I was going to give this place 5 stars because the food is good, the waitress was really personable, and the décor is nice. The reason I knocked out 2 stars was due to the $ 5 split charge they added to the bill. We specifically asked the waitress about it before ordering our meal and she said that the split charge gave you another side dish and that it’s optional. We decided not to get the split charge and shared a meal, but we were still charged. We still paid it since it’s only $ 5 but it would have been nice not being lied to.

Their ‘Dino Ribs’ is one of the best meals I have ever had. Giant, fall off the bone, deliciously seasoned and perfectly prepared beef ribs. The mashed potatoes on the side were amazing. This restaurant is a quaint, very homey feeling BBQ joint and as such u would recommend a BBQ dish, however none of the daily specials will disappoint. The jalapeño poppers are a must. I give this restaurant 5 stars because no one I have dined with here hasn’t been blown away. The food is great, and any one who says otherwise probably ordered pasta or something(I haven’t tried everything on the menu and i am not implying that any meal here is sub parr, simply that a lot of food critics don’t realize that they set themselves up for disappointment) that isn’t the focal point of this restaurant. It is the perfect get away spot nestled behind a great ski resort and just makes your ski vacation complete.

The food here is amazing!!! I had the BBQ beef brisket sandwich and it was so tender and delicious. My daughter had ribs and they literally fell off the bones. Awesome beer selection too! The owner was not super friendly to us at first. She seemed annoyed that we were sitting in the dining room, but wanted to order off the pub menu. She did warm up a little. I would still go back because the food is that good!

I really, really wanted to love this place. The inside of the Back Behind looks exactly like you would want a good bbq joint to look like. An old Wurlitzer jukebox, a saloon mirror, and lots of country charm. We started off with the French onion soup, which was fantastic. Lots of gooey cheese, huge slices of onion, and baked to perfection. Now, about that bbq… We decided to share the bbq sampler. This came with a sampling of baby back ribs, spare ribs, brisket, pulled pork, and chicken. There was a $ 5 shared plate charge, which got us each a plate with green beans and our choice of starch. My wife got the mashed potatoes, and I got the Parmesan and mushroom risotto. The beans and starches were very good. We also got a small basket of garlic bread and butter. However, the BBQ was mediocre, middle of the road, meh. The platter came out with a generous portion of each meat, but everything was coated in a slathering of their house BBQ sauce. Each meat was nearly indistinguishable until you dug in and pulled it apart a bit. What I noticed was that meat lacked a good smoked flavor, and had no bark whatsoever. The meat did fall apart, and the meat fell off the ribs, but there was no smoke ring. I got the impression that the meat was cooked inside and oven. I may be spoiled from experiencing a lot of great BBQ joints, but I like a good selection and variety of sauces, not just one sauce doused all over everything. Our bill was $ 55, and that included 2 beers, 1 crock of soup, and the BBQ with shared plate charge. The cedar plank salmon that seemed to be quite popular looked delicious. I think we may be back in the future to have drinks and soup, while enjoying the ambience, but not BBQ!

This is MUST-GO if in Killington. Outstanding service comparable to upscale restaurants in places like South Beach and NYC. Very friendly and personable staff. The bar was very cool and had some quality beers on tap. Finally, the food was phenomenal and truly hit the spot after a tough day on the slopes. Personal favorite was the ‘Dino Ribs’ which are beef ribs, that literally fell off the bone and were super succulent and had a perfectly«burnt» BBQ flavor to them. Both styes of pork ribs were also very very good, but not the best I’ve eaten. Fried pickles were awesome as well. Would definitely recommend for those looking for quality, fall-off-the-bone ribsl in the Killington area.

Since the Guam BBQ people left the Burlington Farmer’s Market, I have been missing well done meat. I think I’ve found the best BBQ in Vermont. The meat was tender, but didn’t fall off the bone(so not overdone). Everything was so delicious. We had enough leftover food to take care of our meal needs for the rest of the weekend!

Like others we were in town for snowboarding and was craving for some good ribs. Per Unilocal we came here. Very nice homey place, great interior design. Caboose restaurant. It’s indeed very nice to see the owner running her own restaurant and provided the specials of the night. We enjoyed the meal. We had the Dino rib, baby back rib, jalapeño bacon poppers, fried pickles, fish n chip, st Lois rib, etc. Beware, each meal is MASSIVE!!! We were overly full and even have more to pack for home.

LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this place. The staff is excellent! I have to mention the owner was so sweet and our bartender(Jay) and our waitress were awesome and very helpful. You HAVE to stop in of you’re in the area. Food was amazing! I can’t wait to get back there!!!

Rather a disappointing experience… table bread was still cold at the center, vegetables watery, and pulled pork average at best. Our waiter dropped a knife while serving our entrees and subsequently disappeared for the rest of the evening — we never saw the replacement knife or the two glasses of wine that we ordered at that point, and our check was eventually brought by an apologetic and friendly owner. I could understand the poor service if the place was packed, but it wasn’t that full. Dreadful service aside, we found the cuisine over hyped and underwhelming.

Excellent service, the owner/server are awesome and lots of fun. A lot of the restaurants/bars around here are overpriced because they are close to Killington, but Back Behind charges an honest price for a full meal. The food was excellent, I ordered the Slammer. Great atmosphere, I felt like I was at home.

Legit smokehouse– quality smoked meats, the smokehouse jalapeño poppers are delicious! They have some big TVs at the bar! Perfect Vermont BBQ joint! Close to bear mountain /killington. I highly recommend the beef brisket, the smashed pulled pork sandwich and most of all you have to try the French onion soup– best I have ever had! Oven baked to perfection — great winter time food!

Had the BBQ sampler. As a southerner who rarely is impressed by the pork bbq offered north of the Mason Dixon line, this was the best I’ve had. The bbq chicken was excellent as well. Meat falling off the bone, great smoke flavor, solid sauce. And compared to Brooklyn prices, this was cheap, really even at southern prices. We got take out, but the bar is a sweet spot I hope to come back to and enjoy a beverage with my BBQ and watch a game.

Drive by this place at least 6 times a month, and finally decided to stop. Glad I did! This place has it all. Great atmosphere, super friendly staff, many beers on tap, and of course GREAT food. Prices seem high, but once you see the amount of food they bring you, the prices are spot on. The poppers are to die for, and the ribs are HUGE. Will be stopping again for sure.

This is definitely a charming BBQ place in Killington. Unfortunately, we ate here last night and were pretty disappointed. Everything in the BBQ sampler was dry and bland. Service took extremely long despite the restaurant not seeming to be overly packed. We had two toddlers and it took quite a long time for any food to reach the table(including the bread which came out with the appetizers). A few bright spots were the French onion soup, the stuffed jalapeños and the overall ambiance. It’s a place we’ve been to a few times and we really tried to love it. After last night though, we’ll be trying other places.

It hurts me to leave this review. I’ve been in Killington for 3 years now, and this place was one that I RAVED about. Even my boyfriend who’s lived here all his life, raved about the Back Behind. Not only is it the only BBQ restaurant in the area, it was always was delicious and a solid dining experience. However, on our visit yesterday, it was an overly disappointing experience. First off, the owner/hostess, was especially uptight and rude. She decided to shout over the mild greetings our party was having to each other(just 4 of us) to ask how many were in our party. Then when she came to the table to tell us the specials, she was overly miserable in her delivery. It was almost as if she was telling us about the recent deaths in the area. It took 20 minutes after we finally ordered to get our appetizers, then another 20 minutes after that to get BREAD. Yes, the bread that comes with every table. Most appalling, was the 1 hour and 45 minutes — yes 1 hour and 45 minutes– it took for our to get our entrees, from the time we were seated. And there was zero acknowledgment, or apology from either our waitress or the owner about the extremely sluggish service. What’s worse, they weren’t even that busy. We actually saw a table of 2 sit down, then get up and leave after about 10 minutes because no one had come to take their orders. So there was empty tables, other waitstaff meandering around, our waitress out of sight half the time, and an hour and 45 minutes for us to get our entrees. Just really unacceptable. Then the worst of it all, the food was just not that good at all. The venison was over cooked, the chicken was tough, the stuffed flounder had WAY too much salt in it(and I love salt, but I tried it and it was hard to eat), and the actual BBQ– smoked pulled pork and brisket– was so dry, I debated whether it was worth bringing home to the dogs or not. I stopped eating it when I took a bite that was also COLD, no matter how hungry I was. And to top it off, their sweet potato fries — which cost $ 2.50 extra– were the frozen ones out of a bag, that really anyone could notice. When we finally decided that we just needed to leave, our waitress was no where to be found. It took about 10 minutes for her to reappear. We asked for the check, and then it took her another 10⁄15 minutes for us to get that! She made it worse by laying out a lame excuse about how ‘all her tables were leaving at the same time’, which wasn’t the case at all. Both our server and the owner were oblivious as to how bad things were during our dining experience, and didn’t seem to really care. Sad to see what once was such a great restaurant go down the tubes. We won’t be returning, but hoping they get things back on track.

Was in town so looked up dinner places after a day of snowmobiling. Dropped by this restaurant around 6:30pm and so glad we did because the line got really long after we were seated! The lady owner read us the specials for the night and gave us our menus. Very nice to see owners running their restaurants cos u do not see that a lot in NY. I ordered the spicy corn chowder with scallops and it was so good!!! Scallops were nicely cooked(grilled? I think) and the soup has a nice kick to it with corn, potatoes, celery and i cant remember what else was in it. Had the mussels as appetizers and that was really good! They also served warm bread with a sweet tasting butter spread and i really enjoyed it. We each ordered an entrée to share. I ordered the smoked salmon fettuccine, my friend ordered the NY strip and girlfriend ordered the combo with chicken and ribs. The smoked salmon fettuccine came and i was expecting it to be cured smoked salmon but turned out to be cooked salmon which also tasted pretty good. The sauce was alittle on the heavier side so it will fill u up!!! NY strip was cooked nicely(medium) served with veggies and he chose a side of mash potatoes. The steak tasted very tender and flavorful. I love when a restaurant does their steaks the right way. I only tried the ribs from my girlfriend’s plate since at this point i was more than half way full! The ribs were fall off the bone and tasted good. There were some hard parts but i think thas just the top layer of skin. Overall, although a very busy restaurant, the food was good. They had a huge bar with what seemed like a lot of beers to choose from but i was too full to have some. Customer service was nice, had no issues with getting my cup filled w water or asking for anything. Wouldnt mind coming back again next time!

I don’t know what happened, but I always try to get there when I’m in the area, this time it was just hideous. We ordered the fried pickles which were the only enjoyable part of the meal… that and the Cole slaw… my mother ordered the baby back ribs, which came out dry and hard, oh, and weren’t baby back ribs. My father and I ordered the fish and chips which was more grease then anything else. Everything tasted blah. I think if the hostess would of cracked a smile he face would of fallen apart. The waitress was good, but seemed to care less about my mother’s complaint about her so called baby back ribs that weren’t. I really don’t think we are going back, unless there is a craving for fried pickles.
