I mean really, how can you NOT stop at this awesome little general store that is packed to the gills with everything you could possibly need or want while either camping along the river or just passing through Kernville? Super friendly folks, charming little café and coffee counter with simple and fresh, made-to-order tasty sandwiches, and all the gear, fishing tackle, and gadgets you need to have fun while at the river. Found a treasure in the grocery aisle when I spied the old fashioned«shake and pop» Jiffy Pop Popcorn. The kids were delighted and in awe that evening when watching how the popcorn popped in its own expanding foil bubble after shaking it on the stove top(seriously, what childhood is complete without this experience?). Highly recommend supporting this great store!

I have been coming up to Kern River for the past 6 years and all I could say is that this store/deli has everything you need for your camping needs and hunger cravings! The tri-tip is to die for and so are their burgers! Everything is cooked to order with fresh ingredients and to perfection. If you are not craving something hot, they make great sandwiches. The Suicide Sandwich is one you need to try. I guarantee that you’ll have some left over or share! The people who work here are knowledgeable about the area and always have a warm smile. Ed and Jewlz are the owners and they get to know everyone who comes into their store. Butch know everything about everything about the Kern and is full of great stories! So if you happen to be making your way up to Kern River, make sure you stop in. You can’t miss it! Tell them Chis sent you. They will know exactly what you mean!

This is a MUST whenever we go to Kernville. The hotel we stay at is right across the street so it’s super convenient. I can’t say enough good things about this place and their food and how delicious it is. You have to order the tri-tip sandwich. It is absolutely the best. The meat is tender, juicy, and the sauce is simply delicious. Their chili beans are tasty served alone or served over French fries. For breakfast, you can’t go wrong with any of their breakfast burritos though they have other offerings as well like biscuits and gravy(YUM). I was just there over the weekend and I can’t wait to eat there when I’m back in a few weeks. Customer service is great. They still try their best to be attentive and fast even when they’re busy. There’s a bar with stools to eat inside as well as 2 tables. Or you can sit out on their patio. I highly recommend this place. Don’t be fooled by the restaurant next-door called Cheyenne’s. If you want GREATBBQ and friendly, attentive service; this is definitely the place.

I came here earlier this morning for breakfast but forgot to check in and review. So here we go. It’s a small little store with everything you need the staff are extremely friendly I had ham and eggs with wheat toast and potatoes its was good and it hit the hit. Placed to sit and eat are limited so get here early and beat the crowd. It’s worth it. They got a deli too plus Ice cream. This place is like two min away from my cabin so it’s perfect. It’s a small hidden gem but it’s awesome with a great vibe and decoration that you can actually purchase. Make at a place to to hit when your in town.

Love this little joint! It has everything you need when your camping on the Kern and at a reasonable price(contrary to some Hollywood Hipsters review). The reason I stop there is for the fantastic burgers and shakes! My wife always gets the pastrami burger with onion rings and enjoy the BBQ beef sandwich. Everything there is made to order and delicious. For you hungry bikers, campers, hikers, and such I recommend the Rafter burger(it’s not on the menu) to fill yer guts with tasty goodness. Don’t forget a hand made shake(with Peanut butter) if you know what’s good for ya. It’s a little joint with all ya need and great food to boot.

Love this little gem! When you drive past you’re expecting a store with camping supplies. BUT, this store has some of the best burgers in Kern(yes I’ve been to McNally’s). The onion rings are amazing and the malts, ohhh man. I’ve also had their breakfast which is good, but if you come to eat here, grab a cheeseburger. You will not be disappointed!

Food was really good… tasted like it came off my grill at home… price are Hugh but it is to be expected… the first time I went I had a great experience however when we came back later that day the owner(a bald guy) was very rude and had an unnecessary conflict with a customer… we hurried to eat and get the heck out… also my husband asked him about local fishing and he said sorry I’m busy… maybe he was having a bad day… never the less not great customer service. the girl and the register… however was extremely sweet and great with customers

Drove all the way up yo McNally’s for a burger from the stand to be sadly disappointed that they weren’t open. On our way back down we stopped here and were super stoked with what we got. For $ 25 we got two double cheeseburgers, fries, to cokes, and vanilla malt. All yummy and friendly staff. Next time we aren’t chancing McNally’s being closed, we are stopping here instead.

This little store is very nice. They sell lots of stuff in the store, there is a deli next to it that sells cheese, meat and food. They have killer French toast, bacon, and eggs. It is very close to most hotels in the area. Almost everyday they smoke tri tip. If you want good food and fresh groceries, come here.

This is the main spot to go for supplies when enjoying the Kern River. The owners are very nice. I’ve been coming to this place for over 15 years, they have a great Tri-tip sandwich and breakfast burrito. I usually get some fishing supplies and snacks here. Don’t listen to Bonnie n who left an unfair review. They aren’t more expensive than James market and they carry what you need. Plus, up there they have to drive in their own inventory so that makes it a little more expensive than if you were in Bakersfield. Bonnie is just cheap and unreasonable. Thanks Riverkern General Store!

We loved this place! We stayed across the way at the Sequoia Lodge and this was a great convenient place to get left behind stuff. The staff was helpful and friendly. We had their breakfast one morning and was good and good price. Tri tip sandwich was great too. Keep up the good work, hope to see y’all in a few months. :)

This market was right across the street from our hotel. We usually go to the Sierra market which is closer to town when we come to Kernville but this place is great. Its small but it has all the supplies you might need. Not as big as a selection as the other place but great none the less. The owner is super friendly and so is everyone who works here. I got the river run raft(the white one with the cupholders) for $ 21 when its $ 25 at the bigger store. They also have a high pressure hose to fill up your raft. THANKGOODNESS for that. My lungs thank you riverkern. They also have BBQ on a grill outside and lots of food. We had the chicken tenders and fries and it was all yummy. Come here for any supplies, snacks, and rafts! Oh and their river rat cup is the best. I used it my entire trip.

Although Riverkern General Store is really small, it has all the camping essentials. It’s a great place to stop for supplies if you don’t want to drive the extra mile to the much bigger James Market( ). Yes, I’m that lazy. I got my River Run here for just $ 21! My friend bought hers the same day at James Market for $ 25. FYI you don’t get reception here, nor is there a public phone. You have to drive another ½ mile to reach the reception area. They accept credit cards for minimum purchases of $ 10.

Camping/fishing on the Kern is a blast! However, if you forgot to pick up some marshmallows or hamburger buns DONOTSTOPHERE! You will pay ATLEAST double the price! As the tall blonde lady rang up our merch, she smiled as if to say, «I might as well as bend you over too!» We also had 2 of their cold cut sandwiches which were for a lack of a better word– horrifying!

Love this place. The customer service is nice. Very helpful with everything and their prices are right especially since this is a tourist city. They have the cutesy lil fishing & hunting souvineirs. They cover for things you forgot plus the extras. Not to forget their grill has great food!

I had my wedding at a campground near the Riverkern general store. Ed and Jewl, the owners, were really helpful with our myriad of questions and requests. They provided firewood for our event, and catered(amazing) tri-tip and pork loin for one of our parties. We sent many of our guests there for breakfast and miscellaneous supplies and we got great complements on what friendly service they received and how good the food was.
