here).
It’s true that they only take cash or checks, but there’s literally a Wells Fargo across the street so it’s not like you can’t get cash. Still, it’s a bit odd in today’s cashless society to have to get out a wad of bills and some coins.

Dear god, don’t ask why they don’t take credit/​debit unless you want a snide lecture. No smile or any customer service to speak of. The older woman is somewhat friendly, but the younger one is flat out RUDE. I wont be going back. Ever.

WHO DOESN’T TAKE CREDIT CARDS??? Other than that, the customer service was poor and the people were slow. Many reviewers talk about how rude this place is, and they were right on.
The smell was terrible, and I had to smell it for a long time because the wait was so long.
Don’t waste your time or cash here.

This is my post office of choice. I have one closer, but will go out of my way to patronize this business. I can’t tell you how many times Peggy has helped me or a family member to re-​pack items for more cost efficient mailing. I am always greeted and given a smile even on the busiest of their days.
Yes, I fully expect a wait during the Christmas mailing season, but I’d rather wait here, than at the bigger post office.

This little PO is the best! I’ll never go anywhere else if coming here is an option. The ladies always go out of their way to find me the least expensive shipping method. When I first went in I wouldn’t have even thought to ask about shipping options, but I didn’t have to because they we’re looking out for me. I’m a patron for life!
Super friendly. Helpful. Sweet. Homey. Yes, a homey Post Office. Who would’ve thought?!

Hmmm… root canal or go to the post office? Go to the Trading Post, and forget about the post office. Trading Post has everything the USPS has without all the snotty employees and more. Cash or check only though. (There is a Chase and BofA and Wells Fargo ATM all within walking distance.)
Perks: local, family-​owned business. And tons of packaging tape, peanuts and stuff (for free mind you) with a big ass counter for you commence getting you item to point B. AND, Peg and Jen will point you in the right direction for a box, envelope, whatever it is you need if your item isn’t already packaged.
Oh. And you want a last minute gift item to slam into said package? Trading Post has those items, too, THANK GOODNESS! Cards, a variety of candy, home decorations and brick brack.
Need a PO Box? — - They, too, have that base covered. Forget about the long lines under white lights with junk parking where everyone stands awkwardly wondering if they’re EVER GONNA GET TO THE FRONT! Talk to Jen and Peg at Trading Post.

I like this place! No long lines & they actually have tools to help you if your package needs it.

When I saw the 1-​star reviews on this place I felt compelled to add my own positive review. I am not a shill, just a person who uses Trading Post every few weeks for sending domestic mail.
My favorite things about Trading Post:
–Short lines/​no lines as long as you go outside the lunch hour
–Convenient location (for me); love to couple it with a Trader Joe’s run
–They sell plain white boxes!
–No nonsense staff: just weigh it and off it goes!
Reasons why I didn’t give them five stars:
–They don’t accept credit cards
–They close early in the evening and my work day is looonng
–I wish I could send international mail here
But I can work around those things.
Stay cool, Trading Post. And say hi to the baby behind the counter for me. :)

Love this place. I go there for everything but foreign mail (they don’t do international). Minor grievance– they only take cash or cheques which is tedious as a person who never has any money in their chequing acct and therefore never carries a cheque book and secondarily never has any cash (what can I say? I’m broke! I I live on credit cards). So I always have to borrow money before I go.
But they always do whatever they can to save me money; they always know my whole family and inquire about them whenever I go. They even notice when I get haircuts when my own family doesn’t notice! I’ve known them since I was 15 or so (I’m transmasculine) and somehow they always managed to recognize me post-​transition though I’m sure my mother told them about my transition. But still, I look waaay different. I love this group of people that run it. I really appreciate all that they do and the fact that they go out of their way to remember their clients.

They are strange and unfriendly. Have you ever been to a foreign country, and noticed that they don’t believe in putting customer first? Thats the feeling you get in Trading post Kirkland. I don’t think they like their customers very much. They don’t accept cards. Who doesn’t accept cards these days? They expect us to stop by the bank before mailing stuff?

I really like this place because the staff is friendly and it is right near my house, but I hate that they don’t take debit/​credit cards. I never carry cash so I always have to plan head. There have been a time or two I’ve been a few cents short and they’ve covered me, which is really nice.
They have all kinds of fun, random trinkets to look at while you wait. Speaking of waiting, never much of a wait. Seems pretty quick every time I’ve come. I like it.

Meh. No debit or credit cards accepted, but it is convenient and they are quicker than most post offices. Their hours are limited, but you can get things mailed there. Not much more to say.

I had a couple of good experiences there. It is small and convenient from the bank. I am just disappointed that when a parcel came back from not receiving a postage, which i paid for, and called about. The lady on the other hand was not sympathetic nor kind about refunds. She just made an excuse about stickers get stuck on other mail and it happens all the time. I would believe it but my mail clearly had nothing on it. No sign of any sticker. I gave it three stars because my last two trips weren’t bad. I’m just disappointed that no accountability on their mistake.

I would rather go to a real post office. That should tell you how bad this place is.
They are slow, disrespectful, rude, and I think they might be running a daycare behind the counter. Don’t go here unless you’re prepared to wait through a few feedings, spit ups, and diaper changes before even being acknowledged.

Anyone with half a brain can see that the 5 star reviews for this place are total shills. Don’t support business that use shills to rate their product.

In addition to the poor customer service experience I recounted in my first review, I’ve now received a scathing (and, I might add, full of poor grammar) message from someone who appears to be affiliated with the Trading Post (incidentally, the person who wrote the five-​star review above). I’ve lived in the Kirkland/​Eastside area for several years, and only ever had okay experiences at the Trading Post — nothing stellar — but this was inexcusable. And clearly, the people affiliated with the business aren’t exactly classy either.
