I just saw an ad for this dentist on a website and it jogged a memory from 7 years ago. At the time, my child was 4. I took my child to Dr. Vakili for a routine exam on a recommendation from another parent. Within 15 minutes she was telling me that I needed to pull all 4 of my child’s front teeth because they had some cavities. She gave me this song and dance about how this would ruin her gums and make it so her adult teeth won’t align properly and be healthy. On top of that, they would have to give her a local anesthetic that she would ingest by drinking. To add salt to the wound, we would have to cough up $ 800 out of pocket. I was immediately skeptical and denied the treatment. They tried to hard sell us, but we stood our ground. We finished the exam never to return. Whenever I see small children without any of their front teeth it reminds me of how we were almost convinced that my child’s teeth had to be pulled. I understand that Dr. Vakili has a good reputation in Marin. This is why we went there in the first place. But this doesn’t change the fact that they recommended an unnecessary procedure to me. I have to wonder if this Dr. does this with every patient? I can’t help but think of all the parents who willingly agree and take the doctors recommendations when it comes to pulling teeth. My child is now 11. She had her front teeth for many years and I am so thankful that we didn’t pull them at age 4.

Dr. Vakili saw my son on an emergency basis when he knocked out his front(adult) teeth 4 months ago. She was on call and not our regular dentist. Turns out we were VERY lucky to have her be the on call. She was amazing with my son on both a personal level and in the dentistry work she performed on him. She had a pretty tough job given the bite he took out of the pavement and she worked wonders on his grill. This lady is everything you could wish for in a pediatric dentist and then some!
