There are few times in my life that I have taken time out to write an online review. This time I feel it necessary. I hired Chris Vogt of Vogt Spears on recommendation from another contractor I was currently doing business with when some water danger was uncovered. The damage turned out to be extensive resulting in quite a bit of demolition and reconstructing two bathrooms. The project involved demo, electrical, plumbing, drywall, floor tile, new cabinets, paint etc. As one would guess, there were a handful of subcontractors on site over the course of 5+ months. The work was done to my satisfaction and I paid each draw to Vogt Spears immediately after being presented an invoice and not once did I question the amounts. One year after completion, I hired a plumber that I had used on many occasions over the years. This plumber was used as a sub for my project — hired by Vogt Spears. The owner of the plumbing company told me he had not been paid by Vogt Spears. I immediately contacted the office of Vogt Spears and it was communicated to me that they would look into it and perhaps there was a paperwork error. Soon after, the plumber told me Vogt Spears agreed to a payment schedule and began monthly payments to him. A year later(July 2014), I hire the same plumber for a frustrating leaky toilet flapper and was flabbergasted to find out Vogt Spears did not follow through on his commitment to pay his subcontractor. He had only paid a small portion of the money due. I again contacted the owner of Vogt Spears and was told that the issue did not have anything to do with me. I beg to differ. I do not intend to allow a contractor to place a mechanic’s lien on my property. I paid the plumber 3 days after learning he was out his due money for services rendered. I would NEVER recommend Chris Vogt and Vogt Spears. The owner is not a man of his word — that is, he told me the plumber would get paid. The plumbing subcontractor is very good at his work and very reliable. I have used him for almost 10 years. He deserved better treatment from a general contractor. Lastly, to add hurt to injury, there was personal property stolen from my home during this extensive project. It was brought to Vogt Spears’ attention, and he appeared sorry that something like that could happen under his watch. But I had little recourse as there were many subcontractors in/out of my home over the course of the project with another contractor hired by my insurance company vs me/Vogt Spears — so it was a challenge find someone to take responsibility. Again, bottom line… Vogt Spears does not pay his subcontractors.
