Wait, there’s good stuff here. Not to mention the lanterns, the tiki drinks in classic tiki glasses, the old fashioned chop suey, the proper chafing dishes, the hundreds of homing pigeon trophies… this is a one of kind lost-in-time Kingston treasure. Don’t come here expecting Flushing Chinatown, and also don’t expect the ubiquitous pseudo-chain Chinese takeout that you’ll find up and down the east coast from Maine to Miami Beach. These recipes belong exclusively to Eng’s, and though there are plenty of misfires and gloppy dishes, there are winners in there. I loved one of the more expensive chicken dishes, with the shitake mushrooms and a bunch of other stuff, and I’ll never remember what it’s called. The moo shu pork was great, the sesame chicken, the sweet and sour was fun. The wonton soup is made with homemade wontons, not too shabby for Midtown Kingston, eh? Oh– and I wouldn’t bother with the buffet if it’s a buffet night. I’ve never tried it, but why bother with any buffet?! Order a la cart and get your food made fresh alright?

They may have been around a long time. but their food is sub-par. rice is bland and overcooked. eggrolls are horrible… soup is mediocre… so far everything I’ve tried was not very good at all. all the sauces taste the same… shame.

Considering the wonderful history of this place and the throwback Cantonese menu, combined with great pricing, this is the quintessential neighborhood Chinese dining establishment.Excellent eggrolls, spareribs, egg foo young… full bar and great service. This is a neighborhood stalwart that deserves your patronage. Private lot parking and nice lighting add to the experience

Worst! Don’t waste your money. The sauce on the chicken & broccoli tasted like thick oily chic. gravy from a can. Soy sauce on the table was watered down. The eggroll was practically hollow except for the tough broccoli stalks/leaves. As a group of 5, we felt more like a burden than paying customers. It was 3pm and the place was vacant. The waitstaff was nonexistent. When the waiter did check on us, it was from 15 ft. Away. He heard one person ask for a soda and walked away. Then was irritated when the rest of us asked for refills. I know this place has been around forever, but forever isnt always a good thing.

3 stars are for the eggrolls and lo mein only! They are my FAVORITE around but I do not like anything else on the menu; my husband likes the fried rice and boneless ribs. Other than these select things the rest of the food is pretty terrible. The restaurant is dark, outdated and just seems dirty so we will only do take out if ordering from here.

This is literally the worst Asian food I have had. I got the sweet and sour chicken, it’s usually one of my favorites but I thought it was very bad. We had an option of the buffet. When I checked it out it had a very limited selection of pretty much just meat. The service was bad. Our waitress hardly paid any attention to us it took forever to get refills on our water and the bill. It looks like the building has never been updated. The appearance is very outdated. There are so many good places to get Chinese in the area, I can’t see a reason why I would go there ever again.

leaves a weird, tingly taste in your mouth… and not in a good way. I had the general tsou’s chicken plate and an order of sweet and sour pork. The general tsou’s lacked spice and flavor. The sweet and sour was better, but I’d classify it as passable. The combo plate comes with fried rice and an egg roll. The egg roll was fine, but was heavy handed with the celery! I’ve never had an egg roll where the primary flavor profile is celery. weird. overall, I’m not impressed. Eh.

Engs has been a destination for me and my family for decades. Always delicious and reasonably priced. The ladies that seat you and bring your tea to the table are always very nice. I wish i could say the same about the waitresses. Very unhospitable at times and can’t even eek out a «thank you» at the end of service.

Good food. Every time I order they are busy and have food available right away. The food has always been tasty when I’ve gone there.

Have been going to Eng’s for Years. Not your typical chinese restaurant food. Freshly made. Fried Rice and the EGGROLLS are a must have. Very different from other places. They have Some great concoctions for drinks. Most of these drinks will make you giggle by the 4th sip they are strong and yummy. Buffet night is the best. Beef with Mushrooms steak on a stick, dumplings, sweet and sour pork and so much more for a great price. THe restaurant itself is sorta old fashioned which i like. it is a comfortable atmosphere with booths and tables. Wait staff is the best! Worth the trip if you are looking for a chinese restaurant that is not the same as the others. I love Eng’s Great Place. Take out or eat in. :)

They have the best egg rolls of any place I have every had, but I must leave it at that. Other food is bland and not the crisp type of Chinese food that I have come to accept. If you like what some call old style Chinese food which they equate to chow main or chop suey you would probably like it. But if you want other dishes that we expect from Chinese places today you probably would not. Again, I do say their egg rolls are exceptional.

Visited here on a weekend away with my parents. The staff was super friendly but the food was blend or worse. Maybe it was just an off night(or maybe I’m just a NYC snob…) but not so amazing even for your regular Americanized Chinese

Excellent old school chinese food. Brings back memories of chinese restaurants from my youth. Delicious food in classic wood paneled surroundings that probably havent been remodled in 40 years. And prices are from past decades also.

This is the second time we have ordered from Eng’s. The first time the food was excellent. The second time, everything was over cooked, eggrolls were burnt, fried rice was not fresh. It was really bad and I am terribly disappointed as I thought we had finally found good Chinese food in Kingston

A must do when I do my annual Homecoming Trek. Sometimes it’s a good thing if things don’t change… Why mess with success. Pork and gravy… Crispy noodles with duck sauce… Dished served on old fashion plates with lids… good to be home.

Kais Kitchen was closed and we agreed to get the takeout for 8 so we tried Eng’s takeout. Remve the ‘ambiance’ and the neon sign and you’ve got very mediocre food. LoMein overcooked, mushy. sesame chicken light on sauce and not crispy at all. Wonton soup thin and flavorless. Wonton’s without filling and falling apart. The food was careless, maybe because it was a buffet night?

No no no… I was VERY disappointed with this food! The shrimp rolls were over cooked. The egg drop soup did NOT have nearly enough egg in it. The won ton soup broth did NOT taste like it should, either. The pork fried rice was dry and overcooked. VERY disappointed! They should turn in their wok and forget about it! The BUFFETS have better food than this place! But if you want REALLYGOOD Chinese food, I strongly urge you to go to The Chinese Gourmet Kitchen on Rt. 32 in rosendale. Seriously. They make THEBEST Chinese food you will find around this area. I love it and I have been there many times and NEVER get disappointed! But Eng’s needs to pack up the wok and forget about it.

By far the best Chinese food on the area. Everything is fresh. You won’t find better egg rolls or fried rice anywhere else. Their food is truly their own. Their dinner smörgåsbord on Monday Wednesday Friday and Sunday is top notch. Certainly a great alternative to the buffet. Lunch specials are under $ 5 and comes with soup, egg roll fried rice and main entrée. This is Chinese food at it’s finest. Eat in or take out. Prices can’t be beat! I’ve been a customer for many years and Engs is very consistent. I have never left unsatisfied. I can’t wait to go again.
