We found Nalu’s through Unilocal. My family of six loved this place. The food is incredible, the servers are super helpful and the overall experience was awesome. Ask a server about George! Don’t miss an opportunity to eat here. And I’m from Portland… so I felt right at home with a beer from Portland.

This place was amazing! The infused water bar is super cute and I was so happy that it was offered free with my meal! I had the ribs and it was delicious. I loved all the sides I was served with it. The live entertainment was super fun and very personal. The service was exceptional! And the best part of the whole meal was my delicious drink from the fantastic bar! Great food, great prices and wonderful local flavor. Will try and stop by again before I leave!

The spirit of «Aloha» is here. You must go here on vacation. We ordered the Cubano and the chicken wrap and was blown away by the portions and how delicious they were. Served on what looks like a cutting board, we got home made chips, my husbands came with salad and mine with slaw. So good and the price was excellent for what we got. The owner I believe even treated us to one of their I think breakfast items. Donut holes with whipped cream and pineapple. Amazing. She was kind and wonderful to talk to. We walked away happy and full! Go here!

Nice, clean, open air place. Very helpful and friendly person who took our order; gave recommendations, awesome attitude. Had the ribs w/respect. The«w/respect» must mean with extra salt. Very good flavor but way too salty. Surprised by the good sized portion. Mac salad was not heavy. Added extra; best pickled ginger ever atop the rice, pickled in house for sure. Would probably get a burger next time, they looked amazing. Infused water station was novel. Hope you like fowl, birds everywhere. Small chickens? Running about your feet looking for scraps. One legged dove named«George» might have been the saddest thing I’ve ever seen.

Top notch breakfast and house-made Portuguese sausage. Went for breakfast two times and both were amazing. A really casual, laid back atmosphere allowing you to sit back and enjoy your breakfast. The service was quick, didn’t have any issues. The water/coffee self-serve was great. They had some creative infused water combos, super refreshing. The coffee was much better than other local places, wasn’t watered down as most were. Some of the best french toast I’ve ever had. My favorite part was the HOUSE-MADE Portuguese sausage. It was juicy, tender with a great consistency and the perfect amount of spiciness. The owner also provides Portuguese sausage to other local restaurants, because it’s that good. Hands down one of the best Portuguese sausage I’ve ever had. Make sure to get some if you’re a fan!

Went for lunch today. We have been having so many local friends telling us how good the food was. This was our first visit. We strolled in and sat at the bar. The place was busy with a mixed crowd of visitors & locals. The bar was an excellent place to view the several TV sets for sports & surfing movies. Started with Great choice of local & mainland drafts and Chardonnay for my wife from a nice vino selection. We ordered the famed apple, Brie, bacon burger on a tasty brioche bun. This was served with a nice little side salad and Chef Preston Hope’s Maui potato chips. I had my burger in the vegetarian style made out of quinoa. My wife had the chefs recommendation of the crab cake salad with fresh mangos and tons of organic veggies. No shortage of crab cakes. FOUR! All was excellent. For this quality prices were very reasonable. We will come back often. Nothing really like this place on Maui. Great setting out of the busy tourist areas, fair prices, organic and locally sourced food. All served with a generous ALOHA!

As many have described, it’s a counter order situation. Don’t expect anything more than that from your experience, and you’ll be good. We had an acai bowl and a cubano sandwich. Bowl was big and icy, seemed to be missing bananas, both on top and in the acai mix. But plenty of other fruits generously laid on top — blackberries raspberries strawberries pineapple. Cubano served up with a slightly spicy slaw, housemade chips and just right-sized sandwich on a soft roll(closer to hot dog roll than crusty bread). Tasty tender pork, nice crunchy pickle, cheese, good satisfying sandwich, not overwhelming. One special feature, the self service fruit infused waters, don’t miss them. They look and taste so festive and refreshing. We sat on the outside patio, super breezy and cool on a hot afternoon. Servers came by often to check in, including with an extra bottle of(plain) still water.

This is a really relaxing nice place to get lunch/brunch. The area is open seating, clean and has great open light space. Service: order at the counter, take a number and they bring it to you. Food came out quick Food — Ahi Eggs Benedict: super yummy. The ahi was cooked to perfection and side of rosemary roasted potatoes were covered in furikake. To garnish was a small slice of pineapple which completed the dish well. Savory but light at the same time — Regular Loco Moco: chose this over the other 2 loco moco options on the menu because it was the only non-vegeterian moco. It was classic Hawaiian and the gravy wasn’t too overpowering. Delicious We didn’t get drinks but chose to stay hydrated with their assortment of fruit infused water which was free! Parking: ample in large complex Overall we thought meal was great value, delicious and great ambiance. There was a chicken and it’s chick meandering through the restaurant w/o a care in the world. There was also area where it looks to be able to host live music as well. Cool vibes. Highly recommend!

Best value in Maui! Really chill vibe from this place. It seemed much more laid back and less touristy than other restaurants we went to. I had the Ahi Club Sandwich which was pretty good. Couldn’t really taste the Ahi because of the bacon in it. Their homemade chips were delicious. Tried the crab cake sandwich, Apple brie burger, and loco moco which were all really good! Second time coming back I got the short ribs which is basically Korean BBQ!!! Loved it! As good as bay area ribs. It comes with kimchi and rice. Enough food for two people! Highly recommended for a cheaper dinner with good food and good vibes. Definitely would come back here! Mostly self serve but the service was amazing. Very helpful and friendly.

Great place to hang out for drinks and appetizers but better food can be found elsewhere. Nice open atmosphere with a live band. Got the BBQ ribs which were outstanding. The sides were boring though. Tropical drinks were interesting. Very friendly service and they take the time to explain everything. The infused waters were delicious, I had to try all 3 kinds and they were all good.

This place is very good! I ordered the Nalu salad and added seared tuna. I also tried some of my frjend’s side chips and they add truffle salt on it. You order up front, find your own seat, and then they serve your food once you’re seated. There’s a bar on the side and also live music(ukulele). I thoroughly enjoyed my time here, it was casual but the food is gourmet. Service is excellent. I also liked how there’s three different types of infused water!

We had our first breakfast in Maui here– arriving a little on the early side as we had been up for ages coming from the East Coast– they open up at 8am and there we were, ready for business! The restaurant is located within a shopping center but certainly does not feel like it– it has a cool breezy open air concept with tables inside and out– we sat outside. Order when you come in, then find your seat and they will bring you your meal– they have a sweet selection of hot sauces and condiments for your choosing as well as fruit infused water to sip on if there’s a line — we had strawberry pineapple yummmmm… As far as food goes I got the kine breakfast with turkey sausage which was SO delish — eggs perfect, whole wheat or multigrain toast toasted just right… coffee was strong and tasty. Hubs got the Loco Moco– his first experience of many on our trip to Maui and Kauai and LOVED it– thus the need to try many many more. Service was excellent with refills of coffee and water constant– make sure to tip appropriately when you pay for you food because the service is awesome.

I absolutely love and recommend this place to everyone. The menu provides a variety of choices for every foodie. My favorites are 1) Balck N Blue Ahi Benedict $ 152) Cornflake crusted French toast $ 113) Fried Chicken Waffle $ 14 Order at the register and grab any open seat you see. They have infused water to help yourself. I promise you will love this place.

Nice, but not impressive. Do-it-yourself ordering system detracts from the atmosphere. Good live music.

I travelled all the way to Hawaii to try #WhistlePig 10 Year, and it was worth it! Five stars for the bartender who had the patience of a saint and knew a thing or two about whiskey as well! A group of about 10 guys out for a bit of bachelor debauchery descended upon the bar, and she handled us all with grace and ease. No one knew who was paying, what they wanted, or even looked at the menu, yet she kept her cool, answered all questions and checked back appropriately to offer time to make decisions! God bless her! She was even cool enough to keep track of how much everyone was drinking, making sure we were being responsible too ;) The bar selection here is really solid, with a strong whiskey lineup, local taps? And premium spirits at really fair prices. That said, I tried the Mai tai and didn’t like it. Tasted way too sweet and like it wasn’t made with craft ingredients. Perfect for a long day on the beach, but not what I wanted with dinner. I dig the open air vibe here. Very beachy, and transports you well away from the strip mall location you’ll find it in! This place has a casual counter service style, and they bring the food to you at your table. Food wise, they serve a slightly upscale menu that’s moderately priced for Maui, and highlights fresh ingredients too. I shared the apple Brie burger, a side of volcano fries and the Pake’s Chicken Salad with a friend. Though the portions are value oriented, I thought the items we ordered were better than good, but not exceptionally great, and not incredibly original or imaginative either. The burger was tasty, and large, and I loved the if act it was served with a side of house chips and a salad. I found some grit in the grind that was a bit off putting. The salad tasted like a typical asian inspired chicken salad, a bit too sweet for me, and I didn’t feel like it delivered on the description. I think I would’ve been better ordering the Island Ribs with Respect, daily special or house poke bowl. Nalu’s is a great choice for the individual traveling in a group of mixed palates and opinions. If you’re a foodie, I think you can skip this one, but if you’re looking for a spot that can satisfy everyone or offer a break from Hawaiian classics in favor of mainland flavors, this is a great pick!

When we first walked into Nalu’s South Shore Grill, my family and I were immediately impressed with the design. The wide open space gave off a beach-bungalow-like theme with its high wooden beams, surfboard paraphernalia, and pots of vibrant plants throughout. Super cool looking place! The menu at Nalu’s is quite extensive, offering various acai bowls, sandwiches, salads, and even breakfast plates. It took me a great long while to choose one item and even then, I went with the recommendation of the cashier: black ‘n blue ahi Benedict. Everything is mostly self-serve, like getting glasses of fruit-steeped water at the counter, but the servers walking around were really helpful and friendly as we patiently waited for our food. When my dish first hit the table, I was stunned into silence at how big it was! Two English muffins topped with a seared fillet of ahi tuna and a soft poached egg with a pale yellow hollandaise sauce made my stomach rumble in anticipation. Absolutely mouthwatering! The egg was poached perfectly and with just the tiniest bit of pressure, the egg yolk broke like a mountain of gold over the fish and bread. The hollandaise sauce was surprisingly very light and not overpowering in the slightest. Even the English muffin had a nice crispy bite. I was so in love with my dish that I barely offered my family a couple bites. It was just too good to share! The prices at Nalu’s are incredibly reasonable, especially when you consider the portion size and awesome flavor profile. What an awesome place to hang out and eat!

So, we went here again… This time for dinner. I had the CBLT(crab cake BLT) on toasted sourdough with a side salad and fresh potato chips. Damn this sucker was amazing! Slight downside, this place has turned into a HUGE tourist central… we were pretty much the only locals in the place… Not a bad thing, until they all surround your table and start dancing to A-L-O-H-A… too much sunscreen and sunburn for me, i would’ve went to a hotel luau if i wanted that. The live music was good, but it was SOOOO loud we couldn’t hold a conversation amongst ourselves because we couldn’t hear each other. Thank goodness the food was good or i probably wouldn’t be going back.

Ever since I first had magical«Hawaiian short ribs»(which are 99% Korean, right?) from a Hawaiian chain in California, I’ve wanted to have such a dish in THEACTUALHAWAI’I. So I was a bit surprised when my searches for«hawaiian short ribs» and«short ribs» turned up few results on Maui. Fortunately, one of those results was for Nalu’s(which was close by our hotel) for their famous«island ribs with respect.» Maybe I’m a cretin for not knowing what the heck they are referring to on «respect» but I will tell you I respected the awesomeness of these ribs! They were like a more luxurious version of what I’m used to out here in Cali: about twice as thick as typical short ribs, and mercifully segmented into smaller pieces to reduce the amount of customer knifing required. With that wonderful savory, slightly sweet sauce. They also had some decent crab cakes, a smooth and surprisingly balanced peanut butter stout from Belching Beaver Brewery(no, none of that was a typo), and the icing on the cake: live music, one piece of which was accompanied by Hawaiian dancing. Service was excellent and friendly, if the location a bit odd… it had a cool high ceiling and resort-looking seating… yet was located in a strip mall you might find anywhere in middle America. Anyway, I’d definitely come back here for the beer and ribs.

Meh. Not sure why this place is rated so highly, my fiancé and I were not impressed at all. We ordered the straight up burger and the Cubano, both came with crispy potato chips. Both were mediocre at best. The burger was way over-cooked and the Cubano was fine, lukewarm and nothing extraordinary. Service was friendly, but some of the tables and chairs were awkward and uncomfortable, where you couldn’t even put your legs under. When we return to Maui, we’re going to skip this place.
