Le Canard, is my favorite place in uptown kingston. And probably in the Hudson Valley in general. The food is excellent. The staff is incredibly experienced. JJ is a brilliant chef. They are all unique and wonderful people. I adore going there. I always feel welcome and always look forward to going back.

The food was excellent. Service was friendly but shaky. The menu wasn’t horribly exciting(pretty traditional French), but the specials were wonderful and extensive. The duck confit was divine! The service was a bit slow, and in the end we couldn’t get any of the waitstaff to take the check hence four stars instead of five… but I think we’d go back in a heartbeat. As long as we weren’t in a hurry :-)

If you read enough comments in Unilocal, and I do read a lot of them, you sometimes wonder if the writers are even talking about the same place. One person’s 5 star rating is the next person’s «I’ll never go back». I’m imposing a rule on myself, if I am going to give 4 or more stars, I will have visited it successfully at least twice. If the place stinks, I’m not going back for a second go around. This is a five star, amazingly great French restaurant in the traditional style: no nouvelle cuisine here! First time was for dinner, the escargot was outstanding and the Duck Confit is reminiscent of the NYC greats like Perigord and Grenouille, at a fraction of the price, and without the pretention! Simply the best prepared Confit I’ve ever had. How can you be in a place like this and not have the Crème Brulee? It is to die for. Next time in was lunch, and sure enough, the Onion Soup was as good as I expected it would be, subtly flavorful, replete with bay leaf and Thyme springs. French baguette just perfectly done, and slightly warmed. Trout Almondine was served over jasmine rice, with a mustard/butter reduction which was the tastiest preparation I’ve ever had. Husband and wife run the place, and are very pleasant and efficient. I am hooked, and will return whenever I am in the area.

Is it still open? But wonderful food service and layout. Cigar dinners sorely missed.

Excellent! Merci Jean-Jacques et Stephane… we had a delicious lunch! Sweetbreads, French onion soup, escargots and mussels and last but not least the French baguette, everything was outstanding. My husband had a glass of Côte du Rhôné wine perfect combination! We will be back very soon!

The food was excellent, though it really disapponted me that the Foie Gras which I ordered was not available. The owner was very kind, said hi to every customer when entrees were all served and shaked with customers when they were leaving.

I was disappointed. I like french food and was looking foward to trying this place. The food was okay but not great. I had the steak and fries. I ordered the steak medium rare and was probably more like medium but it was tasty and high quality. They serve the steak on the fries so fries got soggy. My date had the duck and it was over cooked and dry but at least had good flavor. The service is excellent but I expect more at their prices.

Elegant and cozy with fabulous food. Service feels like you’re being taken care of by old friends at a relaxed dinner party. Loved the French onion soup, foie gras, and duck confit.

We went for lunch. Paid $ 10/glass for stale cotes du rhone wine. I ordered salads niscoise. The tuna smelled old and was tough– lots of grizzle. Olives were from a can, and scarce. No fresh garlic, and vinegar instead of olive oil. Very disappointed. The waiter never asked how the meal was. I should have asked to speak to the manager. My fault

Excellent food, service and ambiance, the old fashion way. Worth the 2 hour trip from NYC. Restaurant décor is absolutely a treat to the eyes. Service is implacable. Food beyond what you ever expected it to be. All in all, a treat to the eyes, the palate and all the other senses.

A recent birthday celebration held in their private dining room, a charming room with it’s own bar, was beautifully handled. Superlative service and amazing food for 18 people never missed a beat. Highly recommend ! P. S. Have the crème brûlée. It’s so spectacular I’m lost for words.

Exceptional service! Exceptional food. A true dining experience with all your French favorites on the menu. Fois gras, Mussells, escargot, etc. Everything is delicious and pride of professional service is obvious. My favorite place in the area by far! I drive an hour one way for this gratefully.

Great service, nice atmosphere, and surprisingly very authentic french cuisine! Will definitely come again when we visit Kingston. I had duckl’orange which was tender and juicy. My friends had the duck confit and pepper crusted salmon. All were delicious.

As other’s have said, excellent food, pricey but worth it. Don’t go there if you’re in a rush. It’s classic French in both food and the ability to linger and enjoy. The diner is never rushed through the meal to free up a table or close up shop for the night. So take 3 or 4 hours to enjoy your meal, some wine and the relaxed atmosphere. If you’ve got any French speaking skills don’t be afraid to try. Have the specials recited to you in French, order in French it’s encouraged.

Ate Thanksgiving dinner here with friends it was good and. Reasonably priced for a special meal. I made the reservation far in advance and stopped in A couple of weeks before to look around and request a table by the window. I only see these friends 1 time a year, every Thanksgiving. And they gave us a table On the opposite side of the room and there were only 2 tables occupied When we arrived and they seated both by the windows … That was really disappointing. But we had a nice time anyway, I just did not understand why they did not reserve the table for us.
