Wife and I were bemoaning the loss of yet another Caribbean restaurant in Killeen, Partins has shut down. Luckily, we were driving down Rancier and spotted a new Caribbean restaurant on the NE corner of College and Rancier called Negril. This is a new place, a little immature, but with great promise. The have a fantastic lunch special for $ 4.99 that includes jerk chicken, curry chicken and stew chicken. Wife had the curry chicken and it was tangy and tasty. The accompanying fried plantains and red beans and rice were quite good. I had the oxtails. They were cooked to perfection, cooked until the meat ALMOST fell off the bones. The star of the meal for me was the cooked cabbage. It was a feast for he eyes and the tongue. The chef cooks the cabbage to a point were it is creamy good, but still has a SNAP in it. She adds in red, green orange and yellow bell pepper slices and the colors are as eye pleasing as the ensemble is mouth pleasing. The mild seasoning makes the cabbage taste quite palatable. Dinner for two can run from $ 13 to $ 26. Lunch from $ 10.00. They have large and small portions for many items. No alcohol but they have homemade nonalcoholic ginger beer, Irish mash, peanut punch and carrot juice. Wife and I each had a cold Sprite served in real glasses with ice. For you vegetarians and vegans, their vegetables were excellent and I was assured that the veggies are not cooked anywhere near the meat, different pans and utensils are used and different fryers are used. Very close to Fort Hood, and not too busy yet, this is a great place for lunch. Dinners will be great as well. On some Saturdays they have a Haitian food buffet that I will go back to try soon. All in all, a very satisfying lunch. Wife got a side of 3 plantains for $ 1.00 and I got a side of the cabbage to take home to have with our dinner tonight!, YES it was that good! 4 stars only because they have a little ways to go yet, and I would like to be able to have a beer with my dinner, but a place we will return to and enjoy. Wife enjoys«getting my goat» but next time I will order their curried goat and I know it will be fantastic!
