Tiki bar is relaxing and fun! With live music and good food. Lots of shade and the breeze felt great on a hot day. If you like eating and relaxing by the water this is a great place to go.

Don’t waste your money staying at the hotel! It’s newly renovated but smells moldy. It’s nice to have a little refrigerator and microwave but, there’s no coffee maker or hair dryer. I make a living in the travel industry and I couldn’t tell you how long it’s been since I’ve stayed anywhere that didn’t have them. Also, there are no counter tops or shelves to put your toiletries on in the bathroom. The tiki bar is nice and the wait staff is friendly. The live music is awesome. We would have really enjoyed the beach but they refused to change the music. They will only play Latin music on the beach. Even though there were 25 of us that had planned to eat, drink and party on the beach, we were told that the pool is for Americans, the beach is for the Latins! I could have sworn that Key Largo is still in America! We do this party every year and keep trying to find a beach that is suitable for our large party, where there are enough hotel rooms near by, and we thought we had found the perfect place, but we were wrong! We’ll just have to look somewhere else for next years party because we sure won’t be going back to Gilbert’s.

Stopped in here with a friend for a couple drinks. Tried one of their signature drinks called a «Young Boobie»…which was pretty good. You’re right there on the water under a thatched roof. They have live music, but I’m not sure which nights. Dirt parking lot and it is a little tricky finding your way into this place. Food on the menu looked good… but I didn’t get anything. My friend tried the tuna salad scoop… she liked it. Great place for a quick drink and bite to eat on your drive to the Keys. Overall, nothing stood out to make this place something special in my book… but I did liked it and wouldn’t mind stopping here again. I cannot comment on the resort part or rooms as I didn’t use them.

I have ben going to Gilbert’s for over 20 years. My wife and I were there on Saturday, May 28th, 2016 via boat. We purchased a little fuel, took care of a little business, got a table and ordered the best fish sandwich ANYWHERE… The Key Largo Fish Sandwich w/sweet potato fries. William and Sashkia took care of us and this was the best experience we have ever had at Gilbert’s. The entire staff was working together. What a GREAT change from a few other visits.

Loved every second here! Beautiful views! Tiki Bars and LOTS of shade! You have the choice of lounging by the pool, sit in the shade at on of the 3 tiki bar areas or set up next to the stage and enjoy the music. The sandy beach area is perfect for swimming & family fun. Plenty of parking and service is excellent! You can spend the WHOLE day here and have a great time. No outside food, drinks, or coolers allowed BUT Ice water is always complementary!

When you talk about Gilbert’s, you’re talking about one, if not the most famous restaurant in Key Largo. When you arrive, you’re almost overwhelmed by the size of the place. There must be easily over 200 tables to choose from. Most of the time, they have live performers. Now onto the food and drinks. Piña Colada is one of their most famous drinks. They serve it with an extra shot by request. Their beer prices are better than average. Their food, on the other hand, is just ok. We’ve had some of their sandwiches, salads, wings and conch fritters. The food isn’t awful, it’s just average. The view and sunsets are amazing. Get there early because it gets packed! It’ll be well worth it!

Come for the tiki bar but pass on the motel. After visiting the tiki severals times and enjoying the ambiance and friendly staff I decided to celebrate my birthday here. Many people came out to spend the day with me, 2 families rented aside from the rooms I rented. We spent a good amount of money at the tiki bar and restaurant and on rooms so it was very disappointing that after a night of NOAC(or sleep) in our room, we were met with shoulder shrugging. After making our issue known to a top Manager Tracy she spoke with the owner John and came back to us with an offer for a $ 50 gift card. Are you kidding me? $ 200 to be trapped in a hot room sweating, far from home, I had to send my kids to sleep in another guests room so they wouldnt be uncomfortable. There is no office staff at night so our only help, a security guard who basically came in and randomly hit the thermostat buttons, did not offer to switch rooms or a portable AC unit. We spent the whole night on top of the sheets sticking to them. Disgusting experience, horrible customer service. To save themselves the difference they have just lost several customers for life. Successful business owners know the value in doing right by customers that will return many times again and whose children would follow suit. Gilberts will NOT be a tradition for our household.

We stayed there for 1 night in April 2016. We’ve known Gilbert’s Resort from 2008 and 2009. We had loved it at that time and we still knew the older owners Karina & Reinhard. At that time all employees were like a huge family and their happiness made the whole atmosphere that everyone loved. Now, there is a new owner who was very arrogant to us. We asked him whether there are still old employees there that we had met the years before and he just said«I brought my own people». His own people were mostly very unfriendly and we were shocked at times about their rudeness, no matter whether it was at check-in, in the restaurant or at the bar. The new owner renovated the rooms, but they are not worth the price. At times the prices can be horrific, we thought they were completely overpriced and we will never stay there again. The boat ramp is closed, the indoor restaurant is closed, the bar on the other side of the channel is closed although the old owners had renovated it in 2009 and it was a wonderful place. So everything is going down and I cannot imagine that the old long-term clients still come back. All was changed but not at all for the better. Very disappointing overall.

This place is fun. Make sure to get here early because parking is very limited and you will end up parking 3 miles away from the place. Delicious key lime pie. Great drinks and speedy bartenders. There’s pattleboarding, music, drinks, food and more. my favorite part the the little family beach they have so the kids can play in the water while the parents have a couple of drinks.

Our bartender was fannnnnnnntastic !!! Unfortunately we can’t remember her name. Black hair with buzzed lives on the side. Super awesome bartender! I ordered a coconut mojito which was delicious and my boyfriend had the mai tai and a tiki punch. We ordered tiki club and stuffed fish everything was great! They play music, live bland, colorful chairs, pull up a chair right next to the ocean view or sit on a rock and have your feet dangle in the keys ocean! Hour and half drive from home and worth it !!!

What I like the most about Gilbert’s is it’s close proximity to mainland South Florida. Either by car or by boat, it doesn’t take long to get a taste(and sip) of the Keys. This venerable bastion has been in the same location for at least the 40 years I’ve been in Miami. At one time it was called The Unwinder. My cougar drama professor from Miami– Dade took me here to watch her in the wet t-shirt contest! Nowadays it’s more tourist oriented. There are several bars and plenty of tables under a ginormous tiki hut offering plenty of shade. They have a nice assortment of those frozen tropical drinks that sneak up and KICK your ass. On my last visit I came via boat. Docking wasn’t a problem. The lunch of mahi and grouper sandwiches along with the service was good but not great. Be advised it can get very crowded on weekends with the obnoxious Miami crowd. I prefer weekday happy hours; plenty of seating and quick service. There was a guy with a rhythm machine and a Fender Stratocaster doing a good job of entertaining. There is lodging on site and it looks like they’ve spruced up the rooms recently. Still I don’t think I’d stay here unless I was so trashed on Rumrunners that I wouldn’t want to deal with US1 or the Florida Highway Patrol! For me, I’d recommend Gilbert’s as a good place to start off a trip into the Keys with some refreshments and relaxation

What in the world do people see in this place?! I know the keys are super chill and laid back BUT this place seriously needs to work on everything– from service, cleanliness, to drinks and food! We ordered a Bloody Mary(which had a «Staff Favorite» stamp next to it & a Tiki Mojito! The drinks were $ 9 each & I think we just paid for plastic cups filled half-way with ice! There was literally no flavor in the Bloody Mary(I had to ask for Tabasco sauce to add some flavor to it!) & the Mojito was made with some cheap cremé de menthe(cream of mint artificial flavoring) –no limes here guys! As for the food… we ordered a dozen raw oysters($ 21.99) & please just look at the pics in the review to judge for yourself before even considering coming here(or ordering drinks & food!) Do yourself a favor & keep driving a little further into the keys for better anythi g & everything!

Watch your credit/bank card statements. Apparently this place authorizes 2 charges for your meal. Our tab was 64 bucks and I have an additional 129 charge pending in my bank account. I understand the need to confirm funds but to confirm double the amount of the bill is absurd. Also, the conch fritters werent great either. Everything else was fine.

We drove from Ft. Lauderdale to Key West and back. Our first stop down was Gilbert’s, and our last stop on the way back was Gilbert’s. While the service isn’t absolutely amazing, the views and the drinks are good. I would stop here every time simply for the locale. It’s right on a large bay, and has amazing sunsets. We ordered a large peel & eat shrimp platter, and it was delicious. Our drinks were served promptly, and everything tasted great. I would stop here every time I drove through the keys.

Vegan burger tastes like a Burger King veggie burger(not good) and the Malibu Boobie that was listed on the menu like a typical mix drink and read«Add a floater for $ 3» was actually a forced floater for $ 12 total– a trick. It tasted like a terrible strawberry smoothie or cold strawberry syrup. I know people who like it but to me it felt like the biggest tourist trap Ive ever eaten at. Overpriced, not very good options, food mediocre at best, and the drink I had was sneakily way overpriced and tasted horrible. Customer service did not in any way redeem this. No one in my group will be back.

This review is on the Tiki Bar/Restaurant: A friend invited us down to Gilbert’s for dinner and to watch a local band that was playing. Well, of course it was a resounding YES! I love any excuse to do something, especially if it involves live music and food, so off we drove to Key Largo. Although I had been here before, it hadn’t been for dinner. We arrived and were pleasantly surprised at how good the band, The Flyers, sounded. Classic rock with a total of three band members that were completely amazing. The guitarist was so talented that he played his guitar as a lefty, righty, behind his back and his tongue(yes, I actually witnessed that). The bar and restaurant area is under a ginormous chickee hut. The bar is huge and there are plenty of tables to choose from. Starving, we happily and quickly ordered our meal. I decided on the Blackened Dolphin(Mahi-mahi) sandwich. The meal arrived fairly quick. It was fresh and properly cooked, which is what you expect in the Keys. When I say fresh, I mean it. I am extremely picky and can note fish that isn’t fresh in a heartbeat. This one was perfect! Loved that the sandwich is made with whole wheat bread too. Side of fries included but you can upgrade to onion rings or sweet potato fries. Overall, service was pretty good, band was fabulous along with very good food. I’ll definitely return!

I don’t go to the Keys for nightlife so the reviews about cougars and bikers don’t apply to me. I choose to experience an oasis like Gilbert’s on a beautiful weekday afternoon and have the bar under Florida’s largest tiki roof all to myself. There were a few $ 5 drink specials which I took advantage of right away. I started with the smoked fish dip. It was a nice portion and very tasty. The fish kabobs were AMAZING! The kabobs were fresh caught Mahi which were seasoned and cooked to perfection. They came with sweet potato fries which I could not stop eating until they were gone. My friend ordered the Cajun fish sandwich and afterwards apologized for not offering me to try it because it was so delicious he refused to share. We happened to see some dolphins and were coincidentally there for a gorgeous sunset. All in all it turned into a very bromantic evening.

Aww the beautiful Florida Keys. pure ocean beauty. Well it’s a beautiful Saturday and hubby and I decided to hit up Key Largo and head to Gilbert’s. We’ve arrived and so far I’ve seen three dolphins. Love the ocean. We are Keys regulars although usually for fishing or hanging out at the tiki bar(when it was fun). Been coming here since new owners screwed up the tiki bar though. Let me start off by saying Gilbert’s is not fancy. You don’t have to dress up and leave your attitudes at home. You come here to relax, drink, paddleboard, eat, jet ski, swim, or just be at peace with the beautiful 360 view. We love coming here to eat, drink, enjoy the water, and just chill so if your looking for more keep driving. Lunch here was good. Fish sandwich and fries and a blackened chicken sandwich. For drinks I was in the mood for piña colada’s and hubby had beer. We had the perfect lazy Saturday and even found a perfect spot looking out into the ocean… even took a little nap. The only negative I guess is there’s not enough beach area but the parking is easy, the locals are nice and the drinks nice and cold. So come kick your feet up… listen to the old school rock band, have a good lunch and order that next drink with an extra shot

Waren 2 Nächte hier und es war wirklich gut, die Zimmer waren völlig in Ordnung und die Bar großartig :-) Frühstück wär nicht inklusive aber preislich auch völlig ok. Wir kommen gerne wieder… :-) Great Place! Best Tiki Bar!!! Super live Musik und super Drinks!
