Got a lunch tip from our stand up paddle instructor at Maui Wave Riders nearby. Local spot with a friendly owner serving some standard plates lunches. Your choice of main + 2 scoops rice/potatoes and mac/green salad. Green salad is nice to see on the islands once in a while. I got the shoyu chicken and my wife got the pork adobo. Shoyu chicken, while not complicated, was spot on. Mostly thigh meat(some drumsticks) and braised so tender. A little salty and a little sweet. It hit the spot after surf school. My wife’s adobo was good, a little more vinegar-y than we’re used to as Filipinos but the meat was tender and it was still tasty. We would definitely come back here for a quick, cheap, and friendly lunch joint. Many locals do!

Definitely good value in the local comfort food department. Typical stuff is stew/curry/roast pork — think of most of the dishes as the Maui equivalent of meat loaf. But really good. I had pork lau lau, which is like pork wrapped in a banana leaf/cabbage and it was really yummy, way more than I would have expected from this place’s décor. Not particularly fancy, but a welcome break from the tourist pub food that is available in this area. Good place to carb up before catching some waves on the beach, it’s really quick to eat there. And they are also really nice.

I am giving this place 3 stars because the staff was very friendly at least! We came at the end of lunch, so they were very low on food. We got the Shoyu chicken with rice and mac salad. Even without the gravy, the rice was overcooked and mushy. The mac salad was tasteless. The food was uncovered and had flies hanging out over it.(Note: the whole setting semi-killed my appetite, but we were so hungry we decided to just go for it.) My hubby and I are big on our fresh poke and local plate lunches, and this place easily goes at the bottom of our list of places to go for such food. In hindsight, I wish we had gone to Foodland instead.

Delicious local style plate lunches for a reasonable price(less than $ 10). Staff is super friendly also, which is a bonus. Available dishes rotates. Personal favorite is the Thai chicken curry on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Best shoyu chicken — super nice folks — you feel like you’re family whenever you go in. Loved the homely feel — and a great price for plate lunch.

My fiancé and I went here on a Tuesday afternoon. The place we wanted to eat at was closed so we used Unilocal to find another place to eat that was close by and found this place. All their food was out except the shoyu chicken, but that’s what I was going to order anyway. It was very yummy! Tasted just like the one my mom made while I was growing up. I didn’t care for the mac salad it came with, but the fiancé ate it. I probably should’ve just ordered the chicken and rice option the guy had offered. The store is also a collectible/thrift shop and that was pretty interesting. It gave me something to browse through when I was done eating and waiting for the fiancé to finish up.

This is home cooking! Straight up, nothing fancy, just tasty food cooked from scratch for a great price. Try the chicken pumpkin curry over rice, it’s to die for. I also got a super yummy salad topped with loads of beautiful avocado, mangos, and a homemade lilikoi vinaigrette. When they have fish it is super fresh. Their hibiscus lilikoi tea is a fave. And the staff couldn’t be friendlier. Mostly a breakfast and lunch joint, but on friday nights they stay open for dinner and then host a ukulele jam session, so if you’re a player, it’s good fun.

We came here after our surfing lesson. One of the guys at the surf place was munching and said this is where he got it. So we walked on over! It’s dive. About as un-fancy as you can get. The two people there are undoubtedly the owners. They have three or four tables. The selection is very limited. And it is this limited selection that prevents me from giving five stars. Because what they did have was really good, and it was not particularly expensive. Shoyu chicken, a curry chicken, and a couple of other things I don’t remember. That’s their menu. We had both the shoyu and the curry, and they were both very good. Get the lunch plate, it’s a better deal. I would have gotten ice cream(which apparently is home-made on the island) but they didn’t have the flavor I wanted. Oh well… maybe next time. I’t’s not really well marked, but just walk under the covered sidewalk until you’re almost in the corner and there it is.

Delicious food. Great value. And the people are sooo nice. They gave us a bunch of other food recommendations, including favorite happy hour spots and that it was even restaurant week!

The best way to describe this place is that you’re getting a huge plate of what feels like a homemade meal for an incredibly reasonable price. The shoyu chicken is amazing and the people who work there make you feel like family. We found this place by accident while in Maui 4 years ago, and we went back again that trip and then made it a point to find it again during this trip. I’m sure we will be back at least one more time before we leave in a few days!

The curry chicken was delicious. A little spicy but great flavor. Looks like a spot for locals, so glad we tried it.

We hit this place late one evening last week. The entrée selections were reduced to shoyu chicken, roast pork and something else that escapes my memory. We had the chicken and pork which were very good. Nothing fancy — just good local fare.

This place is a hidden gem! I recommend everyone coming and trying this place, you won’t be disappointed. The staff there are super friendly, too. The roast pork plate, & turkey plate are my 2 faves. Wish I knew about this a long time ago.

Amazing value and great local food. Friday is mochiko chicken day, so super ono! Friendly service, comfortable atmosphere, good food, and a vintage dish store full of treasures like Fiestaware and California Pottery. This place feels like home away from home. Also prime rib, hula, and ukulele jam on Friday night.

We went here on the second day of our two week vacation in Hawaii at the insistence of our florist/wedding coordinator. She said it was the best plate lunch in KiHei. She did not let us down! It was a little hard to find, because it is in the far bottom corner of a small strip mall. It’s a small place, and it seemed like a locals place, because the owner knew everyone by name when they walked in. He makes different entrees everyday, and of course you get a scoop of green salad and macaroni salad. We got a curry chicken and a hamburger steak plate lunch. It was delicious! Overall, perfect place to stop for a plate lunch before headed out on an adventure in Maui!
