My family has a cabin in Kenton and this is a favorite of my father-in-law and husband. Besides the food they love Jane the owner. My kids and I go up for a week each summer and we always look forward to a good bar burger or for the kids a cheese pizza. I love to read all the ceiling tiles while I’m there. Pop comes in cans and they do not accept credit cards, but do have an atm. See ya in August Hoppys!

Passed this place a number of times over the years, but always went across the street to wet my whistle. Seeing it won MLive’s «Best Local Bar» award intrigued me, so I stopped in for a beer and a burger. I don’t know how this got put in the category of dive bars. It’s a pretty typical small town UP tavern. It’s clean, decorated with the usual game heads and yooper memorabilia. Ceiling tiles dish up a little history with your beverage by commemorating locals or some of the long-established hunting camps in the area. They had a few UP beers on offer, so I took a bottle of Upper Hand brewing’s U.P.A. Very nice pale ale with more flavor than most, trending toward IPA territory. Burger was fair. Nice sized but overcooked, a little chewy. I got swiss and mushrooms on it; the swiss was processed and the mushrooms came from a can. But they never bragged about artisanal fare. It wasn’t bad, and I’d probably get another burger there… maybe just a plain one though. Would definitely get french fries again – they were excellent. Thin cut, crisp, put me in mind of McDonald’s fries on their really good days. There were about five people there when I came in at about 9:00 on a Friday. They left quickly, leaving me alone with the bartender, before a couple came in a bit later. Didn’t feel out of place though. The bartender was friendly, and I got into an interesting conversation with the couple. Very comfortable hangout, even with a thin crowd. Do be aware Hoppy’s does not take credit cards. Luckily there’s an ATM in the back. Nice to have another dining option in Kenton.

Just got back from a trip to the UP and our inaugural stop at Hoppy’s! Cannot wait to return! A must stop for locals and tourists alike! I’m not a meat-eater, but even the Sloppy Hoppy looked delicious to me — and my husband loved it!

My husband and his dad have a place up in Watton, MI and to say there aren’t many restaurants nearby would be an understatement. To find out that Hoppy’s is only about 15 minutes away was awesome! This looks like it must be a really great place to hang out and grab a drink. The ceiling is covered with tiles that have writing/drawings on them from all of the family’s and groups who have camp’s up near here. It was pretty cool to look at all of them… maybe something to aspire to someday? As for us, we came in for dinner on a Saturday night. Although the menu is small, what we had was good. I got a cheeseburger while my husband got the Sloppy Hoppy. The Sloppy Hoppy was definitely the winner. It was basically a burger covered in grilled onions, bacon and cheese — very tasty! We also ordered some of the«Homemade? Chips». These chips were just as good as when my husband and I make them fresh at home, I would definitely recommend them. Basically, Hoppy’s seems like a great place for a quick bite to eat and a drink. I debated about giving it 4 stars instead of 3 since there are so few places nearby. I would give it a solid 3.5(if there were half stars). I’ll definitely be back for sure!

We just left hoppy’s bar after a successful deer hunting trip. The Sloppy hoppy burgers were very good. My grandpa really liked the frigging chicken too. Jane the owner is probably someone you’ll either love or hate. We loved her because she cracks jokes, and that’s why you go to the bar, to have fun. If you don’t have thick skin and she gives you a hard time, you might not like this place. The prices are fair, and if you stick around or if you’re a repeat customer, you’ll usually get a round on the house. Again, we loved it at hoppy’s. It was a blast, and a good juke box with a lot of old and new songs.

If you are looking for a fun bar right off the snowmobile trail with the best greasy food money can buy, then you’ve found it! The ultimate SLOPPYHOPPY, a juicy burger piled high with mushrooms and grilled onions, topped with gooey cheese… is my reccomended«Must Have» at this bar! The fries are also great but one of the best attributes of this bar is that you could eat and drink here all day on a poor man’s budget. My kind of friendly, yummy and cheap!
