Samascott’s Garden Market

This is a great place, very friendly service, with the best ice cream flavors ever! Really creamy. I always get a pint of chocolate, because it’s amazing. Then I experiment with some of their crazy flavors. I love the banana cream pie. I love their soups too. They always have two kinds, and the giant croutons are a must.

Fantastic garden center and market. The flowers and plants are healthy, and the business stands behind its products. The staff is friendly and very helpful. They also carry local dairy, produce, eggs, and meats. Be sure to try their homemade ice cream and daily soups. Definitely worth a drive!

Decided to take a detour on the way back to NYC. Ordered the lemon ginger ice cream, and pistachio ice cream. Both were delicious, especially since it was so hot out! The lemon ginger had a balance of both flavor — not one flavor overpowered the other. The pistachio was very creamy and full of nuts.
The free range chicken coop was some distance from the farmhouse market. So many chickens in one place! And they all look lean and clean. (I’m from nyc so any type of farm animal amazes me.)
The greenhouse housed much plants. The flower greenhouse smelled amazing!
Everyone working there was very nice.

Samascott Garden Center carries a wide variety of fruits, veggies, meats, and dairy from local farms… including their own. They have beautiful greenhouses and plenty of gifts to choose from, but that is not why I felt compelled to write this review. For me, it’s all about The Ice Cream! It’s a religious experience! All homemade, all quality, all so ridiculously delicious! My favorite flavor is the apple oatmeal cookie… In my excitement. .I have often called it the appmeal. They always have an awesome selection, and occasionally run out of a flavor, but that’s so fine because I’ve never been disappointed with a single flavor… you just can’t go wrong. Sometimes I go all by myself, and sit outside in one of their Adirondack chairs or wander around smelling the flowers. Definitely a must on your to do list!

Go here if you’re looking for good prices on local goods (Cheese, milk, fruit, nuts, breads, etc) and for the best homemade ice cream in Columbia County! I’ve been back multiple times since my first visit!

There are only a few truly delicious ice cream and this is some of the best ice cream around this area that I’ve tasted. Love the produce market with the AC on a hot day to cool you down.

Three and a half stars. This place has good local produce and excellent apples. My complaint is twofold: a lack of anything organic, plus the prices on local dairy products. Local dairy here is way too expensive for me to buy anything. Sales are obviously aimed at wealthy weekend residents and tourists. That seems a bit unfriendly to locals. (I understand local dairy farmers who have small businesses need to maximize profit. It’s not like they are getting rich.) I live locally — and I’m willing to pay a little more for local dairy. But the stuff here is very expensive. If they lowered some the prices slightly I’d regularly buy local dairy here. Nevertheless, this place has very good, fresh local produce and sells reasonably priced nuts from Tierra Farms. I have a lot of food allergies and sometimes get allergic when I’m eating a non-​organic apple with the skin. I have never had a reaction to an apple or other fruit or vegetables bought here. Everything has been very fresh.

I love the new store! Samascott’s carries a wide variety of beautiful ornamental and vegetable plants in season, as well as locally roasted coffee and nuts, local dairy and eggs, baked goods, meats and vegetables. They offer two hot soups every day and the best soft serve and hard ice cream around. The service is always cheerful and helpful.

Best place for garden plants/​flowers and a slightly larger selection of ice cream than at the farm. Can’t say enough good things about these businesses. Sustainable, family owned and delicious, make the trip or stop by if you are generally local to the Albany area.
